This is a romance. I like the characters, and I enjoyed being in the book with these characters. I just wanted a little more from this book. The pacing was a little mixed up fast pace at the beginning, middle was small pace, and then the ending was ok. I did not love the ending because I wanted more. I did not hate this book, but I did not love this book. I found this book just ok. I was kindly provided an e-copy of this book by the publisher (Harlequin Special Edition) or author (Michelle Major) via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review about how I feel about this book, and I want to send a big Thank you to them for that.

When Grace falls from a toppling balcony from the newly made Fortune Hotel and she refuses to let it get her down. Wiley's brother is her boss and from the moment they saw eachother he fell for her and can't help but worry about Grace. Grace had her heart broken and things didn't turn out well and so help but be skeptical when it comes to Wiley but as he sticks around while she heals up he can't help but romance her.
I really enjoyed this book. I liked getting to know Wiley and Graces character. It was understandable why Grace felt certain ways throughout the book after what her family went through with her brother and there was so much riding on her promotion and now she's injured and theres question if having this relationship could jeopardize what she's working for. Grace loved her job and independance and refuses to let things stand in her way and I loved that about her character. I enjoyed the romance even if I think the whole love at first sight thing is a bit corney. Overall this was a pretty good book.

Her Texas New Year’s Wish is the first book in the Fortunes of Texas: The Hotel Fortune series and was a great start for the series. It was well written, interesting, and paced perfectly. Some characters from the other Fortune of Texas series make an appearance and it was nice to see them again.
Grace Williams was part of the Hotel Fortune’s managerial trainee program and was working hard to land the position of General Manager. She had left her previous job after an embarrassing situation with her ex-boyfriend, a previous co-worker. She did not have time for any relationships and certainly not with one of the Fortunes who were her bosses.
Wiley Fortune was a successful lawyer in Chicago, but he had come to Texas to visit his siblings. He did not understand what had drawn his siblings into moving to a small town in Texas. Growing up with seven siblings had been hard on him and he had no intentions of living near them again. But he was not expecting to meet Grace and feel such a strong connection to her. Now he must choose between his career goals and love.
This was an enjoyable book to read and I love how the Fortune family’s lives are interwoven between the series. I look forward to reading future books of the Fortune family.
I received an ARC and am willingly leaving a review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

HER TEXAS NEW YEAR’S WISH is the first book in the FORTUNES OF TEXAS: THE HOTEL FORTUNE series. There are other FORTUNES OF TEXAS books that are in various series, but they’re written by different authors (which makes it hard for me to keep track of the books in the series and I’ve only read one or two others as a result.)
The story has likable siblings in the Fortune family, and many are involved in opening a hotel and partnering with other businesses in the small town of Rambling Rose, Texas. When oldest brother Wiley is home for a visit from his high powered job as an attorney in Chicago, things don’t go as planned. He finds himself attracted to a woman who happens to be interning at the hotel. He doesn’t do serious and usually calls all the shots when dating. When she unexpectedly gets hurt on the premises, Wiley seems more than a bit concerned. We get to know him and Grace a little at a time but seem to only scratch the surface since they often have problems communicating.
The story has a nice flow, and it was interesting to see both Wiley and Grace out of their comfort zones. Of course, since Grace is an employee and Wiley has a reputation as a playboy, his siblings don’t know why he’s so interested in being the one in contact with Grace (while she recuperates but also works from home.) Romance is definitely in the air!
A fun romance, but the book ended too abruptly for me. An epilogue would have been nice to solidify the happily-ever-after, but that may be taking place in the next book in the series. I always enjoy Harlequin books since they bring some nostalgia into my life since they are one of the first types of romances I read when I was younger but have come a long way since then.

This is part of the Fortune series. I didn't read the books before about this series of Texas Fortunes, but I'm looking forward to checking out some of the other character stories after reading this book. This book features an instant attraction between the two lead characters that sparkles throughout the book and adds a nice romance spice until the end of the story.

