I have always been a really big fan of this Twisted Tales Series, and this one did nothing to change my mind. Although this was not my favorite book that I've read from this series, I still really liked this one. It brought a new depth of character to someone from the Disney film who I feel deserved more of a highlight. It totally did not disappoint.

I loved this book! I mean Meg is definitely one of my favorite Disney characters of all time and to get a book that is about her going on a quest to become a god? Sign me up. I got to see all my favorite characters and got to see Meg in action and see all that she was willing to do to be with Hercules.

Another great addition to the Twisted Tales series! I’ve never read a Hercules retelling before this but I think I will be finding more!

I loved following Meg on her quest to become a God to be with Hercules. This was such a fun book to read and made my Disney-loving heart happy. It was so much fun to see all of the characters from the movie show up in this book and learn what they had been up to in the meantime. I really enjoyed this book!

Hercules is one of my favorite Disney Movies. When I heard the 'A Twisted Tales' series was making a book based off Hercules, I had to read it. Go the Distance is the first book I have read in the 'A Twisted Tales' series. The plot is so well-written that I was able to understand more about Megara's past. I really love this book. Now, I'm gonna have to finish reading all the books in this series.

I loved this spin on a classic. It was great to read and see Meg grow as a person but also kept that sassy attitude she is known for. Overcoming obstacles to prove her love for Hercules and be admitted to Olympus. Would highly recommend!

I thoroughly enjoyed Go the Distance! It felt like a Hercules sequel and really made me want to watch the movie. I enjoyed the additional mythology stories being woven in and referenced throughout Meg's journey. I think what kept this from being a 5 star read for me was the writing feeling like it was more Middle Grade than Young Adult at times. However, Jen Calonita perfectly captured the characters of Megara, Hades, Phil, Hercules, etc. so overall, I am quite content.

Thanks so much to Netgalley and the publisher for the e-arc!

I ended up reading this in the hardcover format and forgot to leave the digital review here. I liked this continuation of the Hercules Disney story. It is VERY YA but I think someone who wanted to get more into mythology at a young age this is a good step
I do think Meg was a bit annoying about the whole quest thing but it was a quick read and typical Disney

As a Disney movie fan, I had very high expectations for this book. I enjoy it while it is in my hand and I reading it, but if I put it down, I don't feel a pressing need to pick it back up.
The premise and idea are great, I just don't think I'm in the right headspace right now for it.

Hercules is one of my favorite Disney movies because all the characters are so sassy and each one has a great persona. For that reason, I had super high hopes for this retelling/continuation of Hercules and Meg's story.I was not disappointed! I adore Meg and her sass and it totally comes through in this one. She ties her own sandels and everything. I LOVE that this novel was centered around her and her quest.
What you get from this novel:
1. It starts where the Disney movie stops: with Meg and Hercules declaring their love for each other on Mount Olympus. But love stories don't always have happy endings and Zeus isn't about to let his son go back to earth for a girl and Meg can't stay up in the clouds without being a goddess. It's quite a catch 22 - so it's fate when Hera intervenes on Meg's behalf.
2. Meg's own epic quest to become a goddess. It is rather twisted as we would expect from the gods.
3. The unfolding of Hades and Persephone's love story. I wasn't expecting this side story and I am here for it!
4. Phil comes out of retirement. And he has an unexpected soft side.
5. Pegasus and Meg come to an arrangement and almost become friends. He also gets a nickname.
6. Meg's backstory - we find out more about her mother, her life growing up, her botched love story. Things are rarely what they seem.

If you love the Disney Hercules movie, you will LOVE this one!

Go The Distance is the eleventh installment in the Twisted Tale series by Disney-Hyperion asks: what if Meg had to become a god?

Great Storytelling
Hercules is one of my favorite Disney movies. It gets Greek mythology wrong, but the heart, the characters, and the humor within the film make it stand out. Not to mention that musical score.

Honestly, I could not pick up this novel without humming “Go the Distance” (I am listening to it now). Moreover, what impressed me most with this novel was that Calonita managed to recapture the magic of the film while also incorporating elements of the film and actual Greek mythology into the storytelling.

Go The Distance is a heartwarming tale that follows Meg on her journey to prove that she can be a god. However, there is more to it than that. Meg’s journey is deeper than that. With a past filled with heartbreak, Hera and Athena challenge Megara to find the strength within herself, to find the self-worth and love that make her compassionate and strong.

