This was a very age appropriate biography of John Lennon. It went through his life including his time with the Beatles. I wish the part about his death had been a little less sugar coated, but I can understand why there weren't details. The end of the book has a more in depth biography, but still left out some of the specifics. I feel that if there is going to be a biography, it should have all of the facts.

This was a cute and age appropriate story about the great musician John Lennon. His life story was briefly and concisely explained in a way that would make it easy to introduce children to the music of the Beatles.

A well-written book about one of the best songwriters ever, this book manages to show the depth of John Lennon's life while remaining accessible for a young audience.. I appreciated having real pictures and a more detailed account of his life available at the end of the book.

I got this on Netgalley in exchange for an honest review!
I really love this series, and how diverse the choices of people to focus on are! I liked the art style and felt like I learned some facts about John Lennon that I didn't know beforehand!

Here is yet another entry in this wonderful biography series for young children. John Lennon’s story (but not the cause of his death) is told from the time he was a young boy through his first band, the success of the Beatles, John’s meeting Yoko and his deep wish for peace. Readers will also learn some fun facts including what John once wore when he performed and what Brian Eno asked from the Beatles before he took them on.

The illustrations are charming and complement the story. This is another good title for the collection of a child you know.

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this title. All opinions are my own.

Even though John Lennon is pretty much a household name, it’s nice to be able to learn something new about him.

Due to the fact that this series looks at the person’s whole life, we learn a little about them as children. I am not sure that I knew John Lennon was raised by his aunt, and I did not know that he was a less than exemplary student!

While I don’t condone discouraging children from doing their best at school, it’s nice to see someone, that wasn’t academically inclined, find his passion, work hard at it and find success.

As with the other books in this series, this one offers such an accessible starting point, in a journey to find out more. There’s a bit more information in the back of the book, as well as real photos, which I know kids love. There’s also a recommendation to read another book, a picture book, called Imagine, which is the words to the song of the same name.

Like other books about musicians in this series, I can just imagine the joy adults will have sharing some of their favourite music with their children after reading this one.

This was an amazing book to explain the legend of John Lennon to children. Beautifully illustrated and simply written it hits all the major points for a child to understand. It includes more formal facts at the end to pinpoint the historical timeline!

Very enjoyable quick read

Another wonderful entry into this series! I absolutely adored the illustrations in this one. Parents will enjoy this one as there are many iconic image references to the Beatles and John Lennon. The story briefly goes over Lennon's life and how he didn't always fit in, but made important contributions to society with his music.

Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for providing this ARC.

Who doesn't know The Beatles? Living miles away from England, we all know this band. Here's a story of one of their members, John Lennon.

As usually, illustrated and with not so many words help kids know one of world's legend, the person their parents or grandparents listened to. I always enjoy quick read like this, since the facts given are the notable ones, and most of the time contains encouragement to kids to pursue their dreams.

5 star as always. Though I would have preferred a bit more detail in the end. Ending seemed a bit abrupt.

The latest entry in the Little People, BIG DREAMS biography series. Vegara takes readers from Lennon's childhood through the Beatles years and on through his solo career. She does not address his death and simply refers to the date in the timeline at the end of the book. A wise decision in a book for young readers. The simple to follow text makes this a terrific first biography for elementary readers.

John Lennon is another amazing installment into the Little People Big Dreams series by Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara which teaches children about some of the most influential people who have made a change to the world they live in in some form or another.
This book tells of John Lennon and how he helped shape music and was part of one of the earliest boy bands we had.

I can't get enough of this series!

This is another great book to add to the Little People, Big Dreams collection!

I love this series as they are perfect introductions to young people about some of the most famous and influential people from our past and present and are also a reminder about how these people have also changed our history.

5 stars from me for this one, very highly recommended and can't wait for my daughter to get involved in the series - my husband loves John Lennon so this will be one that he will enjoy reading with her too!

I grew up listening to my parents' Beatles albums in our basement and now MY kids are growing up listening to be Beatles over Bluetooth speakers in our home. Times may change but some things are always awesome, like good music. I am happy to pass along my appreciation for The Beatles to my kids.

So, I was super excited to see that a John Lennon book was being added to the Little People, BIG DREAMS picture book series. This book tells about John's childhood in Liverpool, UK and how he while he wasn't the best student, he had an early talent for music and art. We hear about how he formed a band in high school where he met Paul and how that band eventually became The Beatles. The book goes through John's time with The Beatles, his relationship with Yoko Ono and his solo career.

This is an awesome book for any music lover in your life. It is loaded with wonderful, full color illustrations and an "appendix" with lots of additional info about John.

Thank you to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group for kindly providing me with a digital copy of this book for review.
When my eldest son was still in infant school, his class project was once The Beetles. At the time I thought this might be a hard sell to get such young children interested in a pop group from the time before some of their grandparents were born even. We decided to tackle it head on though and took a day trip to Liverpool and visited the Beetles museum. Both my children loved it- particularly all the yellow submarine stuff. So much so they ask regularly when we can go back.
I digress, but my point is that if you present something in the right way to a child, they will be interested and want to learn. And that’s what I think these little people books do so well. There’s just enough to grab a small person’s attention without overloading them. And the artwork is always engaging and vibrant.
One thing I’m still on the fence about is that there is no reference to how, why or when John Lennon died. I fully appreciate that these books are designed for very young children and there is a desire to protect them from some of the brutality in the world. But I can’t quite decide if it’s just misleading children to completely gloss over these things.
I do think this particular time (Covid-19 pandemic) would be a good time to read this with children as the book begins by explaining that John Lennon was born during WW2 and he would go to sleep dreaming of peace. That feeling of being stuck in a difficult time might be something that children living through the pandemic now might be able to relate to. I think they would certainly find his story inspiring.

3.5 Stars

I couldn't resist reading this short children's book with illustrations about John Lennon. It tells a gentle and simplified story of his life geared to very young children. There were just a couple of things that bothered me, because I am a diehard Beatles fan and know my Beatles history. I know this is a children's book and they won't mind, but even for the sake of the parents who probably are Beatles fans, at least be more authentic. When The Beatles were on the cusp of becoming famous, they wore black leather pants and jackets, not colorful sweaters. Also, when their manager Brian Epstein discovered The Beatles, he wasn't just some "stylish guy". Yes, he dressed impeccably in a suit and tie, but that was because his family owned a chain of music stores as well as a furniture store and he was an important man of business in Liverpool. Also, in some of the illustrations they have John Lennon still wearing the early dark Beatles suit from when they first became famous, and he's wearing the granny glasses he made famous during the later Sgt. Pepper period. These may seem like small things, but to Beatles fans they are noticeable easy mistakes.

On the other hand, I was impressed by a scandalously accurate depiction of John Lennon on stage with The Beatles in Hamburg, Germany wearing nothing but his underpants and a toilet seat around his neck!

At the back pages of the book there are actual black and white real pictures of John Lennon from various periods with a nice autobiographical write up.

John Lennon is the newest lead in this latest edition of the Little People, BIG DREAMS series by Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara. This series is such a delight and the perfect way to educate not just kids but everyone about historic and cultural icons.

Lennon was an English singer, songwriter and peace activist who gained worldwide fame as the founder, co-lead vocalist, and rhythm guitarist of the Beatles. This book follows Lennon performing at the Cavern with Paul McCartney and forming The Beatles to meeting Yoko Ono and promoting his anti-war sentiment

Octavia Bromell illustrates this installment and does a fantastic job. Bromell's' art style was so captivating and his art definitely further helped tell Lennon's story. I love collecting these books and am so thrilled to add this one to the rest of my collection.

I received this book free from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review