After a bad break up and losing her job, Grace Williams is determined to make a new start and become the new general manager at the Hotel Fortune. She has some stiff competition for the job, but that’s not going to stop her. At a hotel function, she plans to show what a valuable employee she is when she makes eye contact with her bosses’ brother, Wiley Fortune. She's immediately attracted to the man. Then, suddenly the hotel’s balcony caves in and Grace falls to the ground.
Wiley Fortune is stunned when he sees Grace Williams. He's instantly mesmerized by her beauty. When he sees her fall over the balcony, his heart drops and he races to her rescue.
The sparks fly from the start for Wiley and Grace. Although, things do not go as smoothly as they would have liked. Since Wiley lives in Chicago, they agree that this relationship cannot be anything more than a temporary fling, but is that really what they want?
I loved this story right from the start. The main characters are so likeable. Even the secondary characters are genuinely nice. People I could really care about. It’s a fast-paced romance that I devoured.
The Fortunes of Texas are a long-running Harlequin series. This book is the first of a new “sub-series” and it’s off to a great start. I didn’t feel as if I missed anything as this book is Grace and Wiley’s story. Characters from other Fortune books make appearances but I never felt lost. I really didn’t feel as if I missed anything by not reading the previous Fortune series. However, I really want to catch up with this family. They each have their own story to tell and each book is written by a different author.
This is another series to add to my “must read” list.

3.5 stars
I really enjoyed this book.
Grace and Wiley have marvellous chemistry. I loved how independent Grace is. She’s a hard worker and still loves her overbearing family. LOL
It’s a quick read. And a great choice if you’re looking for a good escape.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing an arc in exchange for my honest review.

This is a fantastic insta-love story that I just couldn't put down.
I loved the story and the characters so much.

After having reviewed The Last Man She Expected, I was looking forward to another book by Michelle Major. I wanted a book related to New Year and Her Texas New Year's Wish sounded just the thing to start off 2021.
I thought the way Grace was injured was a little unbelievable because the real-life events I have found online with similar accidents were caused by the weight of more than one person. I expected her to have been more injured and think it would have been better if she was as that would have tested her and Wiley more.
The "insta romance" was too quick, undeveloped and cutesy. The book did not really get going for me until the 20% mark, and it was slow to start with. I enjoyed the family dynamics and Grace was pretty strong-willed which I also liked.
The conflicts over the accident were pretty interesting and the action in the story happened quicker after 30%. Priorities. responsibilities and duty are some of the themes in this book.
The writing was good but too vague on details, and business, pleasure and real life are well intermingled. I enjoyed the horse riding scene with Wiley and his siblings. I would have liked more detail about the setting as Texas is a state I have not yet been to.
I felt things slotted into place too quickly in some places and like I didn't know much about all the characters but wanted more backstory for all of them and more romance between Grace and Wiley. Things seemed a little too "easy". For example, what would have happened if Grace had not been able to stay with her parents?
I hoped that opening the hotel went well and that Grace and Wiley got on, but I was expecting more chemistry between them. I loved the detail in Jake's accident but would have loved similar in Grace's. What did the cast feel like? What did her pain feel like? Trying to move? Tiredness? I felt like I wanted to know more about what she went through other than the mention of her frustration at living with sudden reduced mobility.
There was not really any mention of the new year or an atmosphere to suggest it. I'm not sure what to think of the ending either but I was not quite convinced.
Even so, I am glad this is first in series so I haven't missed things if I move onto the next book.
Thanks to Michelle Major and publisher for my ARC in exchange for an honest and voluntary review.
4 stars.

This is a heartwarming addition to this series, a delightful contemporary romance in which attraction on first meeting is quickly followed by near tragedy and injury as the hotel balcony on which Grace Williams is standing inexplicably collapses toppling her to the ground. Wiley Fortune, the brother of the hotel owners, can't believe the woman he was instantly attracted to is almost killed before he can even get to know her! Life's too short to miss opportunities and although both of them have been hurt in the past, is this their chance at a future together?
With siblings interfering, her parents both wary, these two are going to have plenty of obstacles to them getting together! However, the two biggest problems are her need to be independent and his job being so far away. There's plenty of things for them to overcome but this is a lovely read, with great family dynamics, plenty of drama and, of course, a heartwarming romance. It is a great story to escape into, one that leaves you with a smile on your face.
Thank you to Harlequin and NetGalley for my copy of this book which I have voluntarily read and honestly reviewed.

