Ah a lovely book. Lovely images but the story of if the gingerbread man has the right house he might stay along is a very powerful message that isn’t correct. I can’t imagine reading this with an adopted child or a child who’s parents have separated. That’s an easy step towards therapy!

The Gingerbread House

by Laura Gia West

Do you like gingerbread? Laura Gia West has cooked up a sweet treat with her rhyming tale of The Gingerbread House. You’ll want to read it aloud to enjoy the rhymes. There were a few places that seemed a little forced and not as predictable as I would like to see in a children’s book. It also had a font feature at the beginning of some lines that made reading difficult for me, so I’m sure it would give trouble to a younger reader. The illustrations are bright, colorful, and fun, and I think children would enjoy reading this picture book with their favorite grown-up, especially during the Christmas season.

I would like to extend my thanks to NetGalley and to Victory Editing NetGalley Co-op for giving me the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

Every Christmas season, gingerbread men come alive. The only way to keep them around until Christmas, is through a treasured and tasty secret. If it’s done right, something special is left behind.

The Gingerbread House is a cute, funny and full of Christmas spirit children's book with a fun version of the gingerbread man's tale. It is easy to read and exceptionally fun for both children and adults alike. The illustrations are great and this is a good read-aloud storybook and perfect holiday gift.

We've been in a holiday mood as a family lately, and I read this to my nephew who absolutely loved it! Even I enjoyed the story. It's well written, very funny and so cute. Such an uplifting holiday story!

Thank you NetGalley and the author for an eARC of this book, in exchange of a honest review.

This book was very random. Not only did I not even follow the story that well, but it seemed like random things just as a "speeding degree" was thrown in there because a better rhyme could not be thought of. And I believe it suggest that gingerbread men eat flies, which is quite weird. Overall quite a pointless book that I sadly don't think even conjures up a little bit of Christmas spirit.

This is a modern retelling of the gingerbread house. Overall, I felt the book ran a little long for young children. I did appreciate the current dance moves that kids will love seeing in the book. This would be a great book to pair with baking gingerbread cookies and/or making a gingerbread house.

What a great book. Illustrations are great and very nicely written. I know my great-grandchildren will love it.

If gingerbread men are always on the run, how do you get them to settle down?
Gingerbread houses! Of Course!

This picture book has a fun and festive cover and has the potential to be good but the rhymes were a little wonky and the illustration styles don't really match. The gingerbread in this story love to dance and a modern dance move is mentioned and shown so this may appeal to a younger generation that enjoy an unconventional spin on Christmas stories!

A cute retelling of The Gingerbread Man. As it was a quick read I’m not sure it will hold children’s attention the way the original story does. This book has nice illustrations but I don’t believe that’s going to pull people in to want to read the story. All in all a cute story with not much Christmas magic.

This is a holiday picture book geared towards young readers. The illustrations are colorful and fun to look at, including the different styles of text used for different words. I will certainly order this title for my library and could see myself using it in a lesson about building gingerbread houses. Thanks to Net Galley for the ARC.

This has some cute pictures and some cute lines. Although, it doesn't fit together as nicely as I'd hoped.

I don't like how it ask "You don't want that do you? You're not. Christmas bore..." with a frowny face. Bigger is not always better. It seems more like a book to make you create gingerbread cookies, houses, and cars and on a large scale. Very commercialistic to me.

I also disliked the style of the capital letters. It made it very hard to read. Why does the capital H look like a b, S look like a Z and the Y look backwards.

Overall, I disliked this book and I had really expected to love it. I love Christmas and most Christmas books I've read. This just isn't for me and I would never read it to any of my children.

The Gingerbread House is a great twist on the classic gingerbread man story. Make him a house and maybe he'll stay. Clever with nods to current culture, but there is just something missing for me, perhaps the illustrations could have been better.

My kids loved this book. Super cute and love the characters and pictures. My kids wanted to read it again and again. I will probably surprise them and buy it for them soon. Thanks for this early review around Christmas time. Loved it!

I loved this book! This is such a cute story for Christmas and I love the idea behind the gingerbread people coming to stay in the gingerbread house that you decorate. This just makes me want to decorate a super awesome gingerbread house in the hope that a gingerbread person will stay for Christmas! The illustrations were super cute and the whole book was just so magical. It was so much fun to read!

This story takes the fable of The Gingerbread Man, updates it and adds a twist for Christmas. The gingerbread man comes to life at Christmas time and has a lot of fun. He convinces the people who made him that he needs a house, so they build him one. This is just a fun story with wonderful illustrations. The rhyming was a bit rough at times and it made it hard to keep a rhythm while reading, but the kids enjoyed this story and laughed a many of the antics the gingerbread man got up to. A cute Christmas story that little ones will enjoy. A family project of making a gingerbread house could follow the reading of this story. I was gifted a copy of this book upon request. The rating and ideas shared are my own.

Super cute and charming! I was expecting this to be a full on middle grade novel but it read like a picture book!

Either way, very cute and worth picking up for any holiday season!

The Gingerbread House picture book is perfect

Gather round, children, and let me share a darling holiday story.

Twas the month before Christmas when all through the land, there were gingerbread men who were spicy and tanned.

The Gingerbread House, a picture book by Laura Gia West, is not a redo of T’was the Night Before Christmas. But it may be one of those children’s books parents read to their small kids for generations into the future.

This is downright adorable.

In The Gingerbread House, a very special collection of, well, gingerbread men, somehow become as alive as Frosty and Olaf and dance around their snow dazzled home with the most trendy dance moves known to mankind. Seriously.

I never thought I’d laugh at a gingerbread man, reindeer, and snowman dance team dabbing.

To dab, by the way, is to drop one’s head into a bent slant, upwardly angle one arm in the opposite direction -across the front of your face – and ensure the other arm is parallel. Don’t feel bad. I had to look it up and though I thought this move was something new in 2020, it actually originated in 2015. Shows how hip I am.

But this page in The Gingerbread House is so creative and original, that it actually shows a dancing word-formation that says “dabbing through the snow.”

Written in the syntax rhythm of T’was the Night Before Christmas, this story shows children all the fun things that this gingerbread man can do when magically alive.

“He can moonwalk on shelves, can-can down a tree, do the Twist with the elves, and chicken dance until he’s free.”

Boy, this guy is active. But Mr. Gingerbread man explains that he will quit running away if his readers build him a gingerbread house.

“Now Dasher, now Dancer, now gumdrops and mints!”

By the time our young readers are through listening to this adorable tale, each reader is invited to eat Mr. Gingerbread man without fear. Before, as everyone knows, he’ll be back next year.
