The book, second in the series, has Devlin and Falco teaming up with Sadie Cross again. The DDA (deputy district attorney) is found dead along with another famous businessman. The double homicide has links deeper than anyone would have expected. These lead the detectives straight to Sadie and her past (which she cannot remember except in bits and pieces).
To add to the pressure, there has been an incident at Tori’s school. Tori is the teenage daughter of Kate Devlin and is facing issues of her own. The more they dig around, the more the cases merge, complicating things from all sides.
There are powerful people who do not want their roles exposed. Orders are bypassed, and people are double-crossed. Can the trio solve the cases before more lives are lost?
I haven’t read book 1, but that didn’t make any difference. There are references to the previous case, but those are used to highlight the personalities of the characters rather than alter the current cases.
The writing is easy to read, and the story flows at a steady pace. Something or the other happens in every chapter and scene. I was never once bored with the book or wanted to skim through. The chapters are marked with the location, date, time, and character so that we know who will play a prominent role.
One of the reviewers said that the blurb doesn’t do justice to the book. I agree. This book needs a better blurb. The story is gripping, even though some of it is predictable. The emotions of the characters are neither overwhelming nor bland. They strike the right note to keep the focus on the story.
The ending isn’t rushed or abrupt. The threads are knotted one after another just as leisurely as they were unraveled. The relationship of the trio is being explored one step at a time to build the series. That works well for the book.
Even though there are quite a lot of characters to remember, it’s not a big deal once we get into the book. There isn’t a lot of intense action or violence. That’s another plus. Though I have no issues with violence in books, it wasn’t needed in this one. The author maintained that restraint rather well.
One of the tropes wasn’t that effective or gripping, but that’s fine. There are only so many tropes to try, after all.
To conclude, this is a fast-paced thriller that starts and ends well.
Thank you, NetGalley and Thomas & Mercer, for the ARC copy.

I love Debra Webb and I know I will always get a consistently good story whenever I pick up one of her books. Gone Too Far is book 2 in the Devlin and Falco series and I really enjoyed it. A nice suspenseful thriller to read by the fire.

I enjoyed the book and it’s characters so much that I will be going back to read the book before this one in the series. I think this author will become one of my fav new authors.

This riveting second book in the Devlin and Falco series had me on the edge of my seat as the complicated and multi-layered plot was masterfully unraveled by author Debra Webb. Definitely a suspense thriller, the main characters are Birmingham detectives Katie Devlin and Luke Falco who are called in to investigate a double homicide. One of the victims is a deputy district attorney, Asher Walsh who is somehow connected to former detective Sadie Cross. Sadie had left the force after an undercover operation with the Osorio drug cartel went way south and she ended up with a fragmented memory and nightmares. To add to the plot, Katie’s daughter Tori is involved in an incident at her school that resulted in the injury of a “mean girl.” So many interesting twists and turns were in this book! I enjoyed learning more about Katie’s family life and how devoted she is to Tori and I really liked getting to know Sadie. She is broken because of her past, but she is not irredeemable. The characters made the story, in my opinion, because they were varied, active and so realistic that I expected them to leave the written page and share with me the secrets of what was going to happen next. There was lots of fast-paced action and plenty of cerebral detective work going on as well. Although this is the second book in the series, it can easily be read as a standalone. Fans of suspense thrillers and police procedurals will want to get their hands on this book and devour its mesmerizing pages!

I really like this series, anyone who appreciates police themed suspense will recognize and appreciate Debra Webb. Kerri and Luke each have a past that does not indicate they will be the best of partners, yet they gel in a very workable manner. Luke is respected and adored by Kerri's daughter who desperately needs to feel valued. This case delves into a dark side of Birmingham's past that may still be present in the most insidious form. Who to trust and how far to trust them makes for some very unlikely allies.

Gone Too Far – Debra Webb

If you are a fan of mysteries & thrillers and prefer recurring characters, you’ll definitely want to give Webb’s Falco & Devlin team a try.

Fresh off their first novel (which I have not yet read, but I certainly plan to), Birmingham Detectives Luke Falco & Kerri Devlin are called to the scene of a murder. Two bodies, seated in chairs, hands bound behind them, and shot execution style. One of them is a bar owner, but the other is none other than Birmingham’s Deputy District Attorney Asher Walsh. As they begin to assess the scene, Kerri gets a phone call from her daughter Tori’s school, and they need to see her immediately.

Leaving Falco to continue the murder investigation, Kerri goes to her daughter, only to find her being interrogated by colleagues, and learns that Tori was one of four young women standing on a staircase landing, when a classmate Brendal, either fell or was pushed, resulting in critical injury. None of the teens are able to state what happened, with Tori telling her mother that she doesn’t remember.

Meanwhile, Sadie Cross, former BPD Detective turned private investigator, is slowly trying to put her life back together. Sadie had been presumed lost on a deep undercover operation, only to re-appear a year later, with only scattered bits and pieces of memories of the events that lead to her disappearance, along with the haunting memory of a child lost.

