When I think of romance, I think of books just like this one, that gives all the feels and satisfies every romance junkies' heart. This is a perfect books to snuggle up with on any day. Daniels s one of my favorites.

Emotional with a rich depth of love. OUT OF THE STORM is the first book in the Buckhorn, Montana series by B.J. Daniels and I loved it so much that I just added book two to my TBR pile! We're taken on a journey of finding a lost love, but there's a secondary story of mystery and danger going on at the same time that really holds your attention. My heart was stolen by great core characters and an endearing story.
Kate Jackson is loyal and caring. She lost her husband a couple of decades ago, but she's never given up hope that she would find him one day still alive. Now she thinks she's done it in small town Buckhorn, but the look-a-like she's seen is telling her she hasn't.
She's on the verge of moving forward with her life, but if there's even a small chance that it's him, she can't live with herself if she walks away.
I highly recommend this book to anyone that loves a small town romance rich with love, turmoil and a happily ever after.

Out of the Storm (Buckhorn, Montana #1). By B.J. Daniels. 2020. HQN (ARC eBook).
Twenty years after losing her husband in a refinery explosion, Kate Jackson is knocked back by a pair of brown eyes and rough, capable hands masquerading as a carpenter in a small Montana town. His scarred looks and voice are not exactly how her husband Danny looked, but it’s been years. Perhaps having car trouble on her and her fiancé’s drive from Houston to Canada wasn’t bad luck—if it’s reunited her with an amnesic Danny.
Jon Harper knows he isn’t Danny Jackson, but his own past is still murky from a car accident and deadly secrets. Because Kate’s curiosity with him is drawing too much attention, if he want’s to stay alive and not bring trouble to Buckhorn, he’ll have to skip town soon. But Kate’s fiancé, Collin, is setting off warning bells for Jon. For Kate, all is not what it seems with Jon and Collin, and she is not sure what lays ahead for her once she leaves Buckhorn.
There is a good amount of intrigue throughout Out of the Storm, and the suspense builds until the end. The building romance is well done for two lost people finding love again. And the secondary characters of Buckhorn are established well and sets the series up for revisits to the tight-knit town.

4.5 Stars
I was pulled right into this story. The story has laughs, pain, amnesia, suspense and heartbreak.
This is Kate’s story. She lost her husband twenty years ago in an explosion, but his body was never recovered, and she feels it in her heart that he is still alive. When she goes anywhere, she always searches the crowds for him. On a trip she sees him. He’s still her Danny (but goes by Jon) but he is covered in scars and does not know her. He feels a pull to her but does not remember her. He can also feel the danger that surrounds her. Can he protect her? What happens when secrets are revealed? Will they have a second chance at forever? Or will she be lost to danger?
I loved these characters. This book had a ton of laughs. I felt I was able to connect with the characters and the story was a great read.
I highly recommend this book and can’t wait for the next story from this author.

Great start to a new series by B.J. Daniels. I really enjoy her work. This one is very good and I can't wait to read more in the series.

Thank you Net-Galley, publisher and author for the copy of this book.
This is the first book in a new series by the author. I love that it takes place mostly in Montana. Packed with lies, secrets, kidnapping, suspense this book will keep you captivated until the very end. I was on edge needing to know what was going to happen. Not wanting to put it down, not wanting the story to end.
Kate lost her husband 20 years ago in an explosion at work. She is finally moving on and after dating Collin for several months she agrees to marry him. Never seeing snow before he plans an engagement trip. Not all is what it seems. Nothing goes as planned. Car brakes down in Buckhorn Montana and they are stuck for a short time.
On a walk through the small town Kate hears the high pitch squeal of a table saw which reminds her of her father so she looks towards the sounds and sees a carriage house and is drawn to it. The wood scent and sound of the sander has her going in and she sees a man that reminds her of her dead husband. This has happened before. She is drawn to him and goes back again and again not making Collin happy in fact his true colors come out quickly and the real reason of this trip become clear.

This was once again another great book by B J Daniels. This is the beginning of a new series and I cannot wait to read more. This book focuses on Kate and Jon. Jon has lost his memory. Kate is engaged to Danny to move on. However Jon is very much like her missing husband.

This book was quite honestly everything I expected and more. I felt that the author did an incredible job of crafting a storyline that kept you eagerly turning pages and feeling completely emotionally invested in the outcome of it all. My heart received quite the workout as this angsty, suspenseful, emotional and dramatic read pummeled it with waves of loss, hope, twists, action and danger. If you enjoy a meatier book that also provides a richness of feels you're going to want to settle in and sink your teeth into this one for sure. I loved it and can't wait to head back to Buckhorn ASAP for book two.

