Heartbreak for Hire has just become one of my absolute favorite RomComs! With a great premise, sizzling chemistry, A+ snappy banter, moments of absolute hilarity, and a cast of characters who feel both authentic and unique, I was hooked from page one and the second I finished, I was ready to read it all over again! This fantastic RomCom deserves five VERY enthusiastic stars, and if I could give it more, I would!

Had high hopes for this, but it disappointed. Lots of things that I did not like.. Pacing was really weird. This book felt like random chunks of developmental scenes, rather than a gradual build up, especially for Brinkley and Mark’s relationship. Also, at the same time, there was too much but too little going on. There was topics like woman empowerment, toxic relationships, familial issues.... but none of these were given the time they deserve. Since there was so much going on, nothing was really deep dived into (breadth vs depth!). This book just tried to cover too much.

For the last two years, Brinkley Saunders has worked for Heartbreak for Hire (H4H), a secret service for women looking to get revenge on men who have wronged them. Brinkley and three co-workers were all hired by Margo to take down the male Grifters, Players, Cheaters and Egocentric men of Chicago. At first, the job was therapeutic for Brinkley who had found herself at loose ends following the end of an emotionally and psychologically abusive relationship and dropping out of graduate school. When she meets her newest target, Markus Cavanaugh, he doesn't seem like the typical egomaniac Brinkley would enjoy taking down a notch or two. In fact, he seems charming and sweet and before she knows it her usually strong walls are slipping. When the night goes array the best she can hope for is she'll never see Markus again, but...then he turns up as one of the first male employees at H4H and Brinkley is expected to train him. The more she gets to know Markus, the more he seems to break all the stereotypes she expects him to break as a struggling academic adjunct professor (a world Brinkley has sworn to never be apart of thanks to own experiences as a graduate student at Northwestern and growing up with a mother who ran the psychology department). Can the two set aside their rocky start and find some common ground or is heartbreak inevitable for these two heartbreakers?

VERDICT is that this book is such a fast and funny read that you won't find yourself lingering too long over the impossibility of it all. Brinkley comes across a bit brash in the beginning, but as the backstory of her life is filled in she becomes an increasingly sympathetic character and you are really rooting for her in the end. It was hard not to fall for Markus from the very beginning even though you know he is a little too good to be true. The banter and chemistry between the two of them is fantastic and just plain fun. I like that both have complex backstories that are revealed over the course of the book and play directly into how they relate to one another and the career paths they have chosen. I had some literal laugh out loud moments at their antics and felt some true joy when they finally got to their HEA. I will definitely be recommending this book to fellow contemporary romance readers who like a side dish of humor and a fair bit of steam.

I enjoyed this so much! From the sisterhood of revenge work to the cut throat world of academia and all of Brinkley’s wit and sass, it was awesome. Throw in the enemies-to-lovers romance between Mark and Brinkley and you’ve got a winner. I couldn’t put this book down and it constantly had me grinning from ear to ear.

Brinkley is a jaded struggling artist who works for Heartbreak for Hire. After a mishap on the job her life is turned upside down when Mark comes into the picture. Everything from her love life, to her job, to even her past life as an academic comes crashing together and she has to finally decide what she really wants to do with her life.

I loved just about everything about this book! The friendships were really great, especially her close friendship with Emma. The budding romance with Mark was fiery and deep. Their instant connection through Brinkley off her game and I liked that Mark was persistent. I was also really happy to see the mother-daughter relationship on the mend. This book had everything, it was deep and emotional enough to pull at heart strings, had a fiery and steamy romance and fun banter that kept it light. Overall great read! Would definitely read again and would easily recommend!

This is going to be a perfect summer trip book. The chemistry between to two main characters is off the charts. Brinkley is very likeable lady except a bit too insecure from a bad gas lighting relationship she had back in college. She has an overbearing mother who wants nothing more than her to follow her footsteps in the academia world. Which is a bit of a problem since Brinkley dropped out of college before finishing her masters. She works at a private cash only firm of women that specialize in getting even with double crossing men.

Insert the main love interest. He is a target of Brinkley. Who immediately finds herself breaking character and wishing she was really getting to know this handsome stranger.

The book came with several plot twists. The writing was very sharp, witty and funny. Half way through you start thinking the book should end now and then comes another little twist or hiccup. However, by the end of the book everything is tied so neatly together you forgive the extra 100 pages.