Good start to the new series. The Hotel Fortune in Rambling Rose is about a month short of opening. The Fortune family hosts a birthday party there involving some of their management trainees. One of the people attending is the oldest brother, Wiley. Wiley always felt a little out of step with the rest of his family while growing up, as well as smothered by sheer numbers - he has seven brothers and sisters. He went to law school out of state, took a job in Chicago, and rarely visited his family. Wiley is at the party to support the family but plans to return to Chicago in a few days. Then a lightning bolt of attraction hits as he sees Grace from across the room.
Grace was born and raised in Rambling Rose. She left college to go home to help when her brother was injured in an accident. Afterward, she returned to complete her hospitality management degree, then took a job at another Fortune property, Cowboy Country. She enjoyed her time there but left after a humiliating breakup with a cheating boyfriend. Grace returned home to put her life back together and enrolled in the training program at Hotel Fortune. She is determined to earn the job as the hotel's general manager. She has no time or inclination for distractions in the form of a sexy lawyer from out-of-town.
I loved the first meeting between Wiley and Grace. It was short but hit Wiley especially hard. I thoroughly enjoyed seeing the somewhat cynical man so gobsmacked by his reaction to her that he lost focus. Grace felt it, too, but is wary of trusting another man. When Grace is injured in a freak accident at the hotel, Wiley steps in to help her out.
I enjoyed the development of Wiley and Grace's relationship. In the beginning, Grace is wary of Wiley, unsure of whether he is interested in her or merely trying to prevent a lawsuit. Her family and friends urge caution, but she can't deny the sparks that fly whenever she's near him. Wiley can't stop his desire to take care of Grace. There are several sweet scenes of an almost shy Wiley doing things he thinks will help her. Grace has some issues with his help. She has worked hard to build up her independence and self-confidence after her breakup. Unfortunately, Grace feels smothered by her overprotective family, and Wiley's actions sometimes run up against those feelings. I liked that Grace feels comfortable enough to confront Wiley when she thinks he oversteps and that Wiley quickly reassures her that he has no doubts about her abilities.
As they spend time together, Wiley and Grace discover more than just attraction between them. I enjoyed seeing the friendship grow first, with their attraction simmering in the background. However, Grace is still cautious and insists on keeping anything between them a secret from everyone, afraid of being accused of using Wiley. I loved seeing them grow closer, and both begin to realize that there may be more to their feelings. When Wiley returns to Chicago because of an emergency at work, the time apart allows fears to surface. I wanted to shake them both for pushing each other away rather than talking about it. I ached for Wiley when his actions (or inactions) gave Grace a reason to end things between them. It was fun to see Wiley get relationship advice from one of his younger sisters and realize that he needed to fix things. I loved his big moment at the end and the unexpected help he received to pull it off.
I liked the secondary characters of Wiley's siblings and their obvious closeness as a family. Their support of each other is unwavering, both professionally and personally. I'm looking forward to seeing more of them. I also liked Grace's brother, Jake, though he did come across as a jerk initially. Like the rest of her family, he is overprotective and needs to see her for the adult she is. I liked the conversation he had with Wiley near the end of the book.
The collapsing balcony issue that injured Grace was referred to several times. There is some question of whether it was truly an accident. I'm interested to see if this concern continues through the rest of the books.

