Out of the Storm, the first book in the Buckhorn, Montana series, is one of the most emotional and action packed stories I have read in a while.
Kate Jackson became a widow twenty years ago when an explosion in his place of work supposedly killed her young husband. His body was never recovered and she has always felt he is still alive.
But life went on and now that her daughters are adults, she’s gotten engaged and is on a surprise trip with her fiance.
When they stop in Buckhorn, Montana to get their rental repaired , Kate sees Jon, a man with her husband’s eyes.
The twists and turns in this story will have you on the edge of your seat. The fiance has an ulterior motive, Jon is hiding from danger, but realizing that Kate might be in danger, is determined to keep her safe.
The story was engaging from the first page to the last and the characters well developed. In the middle of the action packed plot, there are times that your heart will break for Kat and Jon.
I can’t wait to read more stories by this author.
I was entrusted a copy of this book by Netgalley and Harlequin. The opinions expressed are solely my own.

Out of the Storm by B.J. Daniels Emotional and action packed, the story features well developed characters in Kate and Collin, as well as the mysterious Jon. Beautiful descriptive passages of the landscape and the snowstorms Ms. Daniels has created another small town community to look forward in revisiting in this, the first of the Bucktown Montana series, and glimpses of the town's major players sparks an interest in learning more about them.

Thank you to the publisher, author, and NetGalley for the opportunity to preview the book.

Out of the Storm by B.J. Daniels is a taut suspense about Kate, a 40-year-old woman who has been a widow for 20 years. She’d been unable to establish a new relationship until she met Collin. His persistence and kindness wore down her belief that her husband survived a tragic explosion that killed and injured hundreds. Daniels plants seeds of hope that Danny, Kate’s first love, might still be alive alongside uneasy feelings about Collin. This story’s suspense is riveting and the longing for lost love, heart-breaking. I hated getting to the last page.

The first book in the Buckhorn, Montana series, Out of the Storm packed a suspenseful punch with secrets, lies, kidnapping, betrayal, and layers of intrigue. The story follows Kate Jackson, a woman who lost her husband Danny in a work explosion. Though twenty years have passed, Kate never lost hope that Danny might be alive somewhere. Everyone told her to move on, but Kate couldn’t and solely focused on raising her daughters. Now, newly engaged and tentatively starting over with her fiancée Collin, Kate is stunned when she sees a man who looks exactly like Danny.

Jon knows that he is not Kate’s long-lost husband, but his past isn’t clear. What secrets is Jon hiding? And why is Collin so insistent that Jon is not Danny and that he and Kate must leave and cross the Canadian border? Jon might not remember all of his past, but he knows that he must do whatever it takes to protect this lovely woman from danger, even if it means revealing who he is.

I really enjoyed this action-packed, emotion-filled romance. The characters are well-developed, especially Kate, who is a devoted mother, a successful writer, and a strong woman. Kate loves her husband, and her unfailing loyalty and devotion to him are powerful. She loved Danny with everything she had, so when she sees a man that she thinks is Danny, you can imagine the reaction.

Dealing with her conflicting emotions about living in the past or looking toward the future, as well as finding out the true motivations of someone close to her, proves difficult and dangerous. Kate is so torn between her love for her first husband and her future with Collin, especially because she feels deep down that Danny is still alive.

The secondary characters are well-layered too. Jon, the quiet and solitary woodworker who might be Danny, is intriguing, and I was fascinated by his story. Several locals prove loyal and indispensable to Jon’s cause, and I’m eager to see some of these hard-working and helpful people of Buckhorn, Montana in future books in the series.

There are many twists and turns in Out of the Storm, which makes for a gripping and intriguing read. Plus, the love story is fantastic! I highly recommend this novel to readers who enjoy contemporary romantic suspense with great characters. Thanks so much to Netgalley, Harlequin, and the author for a copy of the book in exchange for my honest review.

Leave it to B.J. Daniels to get your heart pumping and your mind racing from page one. She has you on the edge from the very onset of her new book OUT OF THE STORM. No one does adventure, chaos and intrigue better than B.J. Daniels. Which is just one of the reasons I seek out stories written by her. OUT OF THE STORM is rich with some really creepy characters. Perhaps it’s just the way these characters are described but in short order you realize that a few of them are going to earn your trust. And in saying that you have to admit that the main character Kate should be very wary.
So the original premise is that newly engaged Kate is being swept away on an adventure by her fiancé Collin. According to Collin Kate has regaled him with stories of places and experiences that she never had the chance for in her life as a young widowed single mother of two daughters. Kate has spent her entire life making sure her girls are okay after the tragic death of her young husband Danny. Candidly Kate has never really recovered from her grief over his death and her chance spotting of him over the years.
Kate is a young thirty nine whose daughters are now fully grown. It is time for her to recharge her own personal life. And Collin is the first man who has caught her attention making her laugh and perhaps make her start taking some chances.
In OUT OF THE STORM we are immediately chagrinned at the engagement and once Kate and Collin are on their way to a snow adventure a rather creepy incessant wariness prevails. Again B.J. Daniels weaving a tale like no one else.
As with all B.J. Daniels stories there is an immediate connection in OUT OF THE STORM which becomes the ultimate page turner.
In OUT OF THE STORM we are reminded that heroes come in all types and sizes. And in Buckhorn Montana there is a mass of heroes in this small town that barely ekes out an existence in the winter months. But that is where Kate and Collin wind up in a snowstorm and where this story takes an unexpected turn.
Kate considers herself a good judge of characters and surely has a good head on her shoulders considering the fact that she has done well for herself and her daughters for the last twenty years. But somehow she let Collin slip into her life. Kate was looking for someone to fill that empty space left by her husband and Collin was caring and fun.
Wolf in sheep’s clothing. B.J. Daniels has the ability to render you speechless in her story telling and OUT OF THE STORM is just another example. If nothing else in OUT OF THE STORM you learn to never judge a book, person or town by its cover.
OUT OF THE STORM is a killer of a romance and I can promise you a very satisfying conclusion in B.J. Daniels latest book.

4.5 stars. This book was so much more than I expected. I was very entertained by this story from start to finish. It was so easy to become totally invested in what was going on in Kate’s life. From people turning out to be nothing like she thought they were to others turning out to be exactly what she hoped for. There sure were some intense and emotional moments in this story. .
Another wonderful BJ Daniels book! I absolutely loved it!