Out of the Storm is a suspenseful, edge of your seat, mystery and second chance romance. Kate Jackson's husband, Daniel, was declared dead after a refinery explosion twenty years ago. She raised their two daughters as a single mom and is finally ready to begin her life again. She is engaged to Collin and is going on an engagement trip to Canada mixing business, pleasure and wedding plans (they are picking up Kate's wedding dress). When a storm in Montana causes them to hunker down for awhile due to car damage and needing new parts, Kate stumbles upon Jon Harper, a carpenter who she is sure is her husband, Daniel. Collin cannot let this happen, he has things to do and plans for Kate.
This is the first book in the Buckhorn, Montana series and boy, did it pack a punch. There was so much suspense in this story. Throw in someone with amnesia, syndicate members putting a bounty on someone's head, kidnapping, drugs, crossing international boundaries, threatening family and some people with some very interesting government connections and you know that you will be taken on a ride. I was on the edge of my seat while reading this one and I was not disappointed at any time. The characters are strong, loyal, loving and willing to put their lives on the line for those they love. I was rooting for Kate and Jon from the first time they met and I was happy to see that Collin will get what he deserves. I enjoyed meeting some of the other characters in Buckhorn and am hoping that their stories will be told in future books in this series. This is one I definitely recommend if you enjoy second chance, feel good romances with some action and suspense

This is a contemporary romantic suspense in which Kate Jackson has finally agreed to marry her persistent ‘boyfriend’, Collin, deciding to take a chance again, after twenty years of waiting for her beloved husband, Daniel, to return. Daniel was declared dead after being involved in a huge refinery explosion but she’s never believed it. Collin takes her on a special engagement trip to let her see and feel snow for the first time but their vehicle breaks down and they end up staying in Buckhorn, Montana. Whilst there she meets Jon Harper and she’s convinced this quiet, reticent carpenter is her Danny. Jon isn’t convinced by her – and neither is Collin. However, the situation dramatically changes Collin’s attitudes and actions . . . Should she stay with Collin or take a chance on Jon?
This is a suspense filled story, packed with mystery, intrigue, secrets and lies. It is fraught with double dealing and danger skilfully mixed with a heartwarming romance. The story is a roller coaster ride, full of twists and turns to keep you guessing. The main setting of Buckhorn is brilliantly portrayed and there are some superb secondary characters, other potential romances and a real sense of community. This is the first story in a new series set in Buckthorn and I can’t wait to return there again.
Thanks to Harlequin and NetGalley for my copy of this book which I voluntarily read and have honestly reviewed.

This is a little Different from other B.J. Daniels books. It has the elements you would expect but they are mixed a little differently. You can look for romance and tension and danger. The ending is a little unexpected but fits the story line. Love last forever is the big theme.

What a great start to a new series! I couldn't put it down!
It's got it all: romance, suspense, action, and family all packed into non-stop fun. It's a story about true love and knowing to rely on your instincts and strengths to direct your actions. From Texas and Montana in the USA to Saskatchewan, Canada you will be glued to the story in anticipation of what will happen next.
One of the best books I've read by BJ Daniels. Now have to wait until March 2021 for the next book in the series!
I received a free ARC eBook from Net Galley and the publisher in exchange for my honest opinions.

