With all the men spoken about in the Bible — Jesus, David, Abraham, John, Adam, Noah... — it seems right to have a book that highlights the courageous women God used throughout history — Ruth, Esther, Mary, Deborah... — however, while this book compiles all the woman (or most) found within the Word of God, it was sorely disappointing. I didn't get very far in this book — barely making a dent in the A's (the book is in alphabetical order) — because the old-fashioned theology and hearsay were too much to make me willingly continue! The author took the smallest of verses that mentioned a woman's name and stretched it out to write an "encouraging" or "uplifting" message about each woman's life. From glorifying arranged marriages (calling them romantic) to claiming that a man's vocation or title (king, for example) meant that he was a good husband, I found the author's "reflection" or "application" of these women more harmful than good.

This book is a wonderful resource and full of information about the wonderful women of the Bible. It is a fun daily read to help explore all the fascinating women in the Bible. There are many great examples of how we as women should live our daily lives and many takeaways for each of us. This would be an excellent gift and great study resource. Thank you Net Galley for the opportunity to read and review this great book.

The Top 100 Women of the Bible is a great resource in the study of God's word. These women vary in age and stature. Some are widely known, some are only mentioned in a verse or two. Some were seen as righteous, while some worked against the Kingdom of God. It was so interesting to read how the lives of each woman tied in to God's plan and how we could learn from each.

I loved this devotional-style read. It highlighted 100 different women that were mentioned in the Bible, even if not by name. The book highlighted the good and the naughty, and explained the importance of their stories. From these stories we can learn important life lessons that we can carry over into our personal lives. I loved the breakdown and easy-to-read formatting.

What an amazing resource! When I recommended this book to my friend, she said she didn't realise there were 100 women in the bible. A great summary that is actually interesting to read unlike some scripture focused books. The way Pamela McQuade explores the women's significance and how they play a wider role in the bible - especially the women who are often forgotten - is brilliant. I would recommend this book to anybody who wants to dive deeper into scripture.

This is an updated version of the previous version. It has been re-edited and a new cover added. I read this back in 2015 and again now in 2020, I loved it both times. McQuade has added some very obscure women from the Bible who do not typically get discussed. I appreciated learning so much more about these less mentioned women in addition to the very well known women in the Bible.
This is a perfect book for a Bible study either alone or with friends.

Finally! Women of the Bible recognized in one place. This book is packed full of information but does not read like a dry textbook. This is wonderful resource to learn about the women in the Bible, not just the famous example that are well known to many. Some of these women I have never even heard of, yet their names are captured in Scripture, and that made me curious to learn more about why. The entries are alphabetical and provide the Scripture where the particular woman is found. An explanation is provided to give more information about the times and background, shedding some light on the woman being discussed. Recommended for woman wanting to learn more about all the types of women mentioned in the Bible.

An amazing collection of the most influential women in the Bible. A great book to share with any woman in your life.

I realized I had read this before after seeing the other covers of this book on Goodreads. This book really is such a great gift and this cover is definitely beautiful but I think I like the older covers better.
