While a little light on the action, Sweet & Bitter Magic more than makes up for it with romantic tension. I'm sure many of you at some point will yell out loud, "just do it already!" I don't mean "it", I mean not only accepting the fact that you are falling for someone, that your heart is showing you the way, but then having the courage to follow it.

That concept takes up a lot of page space in this book as the two leads spend an enormous amount of time avoiding what becomes quickly obvious, that Tamsin and Wren are meant for each other. Is it incredibly saccharine? Yes. Will you love every single second of it? Yes.

I love the idea that "heartless" is more than just an emotional state, it's a physical one as well, one that applies to all things that can bring joy to someone's life. That can of course not only mean romantic love, but it also means smells, sights, sounds, all the external stimuli that make life worth living sometimes. That's Tamsin's current "condition", her curse, because of reasons.

Wren on the other hand lives for these things but has denied herself some of the more important things in life such as falling in love and finding your place in this big, big world. Again, this is because of reasons but she's not without coping mechanisms and tics, something that was subtle but I appreciated about her character.

You'll read this book quickly as the content is pleasing and the pace is swift, but I will say the book takes a bit to wrap things up and saunters to the finish line. The good news is you won't really care, because the more time spent in this world the better.