Good start to the new series. It opens as Kate receives a proposal of marriage from the man she dated for the past six months. Although she accepts Collin's ring, she can't help having reservations. Twenty years earlier, Kate lost the love of her life, Danny, in a refinery explosion. His body was never identified, and she always believed that he was still alive, possibly suffering from amnesia. She still looks for his face wherever she goes, hoping that he's alive. Despite those reservations, she accepts Collin's proposal, prepared to finally move on with her life. When Collin springs a surprise engagement trip on her, she quickly loses her enthusiasm for the journey when they break down in the middle of a blizzard. Stranded in the tiny town of Buckhorn while they wait for parts, Kate is stunned when she spots Danny, even though he insists his name is Jon and he doesn't know her.
Kate's life suddenly becomes very complicated. On the one hand, she's sure that Jon is Danny; she just needs to convince him of the fact. On the other hand, she has a fiancé who is not at all happy about this blast from Kate's past. Kate doesn't know that Collin has ulterior motives, both for their engagement and this trip. He won't allow anything to interfere with his plans.
I enjoyed watching the relationship between Kate and Jon develop. She is dead sure that Jon is Danny and spends every possible minute she can with him, telling him stories of their life together, of their two daughters, and their lives since his disappearance. Jon enjoys hearing the stories, and though he wishes otherwise, he is sure that he isn't Danny. He can't tell her the truth about why but he can't deny that he is drawn to her. After a couple of run-ins with Collin, Jon's instincts tell him that the man is dangerous.
This is where the suspense of the story picks up the pace. Kate wants to stay in Buckhorn and spend more time with Jon, but Collin's situation grows more perilous with each day. Desperate to get Kate away from Jon, Collin takes steps that could put a bulls-eye on Jon's back. Meanwhile, Kate's youngest daughter is taken hostage to ensure Kate's cooperation. I liked how Kate kept her head and managed to warn Jon about his danger. Jon gets some unexpected help from his friend, Earl Ray, as he prepares to go after Kate and Collin. I was glued to the pages through the multiple twists until it was all over. The only thing to figure out was how Kate and Jon could be together. I wasn't too surprised by the how, but the process was very complicated. I loved the ending.
I enjoyed the time spent in Buckhorn and look forward to future books in the series. I loved how the entire town got into the relationship between Jon and Kate. The scenes in the café with everyone crowded around the window were fun. My favorite character is Earl Ray, who initially appears to be just your run-of-the-mill mountain town resident. It doesn't take long to discover that there is much more to him, and I can't wait to learn more.

I was hoping to like the romance but there are just too many POVs for me in the first pages, and I don't want to read the sexual content.

Slam dunk on second chance at love!
Oh my what an amazing first book in to this new series A Buckhorn, Montana series. (Book 2 is scheduled for February 23, 2021) of course always subject to change I saw the dates on Amazon. However when you get into a amazing new series I’m always ready for the next book.
This book will have you nearly in tears from the very beginning. He’s broke, she never wanted to believe he was gone but even after all these years she knows it’s him. So many un answered questions. So much pain. The writing is flawless, and the words are so captivating, the plot had so many twists and turns and none that I was expecting, and many shocking moments. I really enjoyed this book and it kept me engrossed throughout. I really loved the characters and the way they interacted with each other. This is a fun, hot, romantic must read book and I would definitely recommend this book to anyone.
Authors Blurb: One look at his warm brown eyes and Kate Jackson knows she’s found her husband. It’s been twenty years since Daniel was declared dead in a refinery explosion, but Kate never gave up hope, convinced he was somewhere out there, suffering from amnesia. Then, on a trip to Buckhorn, Montana, she sees him—working as a carpenter, scarred, but still her Danny. Yet Jon Harper, as he calls himself, insists he’s a stranger.
Jon is certain he’s not the man Kate’s looking for. Though some of his memories are lost in shadow, how could he ever forget a woman like that? One thing Jon’s instinct does tell him is that she’s in danger from the very person she should trust most. Helping loyal, lovely Kate will mean exposing his own perilous past…but it’s the only way to protect her and this new chance at forever…
This book has everything I love in a book. Then you add that it's beautifully written and believable. It is easily a five star read. Written in dual POV my personal favorite this story flows so incredibly well that the next thing you know your 80% into the book and loving every second of it. The believable way the characters interact is perfect. Run, Hop, Jump or use your (1 click) finger to do whatever you have to do and get this amazing book. It'll break your heart, you'll want to scream with frustration and it'll let you discover that love just might conquer all. The chemistry is steamy and sweet and oh so romantic.
Thanks Netgally for letting me read and review.📚💕

This is one of those that will do its best to tear you up and put you back together again. Cases of amnesia are funny things and they soon have us on pins and needles hoping for any glimmer. Kate does not give up because her heart knows. Daniel on the other hand is someone else named Jon. As we follow the two looking for answers, watching the shadows, seeing of they lift at some light. Danger also seeps from the shadows coming for her making him make a move. All the intrigue and it will uncover what and whom should be watched and who can be trusted. For the beginning of a new series we are given a humdinger as the old saying goes.

Kate was only a teenager when she fell in love with Danny but that didn’t mean that it wasn’t enduring and true. When her husband was believed to have passed away due to a workplace accident she found herself a widow and a single mother to two young children. She picked up the pieces of her life and two decades later is engaged to another man but she has never forgotten her first love.
Collin is Kate’s fiancé and he has arranged a road trip through Montana to Canada to pick up a wedding dress he ordered for her. When they find themselves stranded in Buckhorn, it may be the best thing that could have happened to her, but it is the worst thing that could have happened to him. She believes that one of residents may be her husband but uncovering the truth could have devastating consequences for everyone.
This story takes us on an action packed adventure filled with intrigue, surprises and a love that can overcome anything.