Strong Writing
Showing flashbacks of Meg’s life before she met Hercules before she met Hades, the story highlights the pain in her past. By delving into her past, Calonita gives more depth and attitude to the famous girl who won Herc’s heart. Using classic lines from the film, Calonita gives them more profound value to the reader and Meg. As she goes on this heart-wrenching journey to prove to herself, she is worthy of love to proves to readers that it is okay to open yourself up and be vulnerable.

Of course, Calonita also introduces the plot of Persephone and Hades, fitting it into the mold of the story in a compelling way.

That is what is fresh of Calonita’s writing, the depth of her writing, and how she can effortlessly weave two seemingly different stories.

The story of Hades and Persephone is famous in Greek mythology. In a few pages, Calonita makes the readers believe in the relationship between Persephone and Hades. Moreover, Persephone is not some dainty girl. Instead, the reader sees the spunk and attitude of her characterization, making her the perfect match for Hades.

Their romance is not seen much as the story is not about them, but Calonita makes the readers believe it with few words.

Furthermore, their romance adds to the story instead of feeling thrown in there, which marks a talented writer.

Final Thoughts
Go The Distance is an incredible twisted tale. With solid storytelling that recaptures the film’s heart, giving Meg her time to shine and grow offers readers an intense story of coming to terms with grief and heartbreak and allowing oneself to be vulnerable.

Definitely a fun little read! Hercules was always one those underrated Disney movies while I was growing up but I absolutely loved it. I mean the absolute sass that radiates of Meg makes her the exact sort of Female Disney Character I could really get behind so seeing her story through a new set of eyes was pretty cool

This is a super easy read that was exactly what I needed on bed rest! I thought it struck a great balance of being true to the characters while allowing the new story to shine.

Hercules is one of my favorite Disney movies, and I was so excited to have the chance to read this book. I enjoyed the general premise, and that Meg got a chance to be the focus of the storyline. There were a few parts that just didn't quite suit me - all the nicknames, and some parts were just a bit too cheesy - but overall, if you like the Twisted Tales series, I'd recommend the book.

Meg is one of my favorite Disney characters, so when I saw this book was being publisher about her, and that it was going to be written by one of my favorite authors, I knew I had to read it! And I'm happy I did! This was a fantastic tale, that I would definitely recommend reading!

I received an e-ARC from the publisher.

This book was excellent! The author gave us all the backstory on Meg that we craved as children and later as adults. I always loved Megara but now I really relate to her because she had a hard life filled with loss and grief. And the plot twist with her Ex Aegeus was so good! I did not see that coming. Now I need to read the rest of Jen Calonita's books asap.

Thank you to Netgalley and Disney Publishing for a copy of Go the Distance in exchange for an honest review!

So this was my first Disney Twisted Tale, and I absolutely loved loved loved this. It felt like something that genuinely could have followed the movie, and had the perfect amount of Disney and actual mythology mixed into it. I loved getting to see more about Megara and the gods + getting to see more of Hera especially.

Hercules has always been my favorite Disney movie, and Jen Calonita captured genuinely everything that I loved about that movie, mythology, and more. I didn't think the legend of Hades and Persephone was going to work with Disney's version of Hades, but I really did enjoy that relationship and that addition to the story.

I hope Ms. Calonita gets to write more Twisted Tales in the future, because this was absolutely wonderful.

I wanted to love this one. The A Twisted Tale series has pretty much been hit or miss for me, and I was hoping this one was going to be a hit. Because Hercules is one of my favorite Disney movies and Meg is in my top three heroines. But Go the Distance ended up being a miss for . Meg didn't see like the girl I loved in the movie. She didn't seem as tough and determined. But more than anything it's because the movie pretty much left us with Happily Ever After no lose ends to tie up. So maybe that's while I didn't like this one. I've also noticed that same pattern with the other books in the series that I have been misses for me, their movies also had all of the lose ends tied up nicely.

What an interesting story!! I have always been fascinated by greek mythology and have always loved the movie Hercules so this was such a fun read for me. It was a quick, interesting read that I couldn't put down. I love the spin this book had and I will definitely be reading more of these books!

If you’re a Hercules fan, it’s time to let Meg shine with her own hero’s journey. Zeus is determined to keep Meg and Herc apart, but Hera offers them a future if Meg can reckon with her own resistance to love and sacrifice. Through multiple run-ins with gods and Greek myth nasties to a harrowing journey through the Underworld, Meg’s sassy and headstrong voice is clear. The only downside was wishing for some more personality or enhanced descriptions in some places. Thank you Netgalley and the publishers for the ARC.
