Facing our fears is something that everyone has to do at multiple times in our lives, and this book is a great tool for kids who need to face their own fears.

I always love when a children's book has a good story and/or moral AND amazing artwork. Art is truly so important to children's books in so many ways. Kids use the pictures to tell more of a story than the words.

4.5 stars rounded up: This was a cute book about a rabbit, Ditter Von Dapp, who is afraid of the light. He stumbles around in his underground home because he is afraid the light “might drive me crazy or turn me to goo”. When he loses his shoe, he has to summon up the courage to light a candle to find it. To his surprise, he finds his shoe and nothing happens to him. He lights up his home and is delighted with all the things he can now see. A great story about facing your fears, taking chances and embracing the unexpected. My grandson needs to hear this message and this is a fun way to share it. The illustrations by Flavia Sorrentino were quirky and eye catching. We loved watching his world illuminate, as it changed from muted blue and gray to vibrant colours. My granddaughter also enjoyed this story even though she thought Ditter was silly to live in the dark. The text had a rhyming cadence to it making it easy to read aloud. There was also some great vocabulary to talk about and could be used with primary classes to develop their vocabulary. A fun book that I recommend, especially where children have fear of trying new things.

Ditter Von Dapp is a rabbit who is scared of the light and comfortable in the dark because that's what he's familiar with. This rhyming story shows kids that sometimes you need to face your fears but the outcome could be even better than you've imagined.

This was one was so touching, and absolute perfection. It delivers the message of facing your fears so well. I absolutely loved it. The cool colors at the beginning are so well done, and I love how it slowly moves into warm colors, and that transition is done so well. The cover is also so cute, I love the bunny behind the door, he's so cute. Overall, this was super entertaining, and a great read for anyone trying to overcome their fears.

What an interesting book! I think this a really great book for children! With it's rhyming pattern, fun concept, and detailed illustrations, this makes for a really great children's book. My kids really enjoyed the silliness of Dittor von Dapp being scared of something as simple as the light, but explaining the story they understood that you could be afraid of anything but sometimes all it takes is being a little brave and trying something new to overcome your fears. This book provides a great message for children and easily opens the door for us to have discussions about what we're afraid of and what we do to get through it. I would highly recommend this book for a children's library! Great read.

Afraid of the Light is a cute story about a bunny who lives in a dark cave away from light. This book has great illustrations, an engaging storyline, and provides instruction on facing fears and challenging preconceptions to little ones. A great storybook for young readers.
Many thanks to Bala Kids and NetGalley for the advance copy.

Ditter von Dap is a rabbit afraid of the light. He happily lives in utter darkness until a crafty mouse steals his shoe and forces him to light a candle to find it. I absolutely love the illustration style, which creates an enjoyably eerie mood a la Coraline or Nightmare Before Christmas. The rhymes can be a bit of a mouthful, but are sure to be enjoyed reciting on repeated reads.

This is a sweet, rhyming picture book about a rabbit who is afraid of leaving his dark, safe den. It works well as an analogy for kids who are afraid of the dark and to help them see why the dark might offer comfort, but it also works for other kinds of fears and for taking chances. At the end, the author says he was inspired by The Book of the Dead and explains how despite the scary title it offers helpful wisdom for finding happiness. The artwork is colorful and cheerful.

I read a temporary digital ARC of this book for review.

Almost a 4 star for me, but not quite. For the most part, I enjoyed this. I like the concept and the execution made it fun. The illustrations are just lovely and I like the colour palette used.

The story and message is good but my ocd-ishness doesn't vibe well with the parts that tried really hard to rhyme - but don't.

Also the tidbit at the end didn't flow, so I'm guessing it was a typo and the author meant to write 'courageously'.

This book was a cute book about being afraid of the light...until you realize you are not.

I'm hoping that the formatting for Kindle is fixed before the actual release, I had to try to figure out where some sentences started and stopped while reading which definitely detracted from the book.

Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review this book. I am always looking for children's book out of the normal and that actually teach the child something meaningful. This one definitely has a great message to kids.

Fun rhymes abound in this book about Ditter von Dapp the rabbit and his fear of the light. But when something goes awry, he finds he must turn to the light and face his fear of trying something new. I thought this book had a great message the the rhythm and pacing made it that much more delightful.
