We absolutely loved this book & I’d recommend it for every primary school classroom. The facts and illustrations were superb. They were targeted just at the right level with a sufficient amount of information to encourage learners to want to seek out further knowledge. My own boys loved this book & still talk about it.

The cutest book!! The illustrations are wonderful!! You get to see these tiny creatures and what they really look like. I like how it was shown in the ones that fly, wiggle, and just different ways. I would recommend this for a classroom library for children to look at throughout the day.

Thank you to Netgalley and Princeton Architectural for the chance to read this exquisite book!
The book of tiny creatures is a stunning work of art with so much information and detail packed into both the text and beautiful illustrations.
The book has a wonderfully clear, colour coded contents page with the book split into clear sections; who are the tiny creatures, life in the sky, close to the ground, in the water and incredible creatures.
There are so many fascinating details such as how creatures breathe in the water and world records held by certain insects!
The layout of this book is beautiful and makes it incredibly easy to digest information, the colour palette is clean, crisp and gentle adding depth and further detail to the book.

We have pre-ordered a hard copy of the book as it is so beautiful and informative.

The Book of Tiny Creatures by Nathalie Tordjman, Julien Norwood, and Emmanuelle Tchoukriel is currently scheduled for release on February 16 2021. In the air, on the ground, and in the water, incredible tiny creatures are all around us! They may be small, but they live remarkable lives. This book introduces young learners to spiders, butterflies, worms, snails, and even the world's heaviest insect, the Little Barrier Island giant weta. It teaches children fascinating facts through interactive quizzes, detailed seek-and-find scenes, and hands-on activities, like how to make a snail terrarium.

The Book of Tiny Creatures is a children's nonfiction book for those that want to learn about the tiny creatures that we share the world with. The illustrations are very detailed, and many are so details and perfectly shaded that I thought they might be photographs. I think this might be even more true for those holding a paper copy rather than a digital galley- which inherently will have some color, formatting, and digitization issues. I thought the balance between text and illustrations was very nicely done. The information was well chosen and straight forward. I also thought the inclusion of little quizzes and the seek and finds was good. Letting young readers test and try out their knowledge and challenging them in different ways keeps them interested and engaged, and makes it more likely that they will retain the information and interest in learning more on the topic. Similarly, I liked the extra, hands on projects that were included for interested readers. I think several will be favorite projects for some readers.

This book had so much! I initially picked this to share with my son but my daughter enjoyed it just as much. I on the other had had major heebie-jeebies. This book was really awesome and was way more detailed than I was expecting considering it's geared towards children. There was an enormous amount of information from eating habits to where these creatures lived, facts about honeybees and how they pollinate, and even information on an ant colony. The Book of Tiny Creatures covers so much and is a great book to have on hand for the littles who love the outdoors.

I voluntarily reviewed this after receiving a free copy.

The Book of Tiny Creatures is a science based book on invertebrates for all ages. Originally published in French in 2018, this English language edition is due out 16th Feb 2021 from Princeton Architectural Press. It's 72 pages and will be available in hardcover and ebook formats.

I've always loved inverts. Even as a kid, I was fascinated and would sit and watch ants or snails go about their business for hours. I had freshwater and reef tanks as an adult and they were full of snails and other inverts. Nine-year-old me would have *loved* this book.

The book moves from a general introduction of what invertebrates are, their biology and anatomy, how they reproduce, how they grow, and where they live. The language is simple and accessible, but scientifically accurate. The following chapters cover different environments - flying creatures, crawling creatures, and ones which live (at least part of the time) in the water.

There are short multiple-choice quizzes scattered throughout to challenge readers' comprehension and retention as well as small question and answer sidebars. Answers are provided in answer keys in the back of the book. The illustrations are beautifully expressive and full of small eye-catching details. The eARC I received for review doesn't contain specific information about the art or artist's process, but it appears to be a mixture of different media - pen & ink, colored pencil, watercolor. The illustrations are beautiful and easily recognizable down to tiny realistic details of anatomy and environment. The species represented in the book are not labeled with their proper taxonomic names, so facilitators/teachers/parents may have to make some more effort to help young readers with precise names if they're drawing or filling out observation journals. The book also has a slight European emphasis on the animals which are included (European hedgehogs, admiral butterflies, and the European garden snail are included in some form in the text, not so much opossums, skunks, and North American indigenous inverts). There is a major overlap of course, and North American readers will find plenty of species which are ubiquitous and are included.

