I went into this not realizing it was part of a series and read it before reading the first.
I liked it just fine, but I need to revisit after reading the first.

Since this a sequel to A God in the Shed I don’t want to say too much to avoid spoilers. This picks up right where A God in the Shed left off. It’s twists & turns kept my interest all the way to the end. Definitely recommend!!

Song of the Sandman is the much anticipated sequel to A God in the Shed. It picks up not long after the massacre at the circus; and follows Venus, Daniel, and Abraham as they navigate the wreckage left by then being God touched. It also introduces us to Alice, a young abductee who has a much bigger purpose than anyone could have guessed. Who are the Sandmen and what is their endgame? How will they come into contact with our main 3 and what disasters await?

This....freaking....book. I absolutely adore both this novel and A God in the Shed. I'm absolutely starved for more and can't wait to see what comes next. Song of the Sandman builds more into the story of the God and it's desire for violence and chaos while opening up new avenues of adventure to be explored. It's a gory good time that you can't put down and never want to end. The characters are insanely well written and the pacing leaves you holding on for dear life and you're flung trough twists and turns that will excite.

Five stars and a top notch recommendation for any horror fans out there. You're only hurting yourself if you let these books pass you by. Recommended for 17+ as the violence is graphic and unrelenting.

The long awaited sequel to A God in the Shed has finally arrived! Song of the Sandman pulls you right back into story where A God in the Shed left off. Venus, a teen who had lost it all, is hell bent on finding the truth and take down the evil that took it all from her. Along with her friends, she dives into the secrets that destroyed her world.

J-F Dubeau did a great job continuing Venus’ story. The development of the plot and characters was really well done. The twists and turns of the book kept me reading and wanting more. Song of the Sandman was worth the wait!

Did the first book leave you hanging? Well, it's time for for some more! The characters are back, suitably changed from the events of the last book. Lots of action and gore, as expected. I enjoyed it over all and it wraps up pretty well but... still hanging again! More please.

Song of the Sandman by J.F. Dubeau is a dark and cult based story. The plot is good with an ancient God and its cult. Although, the story demands a sequel to clear up the plot. I like the book cover, totally symmetrical with the title. To understand the story to full extent, you need to read the first part, The God in the Shed. But still I liked the story and characters. And, I would strongly recommend a sequel as the climax was truly enthralling.

I have been waiting 3 years for this sequel! God In A Shed (1st book) has stuck with me all this time. I think about that book on a at least monthly basis. It's a story I compare all other similar concepts to. And none have done it better (aka "The Shed" a movie that is on Shudder)
When I saw the sequel was coming out and it was on NetGalley, I quite literally screamed.

Song Of The Sandman picks up 2 months after the events of the circus. It had been a bit since I read the 1st book but I was able to get up to speed quickly and dive into the story.

"The worst part about the worst things is that it can happen to anybody." The first lines of this book had me giddy. I knew just by the first paragraph it was going to be good.

The gore and horror had me fully engrossed. The characters are so easy to root for and you only want the answers to the onslaught of questions.
The only reason it wasn't a 5 is because I wanted a bit more lore building regarding the god. There are small hints at other gods and the original group finding something but it doesn't go as far as I was expecting.
I want book 3 but I don't want to wait another 3 years! Give it to me now!
I envy those who get to read the first book and jump directly into this one.

This series has so much I love. Characters you care for, glorious bloody destruction and a villain you crave to see win it all.
Plenty of fun twists and a ending I'm still grappling with.

Read "A God In A Shed" just before you get this book in October and delight in the carnage and many uses and descriptions of bodily fluids.

This was very difficult to follow. I didn’t realize when I started this that it was the second book of a trilogy. Unfortunately, I haven’t yet read its predecessor so I can only speak for this installment. The author’s writing style was engaging and I enjoyed the atmospheric feel. I always enjoy books and movies involving cults. I was intrigued enough to finish it and I’ll give the first book, God in a Shed, a look for sure.

Song of the Sandman is the follow up to my favorite book of 2017, A God in the Shed by J.-F. Dubeau from Inkshares. This second in his dark trilogy picks up shortly after the shocking ending of the first book.
The prologue introduces Alice, who is being held by the Church of the Sandman, the mysterious organization puppeteering events throughout the first novel. This group has somehow managed to subdue the malevolent god, a being that the young protagonists, Venus, Penny, Daniel, and Abe are still trying to understand.
While the first half of Song of the Sandman has moments of action the plot builds slowly as questions are raised and the clues begin to fall into place. Additional new characters are introduced and become integral to the growing web cast by the Church of the Sandman. This allows the cast of characters, particularly those from the first book, to grow and develop naturally.
The second half is non-stop action. All of the main characters are spurred into action. Seemingly separate storylines converge and collide in the same physical location. Initially, confused as to how all directions spun to point in the same direction, it quickly becomes clear as how the pieces have fit together.
Dubeau, like in A God in the Shed, provides a gruesome climax that answers some questions, but at the close, there are new and more that can only be answered by the final book in the trilogy.