Thrilling suspense rocks this soulmates love story!
Kate allows herself to be swept along by her attentive new fiancé as he takes her on an ill-fated road trip through Montana in winter. A random stop waylays their plans when she happens upon a man who is a dead ringer for her late husband. Thus starts a chain of events that quickly spirals out of control, unearthing secrets galore and culminating in an explosive fight to survive.
Every page of this book kept me hanging on the edge of my seat. So many twists and turns, so many surprises! The bad guy is about as evil as they come when judging by his actions, yet the author manages to imbue him with a surprising amount of sympathy and compassion. Justice is served in the end, yet one still can't help feeling sad that it had to work out that way.
Kate does find the love story she's been longing for, and rest assured that all the loose ends and nagging questions are wrapped up nicely. The writing is deeply moving, insightful, and gripping throughout the story. The romance builds gradually but the strength of their hearts is evident from the start in both the main characters. The HEA is well worth the wait.
The author clearly intends to visit this Buckhorn community again as we're introduced to a wide variety of locals whose intertwined lives leave us with plenty of questions for future books. I really enjoyed this story and look forward to reading more. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

An entertaining book ... too far fetched for me though.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing an arc in exchange for my honest review.

Out of the Storm by B.J. Daniels is the first novel in her new Buckhorn, Montana series, and what a way to start a new series this is, because this novel is packed with more heart, more longing, more heartfelt emotion, and more edge-of-your-seat suspense than any of the other B.J. Daniels novels I've read to date. It gets 5 "I-couldn't-put-it-down" stars from this reader.
Kate Jackson is a 39 year-old widow living in Houston, Texas. She married the love of her young life, Danny, when she was just 17, and he 19. Danny worked at an oil refinery, which exploded two years after their marriage, leaving Kate a very young widow with 2 infants to raise. The explosion was so devastating that many of the bodies were burned, making it impossible to identify them, and many of the survivors were left with amnesia. Danny's body was never found, but Kate knew in her heart that he couldn't be dead, although her searches at every hospital that victims were taken to turned up nothing.
Fast-forward 20 years, Kate's daughters are grown, and Kate has finally met and dated a man she really likes, Collin, finally accepting his marriage proposal after knowing him for 6 months. He's sprung a surprise engagement trip to Montana, with a stop in Canada, on Kate so she can finally see snow and fulfill her dream of making snow angels.
En route, their rental car breaks down during a blizzard, and they are forced to spend several days in a seedy motel in tiny Buckhorn, Montana, waiting to get their rental car repaired, with Collin becoming increasingly anxious, since there's more to his side trip to Canada than making snow angels. He tells Kate that he's ordered her wedding gown and after meeting up with several business associates, they'll pick up her gown and head back across the border to continue their trip.
While taking a walk through Buckhorn, Kate hears a sander buzzing, a sound she's quite familiar with--her father was a woodworker, and she follows the sound to an old carriage house, and actually faints when she first sets eyes on the man inside--it's Danny, although he tells her his name is Jon Harper and denies being her late husband, she's convinced it's him, and she keeps coming back to his shop, and when she gets a good look as his eyes, she's totally convinced it's him, and it's here that the trouble really begins.
Collin is not what he pretends to be. He has an ulterior motive for this engagement trip, as well as for his marriage to Kate, and it's a dangerous motive. Jon Harper also has secrets he's keeping. He's lived in Buckhorn for 5 years, keeping to himself and for good reason, but Kate's belief that he's her Danny, and the stories she tells him about her marriage and her 20 years of awaiting his return really get to him. Is her her lost husband or isn't he? Why would Collin order his fiance a wedding gown without her ever seeing it or trying it on? And if those questions don't hook you into this story, I don't know what will.
Told with great depth of character and plenty of deeply-felt emotion, this novel grabbed me from the very beginning and never let go for a single second. As romances go, this novel is a gem, and as for suspense, Out of the Storm has it in spades. I have no idea how Ms. Daniels is going to top this fabulous novel in the subsequent novels in this series, but I cannot wait to find out!
I voluntarily read an advanced reader copy of this novel. The opinions stated are my own.