Five stars. This would make a wonderful choice for school or public library, activity group, scouting or science activity, home library, or gifting.

Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.

I am looking forward to seeing the full version of this book! I have had many students who would just be over the moon for a book filled with familiar and new tiny creatures and creepy crawlies. I love the format of almost a seek and find larger picture with more detailed pull out information and pictures from it. This would be an exciting book for 4-6-year-olds especially, and one I would definitely add to my tote for forest day classes.

A beautiful collection of art, science and education,.

I love invertebrates. Since I was a child, I have been passionate about the nature surrounding us, and have spend many hours in the outdoors discovering the many things the world has to offer. I grew up to study biology and got even more impressed with the myriads of possibilities that biodiversity on earth has to offer. This Book of Tiny Creatures does justice to the small world of invertebrates that often go unseen or ignored.

The authors have managed to present the science of invertebrates in a simple but accurate manner, and give an amazing overview of the diversity of not only species, but also mechanisms for growing, eating, and surviving that these small creatures possess. In addition to the beautiful illustrations that depict the creatures beautifully, the book is very educational as well as scientifically accurate. It also offers great activities for children or teenagers to help them discover and learn about the natural world around them. It also includes important messages about the importance of biodiversity, and how to preserve it.

After finishing this, I was tempted to go out and find some bugs to observe (if only it wasn't freezing cold outside today...).

This is a lovely children's book that is absolutely packed with information about tiny creatures. They learn the biology of all kinds of small beings -- their scientific terms, how they live, mating, eating, everything. The illustrations are beautiful and accurate, and there are little quizzes and other elements to keep kids engaged. There are sections for creatures that live everywhere from underwater to in your basement. It's a great book, and one kids and adults alike will appreciate.

I read a temporary digital ARC of this book for review.

"The Book of Tiny Creatures" is an informative and well-illustrated book. It is surprisingly short and less text heavy non-fiction book than what you would normally find in the children's non-fiction section. Those qualities make it a great read for 8+ readers. The only negative note from my read through is that some of the cursive style texts will be difficult for some young/struggling readers.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an electronic copy to read and review.

What a fun and colourful book! This year my students are learning about small crawling and flying animals and this book would be the perfect addition to my classroom science library! There is a ton of information about bugs and insects - how they lay eggs, where they live, and fun facts, just to name some! The illustrations are really detailed and accompanied by a great scientific vocabulary for young learners.

I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This looks like a really awesome book with wonderful illustrations, but it’s incredibly hard to read digitally! I still think I would purchase it or check it from the library to read with my kids.

Short and informative, The Book of Tiny Creatures is a children’s guide to the behaviour and habitats of bugs, mollusks, worms, and winged insects.

There are five chapters. Three organise species by habitat: ground-dwellers, water creatures, and flying insects. The opening chapter covers body types, growth, and reproduction, and the concluding one champions record-breaking species and identifies household critters and common pests.

The illustrations throughout are elegant, clear, and attractive. The use of text boxes, columns, and relief keeps the information distinct and approachable. Cross-section diagrams reveal the inner secrets of structures like anthills and bee hives.

Children are encouraged to get involved. The Little Workshop pages demonstrate different ways of carefully catching tiny creatures, how to make a snail terrarium, and ways of building bug shelters in the garden from flowerpots and dead leaves.

There are four full spread illustrations of habitats - a garden balcony, meadow, forest, and seashore - with observation skills questions like: “What is attacking the spider?” There are also two somewhat dry multiple-choice quiz pages, with answers provided.

More than 180 creepy-crawlies are illustrated: among them banana slugs, black widows, great diving beetles, brimstone butterflies, and mason bees.

While it lacks a little pizzazz, this is a great identification guide and introduction to bug basics for classrooms and home libraries. My four-year-old was pouring over the most frightful looking creatures with fascination.