Thank you for the opportunity to read this gem.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publishing team for sharing this ARC with me!

Heartbreak for Hire is about two unlikely characters meeting when they need each other most.

I went into this book expecting a workplace enemies-to-lovers romcoms but it wasn't quite that. Despite the hero and heroine work together briefly, there wasn't much of that or it really being enemies to lovers. I liked the journey each character had in acknowledging their pasts and how they can move forward.

Brinkley and Mark were very cute together but the romance felt...half-hearted. The pacing was also a little choppy. Overall, it was a cute read but not very memorable.

Brinkley works as a Heartbreaker for the company, Heartbreaker for Hire (H4H). She and a team of three other women are contacted by other women seeking revenge on the men in their lives - whether it's for professional or personal reasons they have all been wronged by these men in some way. The H4H helps right the wrongs and gets their women clientele the revenge and recognition they rightfully deserve by essentially "breaking" the men who have done them wrong.

This was a romantic comedy that I enjoyed, but I did feel like there were a few loose ends that needing tying up. One big one being... MARGO. Margo seemed to have such a psychological pull on these women and I wanted to see her get her own comeuppance. I would have appreciated an epilogue to elaborate on a few elements, but wasn't completely dissatisfied with the ending it did have. I have to admit that Brinkley's indecisiveness drove me bananas and I wanted to shake her for being so passive.

I really liked the fact that the women in this book weren't just romantically scorned women looking to even the score. Many of the situations were due to men overstepping their boundaries, women being taken advantage of financially, or the sheer unfairness of the male dominated professional world. Most women in these situations deserved the rewards and recognition they had been unfairly denied and seeking out H4H helped transfer the power back into their own hands.

Equal parts funny, romantic, and inspiring - overall a great read with a fresh plot line!

This was a very enjoyable, funny, and unique story. Definitely fell into the classic enemy to lovers trope, but with an interesting twist. I loved the idea of the H4H agency and how a pretty straight-forward "ego assignment" turns into something more. Overall, I was very much rooting for Mark & Brinkley and wanted them to have success, both romantically and professionally. The couple things that I wasn't crazy about were the Richard plotline (I thought this was left kind of open-ended), the very rushed ending, and Margo. Margo, the head of the Heartbreak for Hire agency, preys on women who are vulnerable and gets them to do her dirty work while running the agency like a dictator. I didn't really feel like this part of the story was wrapped up well beyond how Brinkley's connection to it wrapped up. I would have liked to know what became of this and have those that worked for the agency more connected to the plot.

I really enjoyed this book. Though predictable as many rom-com books are, it felt different from other similar books I've read recently. I was really rooting for Brinkley and Mark not only to end up together, but to also succeed in their personal endeavors. Fun, easy, interesting book!

Super fun rom-com with lots of heart. I enjoyed the Chicago setting and the focus on female empowerment. Looking forward to more books by Hartl!

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.

Heartbreak For Hire by Sonia Hartl was a wonderful book! It has such an interesting premise that was what drew me to the novel in the first place. Brinkley Saunders, our main protagonist, has been keeping her job a secret for the past two years. After a disastrous end to a relationship that leaves Brinkley with one too many demons, she ends up working as a professional heartbreaker. What is a professional heartbreaker you ask? At the core of it, people pay Brinkley to essentially take revenge on men who have done them wrong, whether it's professionally or personally. Brinkley specializes in the Ego department, where she works to bring down the egos of men who have wronged the women in their life.
After two years, the initial satisfaction Brinkley got from the job is slowly waning. She struggles with taking the leap into owning her own gallery, while constantly wondering whether she still believes in what she's doing. This is further pushed to the limit when her boss decides it's time to expand the business by bringing in male heartbreakers.
Gone is the sanctity of the all female office. Now the heartbreakers are forces to work with the very people who represent the men who hurt them. To make matters worse, Brinkley's male counterpart just happens to be one of her past marks.
I loved the way the author started the story by putting us straight into one of Brinkley's assignments. It stars off with a bang and keeps up the momentum throughout. Brinkley is such an intricate character, who goes through quite the journey in this book. She's funny and strong but what makes her relatable is that she's fallible. She's not perfect and she constantly works to improve herself while working through her trauma.
Mark's own profession puts him in the very field that Brinkley fought to leave in the past. So being around him essentially puts her back in her old stomping grounds that left her broken two years ago.
This book is about working through your fears and learning to take a leap of faith. It's about believing in yourself and trusting that sometimes things are not always the way they seem, and taking the time to look past the surface might just help you find something worth holding on to.
This book is funny with a pretty unique plot. It's light but doesn't shy away from the darker parts. It's romantic without being over the top. It's a book I enjoyed thoroughly.
The only thing that would have made me enjoy the book more was if there was a prologue that took place at that changing point in Brinkley's and an epilogue. Apart from that, there's not much else I would change about it. There were moments where I thought that the author was going to introduce some really cliched plot points that would have potentially skewed my opinion of the book. But the author surprised me and took these moments in directions that I was not expecting.
Overall, this book was extremely enjoyable! It was hilarious, emotional, and really unique. I would definitely recommend this if you're looking for a romance with a really fun plot and some lovely characters who are sure to leave a smile on your face!