As the investigation commences, it quickly becomes apparent that DDA Walsh was looking into the Osorio drug cartel, the same cartel that Sadie had infiltrated on her undercover op, but what was his connection? Falco, Devlin & Sadie become unlikely partners as they dig deep into the investigation, while Kerri also desperately tries to protect her daughter from an increasingly hostile situation…

Another great find, thanks to Thomas & Mercer Publishers & Netgalley.com. I have always enjoyed mystery/suspense series with recurring characters and this duo does not disappoint! This is the second in a (so far) two book series, and alludes to events in the first book, so I’m off to find that for my next read – so, suggesting that they be read in order! The characters are very likeable, and there appears to be a deepening connection between Kerri & Luke that begs to be explored in future stories. Sadie is also a fascinating persona, with a brash, irascible, devil-may-care personality, which I suspect will also under-go great change in the next in the series. Honestly, I cannt wait to get me hands on it. There’s nothing better than a series, that has you desperate to get your hands on the next edition! Great read, great characters, great plot, great series!! Need I say more??

As a fan of the author's Devlin/Falco thrillers, I was really excited about this chance to read early.
The story does not disappoint!
Devlin and Falco play so well off each other it's uncanny.
This time they are working 2 homicides. The number of deaths keep piling up. The plot is so well thought out that the surprises keep on coming.
Sadie Cross makes a great appearance in Gone Too Far.
No spoilers! Put this one on your "to read" list!

I just recently read Debra Webb for the first time in her new series book one “Trust No One” and was very impressed so was thrilled when I was given the chance to read the second installment, “Gone Too Far.” Birmingham police detectives Kerri Devlin and Luke Falco are back and they are on fire. When the city’s DA is found dead they pull in the hardened former BPD detective Sadie Cross from the last book for help and things go south quickly from there. The case is complicated and multi-faceted, and Kerri and Luke are unsure who to trust. To make matters worse. Keri’s daughter, Tori, is involved in a suspicious “mean-girl” attack at school that threatens her future.

This synopsis does not do the book justice as this book is one of the best thrillers I’ve read this year. There were quite a few characters to keep up with, but all in all it was not difficult to follow. It was especially rewarding to learn Sadie Cross’s back story which is an important part of the book. I eagerly await the next installment of this series. Many, many thanks to #netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book. I gave it four and half stars rounded up to five! #GoneTooFar

Webb of Lies

Get it? Webb of Lies... anyway! Gone too Far is a great mystery novel with a whole web of cases and character stories! It’s very well thought out and planned out. I really enjoyed journeying through my first Devlin & Falco book, although this is the second in series.

There are a few things I have questions on, but they would definitely be spoiler alerts. With that in mind, I think I need to read the first book to have some of them answered. So don’t let that stop you from reading this one! It really has great twists and turns, a couple of them I didn’t even catch! Happy reading!

Second book in this series I thoroughly enjoyed the two main characters with a top-notch story with a solid plot line and non-stop action. I am looking forward to reading more from this author. I received an e-book from NetGalley in return for an unbiased review.

This book is a complex, complicated storyline with many characters that are vital to the story.
Kerri Devlin and, her partner Luke Falco are Homicide Detectives in BPD who are called out to a double murder at a bar. It is the bar owner and, the very prominent DDA of the city.
At the same time, Kerri's daughter Tori is caught up in an accident that involves a girl who falls backwards down the stairs at school and, ends up dying. The three girls facing the girl who fell are Tori, her best friend Sarah and, the new girl Alice, who is very strange, very manipulative and, calls herself a princess.
Former BPD Detective Sadie Cross is still dealing with the gaps in her memory of the time she spent undercover in the lair of a drug king in Mexico. As time goes on, Sadie keeps remembering more and more and, somehow, all of these memories are helping her realize that all of these situations are involved and, part of a very intricately intertwined chain of events where all of the pieces are finally coming full circle.
Do not miss this book!!

Gone Too Far is a thrilling story or actually two stories in one great book. Two very serious cases bring back two favorite characters Devlin and Falco can’t be beat as detectives with the Birmingham Police Department. The two cases are both riveting and also bring some new and some old characters into play. Gone Too Far is a rollercoaster ride that will have you holding your breath and holding on to your seat from the first page till the last. Great writing and real suspense. Strong characters who you will fall in love with. You will want to know their stories. This is a great read. Thank you Debra Webb.

So good!! I really enjoyed the first book in the series so was delighted to try the second. This is a much stronger outing for Devlin and Falco. Sure there are some cop clichés, but the characters feel more comfortable and the story works well. I was delighted to find out more about the mysterious Sadie Cross and the dual storylines running through made for a gripping read that kept me hanging on to the end.

Thanks Netgalley for allowing me to read this book. Detectives Kerri and Luke need to solve the murder of the district attorney. The more time they spend on the case the more questions they encounter. This book captured my attention from the beginning.

Debra Webb has become one of my must read authors! I enjoyed this book but there were a few things I didn't love. I wished it was longer, the first book in this series was nice and long but this was kind of short. I also felt like the romance between devlin and falco came out of nowhere. I felt like I had missed a book inbetween this one and the first book. It seemed like we jumped into it and I needed more build up. Also didn't love how they threw in her daughter being gay out of nowhere. Could have done without that. but I still really enjoyed the book and will read anything she writes!

When I got Gone Too far, I had been looking forward to continuing with Devlin and Falco after their stint in Trust No One. I definitely enjoyed the continuation in Gone Too Far, even though this was a completely different case than what was in Trust No One. I definitely think there needed to be a little bit of research done by Webb, but the book flowed incredibly well! I would definitely read more of Debra Webb's books!