I've read reviews on the Song of the Sandman and after reading them I am going to buy the book before this one to get a better feel for the characters!
This is my first time doing this sort of thing and I hope the publisher doesn't mind!
But after reading the other(s) I will jump right into this book!
I honestly want to get the whole experience of the entire read!

This one ended up being a DNF for me. I didn’t realize that this was a sequel and felt so lost trying to read it. At about 25% in I finally gave up. Other than it being a sequel the jumping back and forth between POV was also very confusing.

I just couldn’t get into this .
It’s just wasn’t for me I guess but I am sure some people will like it.

I feel like moving forward net galley should make people more aware when arcs are put out if they are a part of a series and which book number it is in the series. I would not have asked for this if i known and would have aimed to read the first book ( a god in a shed) first. That said even without having read the first book, this was still an enjoyable read. It was a bit wordy and could have used a bit less. I like keeping it simple, not trying to overcomplicate things. There was also alot of character points of view to follow. At times I felt like I needed to write a list of the characters and who they were to keep track of them all. Maybe a family tree map type picture in the front of the book would help.. it was also hard to form any attachment to the characters, I usually enjoy books with more than one point of view, but this just had too many to follow.

I was looking for some horror novels on Netgalley with a gory atmosphere and that's when I saw this one. I'm so happy that I requested this title because I loved the way this book was executed. Yes, this book is a sequel and I have not read the novel preceding this one, but I definitely plan to read it. I think that would help me to understand this world better.

The writing flow was easy and understandable. Nothing felt rushed. The author successfully builds up a mystery, and presents us with a was totally satisfying ending where many of the questions raised throughout this novel get answered.

I'm looking forward to reading the next installment in this series! Many thanks to the author and the publisher for providing me with a review copy via Netgalley. All opinions are my own.

When I was scouring blog posts about horror novels to check out in 2021, I came across this one. Like many other reviewers, I got the ARC before I realized that it was a sequel, and immediately read a copy of God in the Shed.

Song of the Sandman reads a bit more like a thriller than God in the Shed, which I think works really well for the expansion of the world.

In this installment we are mostly following the situation around the Church of the Sandman and I'm an absolutely sucker for any story with a cult.

This novel answers a lot of questions that I was left with at the end of the GitS, and introduces us to some new characters and magic around the containment of the terrifying god. I'm really impressed with this since the idea of art, in it's many different forms, as a vessel for magic is really compelling.

AND THE GORE. There are some incredibly visceral bloody sequences.

I can't wait to see where this series goes next.

I chose to DNF this title. Early in the novel I felt there was much mentioned in the past that was heavily implied to be already known to the reader. When I got the light bulb moment that this may be a sequel title, a quick search verified this to be true. The writing style was engaging, and what I read of the story drew me in; simply put I would really like to read this story from the beginning. I will look into reading and reviewing this and the first title in this series, A God in the Shed, after the April release. If I been aware that this was part of a series that I had not read, I would not have requested and wasted a review slot. I apologize to everyone involved, author, publisher and NetGalley. I'm hoping by honestly reviewing both titles later this year will in some way make up for not reviewing this title now.

I rated this book at 3/5 stars for a few reasons. The first thing is that I felt like there were times when it was a bit wordy and could have used a bit less. I am more of a fan of keeping it simple, not trying to overcomplicate things. The second issue I had was there seemed to be too many character points of view to follow. At times I felt like I needed to write a list of the characters and who they were to keep track of them all. Third, I struggled to form any attachment to the characters, and quite a few of them just seemed rather bland. I usually enjoy books with more than one point of view, but this just had too many to follow.

I did enjoy the book and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys dark storylines involving cults and several points of view; it just wasn’t my cup of tea.

In this sequel of A God in the Shed, we follow the events and characters so it is important to first read the first book in order to be able to follow up with the events here.

The first book offers a creepy, atmospheric story that will keep you engaged and I was glad to see that we got the same style, the same engagement and enjoyment in this second installment in which will be a trilogy.

This book does a great job of answering a lot of the questions and cliffhangers left from the first book. With some nice gore and easy to read, this is a great horror book that promises to end with a bang in the last book.

One of my favorite things about this book is that the story is told by many different points of view, keeping tabs on some of the characters from the first book, as well as introducing some new ones. The God is more fleshed out in this novel. And that makes it all the more terrifying.

I really enjoyed this author's style of writing. Thank you to Netgalley for the opportunity to read early.