Grace and Wiley had an instant connection that had me swooning over their every interaction. There is a lot of drama packed into this tiny story and it helped the story stay at consistently high pace. Between Wiley and Grace trying to figure their priorities out, Grace's recovery, what or who caused the balcony to collapse, Grace's issues with her family and the competition for who is going to be the hotel's general manager, there was constantly something going on. This story absolutely flew by and I found myself not wanting to put it down because I knew that something good/juicy was going to be happening. I really admired the fact that Major managed to create a layered story but the relationship at the core of the book never felt rushed. I thought the way things developed between Grace and Wiley was realistic and the build up of it made the pay off at the end so much sweeter. I had a strong emotional connection to Grace because she is the first character that I have read that has similar mobility limitations like me. Although, I have never been in a cast but I empathized so much with her frustrations at not being able to move around at will and also her low energy levels. I think this probably elevated the book to a higher rating for me and I don't know how someone who doesn't have this personal connection will feel about her. She is a strong willed woman and at times maybe too stubborn about it but I could understand her irritation. I also enjoyed the town of Rambling Roses and I want to learn more about the Fortune family so I fully intend on picking up the earlier (and future) books in this series.

Her Texas New Year's Wish is the perfect read for bringing in the new year, especially when we're better off curling up with a good book than getting out and risking our health. This romance is a great get away from it all type of book. It's a reasonably quick read with likable characters and an interesting storyline - all in all, a good way to start a series. The pacing is good, the romance is sweet, and Grace and Wiley have great chemistry. This one does walk the line of instalove - the attraction is certainly instant - and I'm not usually a fan of instalove, but the length and pacing of the book along with the writing style make it work. This is my first book by Michelle Major, but it won't be my last. As series starters go, this one does what it should - the characters and story are engaging, and I'm definitely interested in seeing what comes next for The Fortunes of Texas.

Wiley Fortune is a lawyer, and he is back in town for the opening of his families new hotel, Hotel Fortune. At the launch party Wiley sees a beautiful woman whom he is bound and determined to meet. Wiley has no idea how this beauty will change his life.
Grace Williams is one of three candidates for a manager position with Hotel Fortune. She is investing everything into this job and this chance. When she topples off a balcony, has she become a liability to the family, or will they stand by her as she recovers?
Wiley can not figure out what it is about Grace that makes him want to care and protect her. He becomes her champion during her recovery even though her family and friends warn her that he is only out to protect his family’s investments. As Wiley and Grace spend more time together, things start to heat up in every department. Will Grace still be up for the promotion if she is sleeping with the boss? Can Wiley convince Grace’s family he only has her best interests at heart?
What a fabulous story and an awesome start to a new series. I loved the main characters and how they were both such caring and gentle people, yet ambitious and driven. I am a huge fan of the author Michelle Major writing style, and she did not disappoint in this novel. I am excited for the next book in the series, to read the stories of the supporting characters in the Fortune family. Thank you so much to the author Michelle Major, Harlequin Publishing and NetGalley for an advanced copy of the book to review. It was awesome! All opinions expressed for this review are unbiased and entirely my own.

I honestly adored this book. The insta love was a little intense of course, but I was really rooting for the couple to win. I enjoyed the way that they did try to communicate their expectations to each other early on so that they had time to consider the difficult parts of their relationship.
I honestly felt that it could have wrapped up a little better for me, but I know there will be more story to tell.

Thank you NetGalley, Harlequin and Michelle Major for gifting me an advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest review!
Her Texas New Year’s Wish is book number one in Michelle Major’s new Fortunes of Texas series. I actually had to go back and check it wasn’t book number 3 or 4 because the book starts off describing a few newer couples! After a little research, it seems that this series is weaving characters from an older series of hers. I love when authors give readers a glimpse of past main characters we fell in love with! If you are in the mood for a quick and light read that ends in a sweet HAE, look not further! My last book wasn’t very good so I was desperate for a book I KNEW I would enjoy. Enter Harlequin. Anytime I need a palate cleansing romance read, Harlequin books are my go-to!
This is an instant-love romance with the chemistry being immediate. While quick infatuation isn’t always my favorite trope, I think that Michelle Major wrote this in a fantastic way! Book number 2 in the series is already in the works and I’m excited to get a few glimpses of these two in the coming books!
