I really enjoyed this book. Though predictable as many rom-com books are, it felt different from other similar books I've read recently. I was really rooting for Brinkley and Mark not only to end up together, but to also succeed in their personal endeavors. Fun, easy, interesting book!

Super fun rom-com with lots of heart. I enjoyed the Chicago setting and the focus on female empowerment. Looking forward to more books by Hartl!

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.

Heartbreak For Hire by Sonia Hartl was a wonderful book! It has such an interesting premise that was what drew me to the novel in the first place. Brinkley Saunders, our main protagonist, has been keeping her job a secret for the past two years. After a disastrous end to a relationship that leaves Brinkley with one too many demons, she ends up working as a professional heartbreaker. What is a professional heartbreaker you ask? At the core of it, people pay Brinkley to essentially take revenge on men who have done them wrong, whether it's professionally or personally. Brinkley specializes in the Ego department, where she works to bring down the egos of men who have wronged the women in their life.
After two years, the initial satisfaction Brinkley got from the job is slowly waning. She struggles with taking the leap into owning her own gallery, while constantly wondering whether she still believes in what she's doing. This is further pushed to the limit when her boss decides it's time to expand the business by bringing in male heartbreakers.
Gone is the sanctity of the all female office. Now the heartbreakers are forces to work with the very people who represent the men who hurt them. To make matters worse, Brinkley's male counterpart just happens to be one of her past marks.
I loved the way the author started the story by putting us straight into one of Brinkley's assignments. It stars off with a bang and keeps up the momentum throughout. Brinkley is such an intricate character, who goes through quite the journey in this book. She's funny and strong but what makes her relatable is that she's fallible. She's not perfect and she constantly works to improve herself while working through her trauma.
Mark's own profession puts him in the very field that Brinkley fought to leave in the past. So being around him essentially puts her back in her old stomping grounds that left her broken two years ago.
This book is about working through your fears and learning to take a leap of faith. It's about believing in yourself and trusting that sometimes things are not always the way they seem, and taking the time to look past the surface might just help you find something worth holding on to.
This book is funny with a pretty unique plot. It's light but doesn't shy away from the darker parts. It's romantic without being over the top. It's a book I enjoyed thoroughly.
The only thing that would have made me enjoy the book more was if there was a prologue that took place at that changing point in Brinkley's and an epilogue. Apart from that, there's not much else I would change about it. There were moments where I thought that the author was going to introduce some really cliched plot points that would have potentially skewed my opinion of the book. But the author surprised me and took these moments in directions that I was not expecting.
Overall, this book was extremely enjoyable! It was hilarious, emotional, and really unique. I would definitely recommend this if you're looking for a romance with a really fun plot and some lovely characters who are sure to leave a smile on your face!

Brinkley works at female led Heartbreak for Hire a company specializing in revenge for exs, coworkers, bosses, etc. One day their boss decided to allow males into the work place and asks each employee to train a male in their specialty. Brinkely is partnered with Mark, which she is not happy about. We follow the training process and how their lives are interwined in ways they did not realize.

I really wanted to love this book because the premise is pretty awesome. However, I really couldn't get behind any of the characters, except maybe the other 3 H4H, They were all kind of awful people and, while I powered through the book, I didn't enjoy the book as much as I thought I would. However, I did want to keep reading enough to find out how it all ended.

Thank you, NetGalley and the publisher for gifting me a copy of this book. I really enjoyed reading Brinkley and Mark's story.

The premise caught my attention from the very start, the idea of an undercover agency that seeks to avenge women that have been hurt or used in some way seemed an interesting and funny way for a heroine to meet her dream guy. However, this author surprised me in many ways with a story way deeper. More than the romance, it was a book about women empowerment and resilience.

First of all, I was touched beyond measure with Brinkley and the rest of the women that worked at H4H. They all have been hurt badly and wanted to feel redeemed. Brinkley had the right to feel the way she felt, but it was very encouraging to see her understanding how none of her missions at H4H mattered if she wasn't fully healed and if she wasn't living her life to the fullest nor following the dreams other people made her think were not worth pursuing. Her light had been deemed by the expectations of her mother and the emotional abuse of her ex and she was still suffering the consequences without even noticing. Her journey was tough and her insecurities about herself and love overall were relatable. Her spirit, the sisterhood she formed with Emma, Allie and Charlotte and the powerful realization that it wasn't the revenge what healed her but the friendship and sharing the burden and pain with them was simply empowering.

She was the star of this book all the way.

Mark, even though I hated what he did to her, I believed his intentions and feelings towards her were true and his apologies were genuine. I loved how he encouraged her to follow her dreams and take the leap of faith she was so scared of, he lifted her spirit and appreciated her art and understood her passions more than anyone ever did because he could relate to her struggles and insecurities. Again, I hated what he did to her, but I loved how he ended up putting his real passion and his love for her first before a career he wanted just for the title and not because he really wanted it. Brinkley taught him to be brave and to trust himself!

