I had Goosebumps when I was reading The Poet by Lisa Renee Jones. It's a thrilling ride with lots of twists and turns at every corner.

I would give it Six Stars and gonna jump to The Girl Who Forgot.

I’ve had this book on myTBR list for a long time and now I’m mad I didn’t read it sooner. What a fantastic book!

Lisa masterfully takes you on an and venture full of twists and turns…I thought I had it figured out. But, nope, she twisted it right at the end.

Throughout most of the book my heart was pounding and I couldn’t put the book down because I wanted to found out who it was!

Fantastic read!

This would have been such an amazing story had there not been so many plot holes/unexplained parts where things were just thrown at us with no reasoning. Sometimes I felt like the book skipped ahead and I was missing some pages. It just felt really weird when they happened.

This was the first book I have read by this author and it will not be the last, I thought the storyline and premise were great and found myself getting lost in this and flying through the pages

The Poet is an exciting, heart throbbing, and gripping wild train ride of a story about a serial killer nicknamed “Poet” because of the creepy poetic messages left behind at crime scenes. Get your hands on this one!

This is the first time I’ve read a book by Lisa Renee Jones, but it will not be the last time. Once you pick up this book be prepared to not put it down until you are finished reading it. Because it is that fantastic. Get it and read this true page turner! You won’t be sorry!

The Poet grabbed my attention with the cover and the blurb. The blurb had set my expectations for a suspenseful and twisty thriller, but in turn, it was more of police procedural than anything else. It was not bad, just not what I had anticipated.

A serial killer, nicknamed "The Poet," is on the loose and leaves behind poems as his signature. Detective Samantha Jazz is called in to take over the case as she has a bit of a background in poems from her college years.

The books flips back and forth between views from both Sam and The Poet. It was interesting to see how Sam takes this case on, digs into things, and tries to figure out who it is. Her "spidey sense" and her process of going through the case file are quite detailed and you can tell that the author did a lot of research in this area to make it more authentic and true to life.

While I enjoyed the book, it was bit a slow, with very little suspense in terms of a thriller. I enjoyed walking through the aspects of how a detective works a case, their nuances and how they piece everything together. There isn't a lot of action but again – this book was definitely more police procedure and not focused on the killer and his actions.

Overall, it's a good read and one I enjoyed reading, despite wanting more thriller aspects added in. I am looking forward to the next book in this series.

A big thank you to the Author Lisa Renee Jones, the publisher, and NetGalley for providing me an ARC in exchange for my candid review.

Excellent Book. A smart serial killer squares up against an equally bright female Homicide detective in Austin, TX. It is a cat and mouse story which is told both from the perspective of the savvy detective Sam Jazz and the serial killer dubbed "The Poet".

It is an excellent read and I could not put it down. I heartily recommend it.

Jones' The Poet is yet another story of a serial killer who leaves poetry clues being chased by a wine-sipping woman detective, Samantha Jazz. Her narrative alternates between issues with her mother and her methods of compiling and sorting through clues.

#1 in a new detective series book. This will keep you guessing to the end. A missing colleague and a stalker. There’s a serial killer out there….by who is it? Fast paced and compulsive and a strong 4/5. Look forward to #2.

Wow. What an intense and interesting story The Poet was. Lisa Renee Jones shows us another side of her writing capabilities. Fans of hers may be a little surprised that this has absolutely no romance in it. It’s a mystery, a suspense filled story that will have you turning page after page until the end and then you will want more. What do I want after reading this? I want the love story of Detective Samantha Jazz and Special Agent Wade Miller. I have a feeling that it would be an interesting and intriguing story.

But, back to The Poet. Like I said … intense. You really never knew where this story was going. There were always plot twists that had me scratching my head and wondering where and why the story was going to go. Was I surprised. Damn straight I was. But, there is no way that I am giving anything away in this review. In fact, with all the developments in this story, I am not even going to attempt a synopsis. You will have to read this book in order to understand just what I am talking about.

Now, there are some things throughout the story that are classic Lisa Renee Jones. Her characters. A strong woman that is determined to catch a killer. A man that knows how to support her, stand by her side and take care of her at the same time. A supporting cast that enhances the story, brings it together and makes it whole. And, finally, a story line that is filled with suspense and intrigue and that will leave you breathless.

This book had me guessing right until the end. It started off very slow but it changed very quickly. Lots of suspects to choose from and I connected to the story.

Suspenseful with an ending I didn’t expect. A great book for psychological thriller fans and a page turner from start to finish.

I liked this story for the most part. There were some thing s that left me perturbed, which I will not get into to avoid providing spoilers. Samantha Jazz has the potential to be an interesting, flawed and complex character. The author has yet to reveal the hopefully many layers of her character. I hope future books will be more detailed. The mystery itself was satisfactory though a bit predictable in execution. I would read another book from this series to see how Samantha evolves in her personal and professional life..

The Poet. He/she leaves notes with each victim, in their mouths. When the investigator in charge of the case disappears, Samantha Jazz takes over the investigation. Once she’s on the case, the notes seem to be aimed at luring her in… could she be his ultimate goal? She knows poetry, Ana as the investigation continues, she may know who the killer is.

This is not a love story. It is a police procedural story. Be aware of that going in. I love romance, but I also love mystery and suspense,. I loved this!

Lisa Renee Jones is an excellent writer. I enjoy reading her work, and she always leaves me wanting more.