Thank you #Netgalley for the advanced read!

Brinkley works at female led Heartbreak for Hire a company specializing in revenge for exs, coworkers, bosses, etc. One day their boss decided to allow males into the work place and asks each employee to train a male in their specialty. Brinkely is partnered with Mark, which she is not happy about. We follow the training process and how their lives are interwined in ways they did not realize.

I really wanted to love this book because the premise is pretty awesome. However, I really couldn't get behind any of the characters, except maybe the other 3 H4H, They were all kind of awful people and, while I powered through the book, I didn't enjoy the book as much as I thought I would. However, I did want to keep reading enough to find out how it all ended.

Thank you, NetGalley and the publisher for gifting me a copy of this book. I really enjoyed reading Brinkley and Mark's story.

The premise caught my attention from the very start, the idea of an undercover agency that seeks to avenge women that have been hurt or used in some way seemed an interesting and funny way for a heroine to meet her dream guy. However, this author surprised me in many ways with a story way deeper. More than the romance, it was a book about women empowerment and resilience.

First of all, I was touched beyond measure with Brinkley and the rest of the women that worked at H4H. They all have been hurt badly and wanted to feel redeemed. Brinkley had the right to feel the way she felt, but it was very encouraging to see her understanding how none of her missions at H4H mattered if she wasn't fully healed and if she wasn't living her life to the fullest nor following the dreams other people made her think were not worth pursuing. Her light had been deemed by the expectations of her mother and the emotional abuse of her ex and she was still suffering the consequences without even noticing. Her journey was tough and her insecurities about herself and love overall were relatable. Her spirit, the sisterhood she formed with Emma, Allie and Charlotte and the powerful realization that it wasn't the revenge what healed her but the friendship and sharing the burden and pain with them was simply empowering.

She was the star of this book all the way.

Mark, even though I hated what he did to her, I believed his intentions and feelings towards her were true and his apologies were genuine. I loved how he encouraged her to follow her dreams and take the leap of faith she was so scared of, he lifted her spirit and appreciated her art and understood her passions more than anyone ever did because he could relate to her struggles and insecurities. Again, I hated what he did to her, but I loved how he ended up putting his real passion and his love for her first before a career he wanted just for the title and not because he really wanted it. Brinkley taught him to be brave and to trust himself!

This beautiful and inspiring story was more than a romance story, it's an inspiring journey every woman should read about.

Heartbreak for Hire is a very entertaining rom-com, and it certainly did meet my expectations. Was it a little basic and typical? Yes, but it is still worth a read. I would've preferred if the ending was a little less rushed, and I would've liked to see how the whole Richard plot line affected Brinkley, the main character, more. Regardless, this is still a funny and delightful book. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a cute romance and to anyone interested in the relationships between men and women in the workplace.

This rom-com stands out in a crowded market. While many others push limits to differentiate themselves Heartbroken for Hire make it’s own way while not standing so far out you don’t know what it’s doing.

A fun rom-com that you can knock out in an afternoon. This book is the epitome of a beach read and would be great for breaking out of a reading slump. It’s no secret that enemies to lovers is one of my favorite romance tropes but unfortunately, this particular story didn’t click with me - a lot of it was just Too Much. I didn’t particularly care for either of the leads and the supporting characters weren’t fleshed out enough for me to form an opinion on. This isn’t a bad book by any means - the author is certainly a talented writer and can create a fun story - I just found it to be rather..........unreMARKable (do you see what I did there??)