This beautiful and inspiring story was more than a romance story, it's an inspiring journey every woman should read about.

Heartbreak for Hire is a very entertaining rom-com, and it certainly did meet my expectations. Was it a little basic and typical? Yes, but it is still worth a read. I would've preferred if the ending was a little less rushed, and I would've liked to see how the whole Richard plot line affected Brinkley, the main character, more. Regardless, this is still a funny and delightful book. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a cute romance and to anyone interested in the relationships between men and women in the workplace.

Thank you, NetGalley and Gallery Books for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This rom-com stands out in a crowded market. While many others push limits to differentiate themselves Heartbroken for Hire make it’s own way while not standing so far out you don’t know what it’s doing.

A fun rom-com that you can knock out in an afternoon. This book is the epitome of a beach read and would be great for breaking out of a reading slump. It’s no secret that enemies to lovers is one of my favorite romance tropes but unfortunately, this particular story didn’t click with me - a lot of it was just Too Much. I didn’t particularly care for either of the leads and the supporting characters weren’t fleshed out enough for me to form an opinion on. This isn’t a bad book by any means - the author is certainly a talented writer and can create a fun story - I just found it to be rather..........unreMARKable (do you see what I did there??)

A very fun addition to the crowded contemporary romance genre. A recommended first purchase for collections where similar titles are popular.

I have only read one other book by Sonia Hartl but I loved it so much that I will read whatever she writes. I loved the characters in this book. I think that the premise of Brinkley's job is creative and interesting. There were some curve balls thrown at the reader but in a good way. I found myself rooting for all of the main characters. I wanted them all to heal and find happiness.

This was so fun! Perfect for fans of The Hating Game or The Ex Talk. A perfect balance of steamy and heartfelt.

Heartbreak For Hire is like a revenge rom com.
I thought the storyline was clever. I enjoyed Brinkley and the many characters surrounding her. Her relationship with Mark had me conflicted at times with how much it went back and forth.

It was an interesting idea but it fell short of my expectations.

Heartbreak for Hire is a woman-owned and run agency that specializes in enacting revenge and humiliation on men who have done a woman wrong. An accountant whose male boss forces her to dress as the Statue of Liberty to sell their tax services hires Brinkley to embarrass and humiliate the guy in front of all his coworkers. Sure, it's a funny set-up, but then again, is it really okay to stoop to his level? If he gets off on degrading women, is it any better if the woman gets revenge by degrading him? Do two wrongs make a right? Margo, the head of the Heartbreak for Hire agency preys on young women who are vulnerable, getting them to do her dirty work and running the shop with an iron fist. It just made me uncomfortable.

Along the way, Brinkley is hired to humiliate a guy named Mark. Instead, they fall for each other and it's a complicated and messy situation.

I do appreciate the opportunity to read this digital advance copy in return for an honest review thanks to NetGalley and Gallery Books.

I was not familiar with Sonia Hartl so I went in with no expectations. I saw a cute cover and thought a cute rom-com. Unfortunately for this book, I feel like publishers are doing a bit of false advertising currently. They put a cute cover on a book but too many times in the recent past do these books need a warning label.

Hartl has written a book that had too many extremes for me. Brinkley was a likable character but everything in her life was over-the-top. For example, Brinkley's relationship with her mom was so volatile, her mom had hidden Brinkley's paternity, Brinkley's cat was crazy but wore sweaters, Brinkley's job was as a heartbreaker for hire, Brinkley's ex-boyfriend was abusive, her friends deserted her when her ex broke up with her and those are just a few examples. Nothing about Brinkley was average or normal which made the entire story feel a bit unbelievable. The foundation of the writing was fine but the storyline missed the mark for me.

I absolutely loved this book!!! Just the right amount to drama and steam!! I adored Brinkley’s character. She was so real and broken...her hurt and her anger really showed throughout the story. I love how she developed and really began to think about her life. The twist towards the end was perfect!! Loved Loved Loved this book!!

I really LOVED the concept behind this book, but the execution just didn't do it for me. I'm disappointed because I wanted to overwhelmingly love it.

The meet-cute in the beginning between Mark and Brinkley was fun and really set this up to be a fun story. Somewhere along the way it lost me - maybe it was when the men were hired at H4H, or when Brinkley and Mark argued for the hundredth time about the same things, or when I got tired of trying to understand the world of college academics. Perhaps one of the things that bothered me most about this book was the concept of the H4H business. Brinkley’s job did lead to some humorous scenes, but for me to buy into this as an actual business?
To believe that this could be an actual job for women and have it broken into departments depending on how you’d been wronged? I’m all about fiction, but this felt a bit silly. I had high hopes for this story, especially after the beginning chapters, but it quickly fell apart for me and never quite regained its charm.
