Well written, good characters, but I found I just had to concentrate too much as I got confused at times.

This is a fairly complex story with interesting characters that is mostly engaging, and has pretty good pacing. It's not a light read, but a good one. Recommended for fans of crime stories.

Thanks very much for the review copy!!

Complexes and solidly build this book was a delightful time of reading in this trouble era. I recommend it!

Reads like a Masterpiece Theatre. A quaint village, an inquisitive historian, a clock winder's questionable death leads to a police investigation with a few cheeky surprises. Not enough detail on one of the investigations and an abrupt cliffhanger ending detracted from the story.

Thank you to Netgalley for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

A well-written and complex crime thriller, it needs a lot of concentration, but it is worth it in the end. Recommended.

Death Of A Clock Winder.....
The death of a Church clock winder gives just cause for consternation. When more deaths follow a local historian, Dr Jackson, becomes involved in the police enquiries. Is there a link between the fatalities? Enjoyable mystery with a colourful cast and laced with a dry humour.

The Winder is a mind boggling, complex crime caper, that left me screaming for more.

It follows the suspicious death of a pensioner, and leads into a series of sinister events which had me gripped from start to finish.

John Hunter has done an amazing job of drip feeding information throughout the story that kept me interested. My head was in a spin by the conclusion of the book!

The lead character, Jacko, is both funny and intelligent. The contrast between Jacko and Police Detective Flett couldn't be funnier. And that's what I loved most about this book - the humour. Yes it is a crime novel, but it is laced with some very memorable funny moments throughout.

A must read for lovers of crime fiction.

What starts out as a not-sure-if-its-actually-a-crime, get turned completely on its head, with crime upon crime by the time this book screeched to a halt.
I really enjoyed the main character, who basically seems like a pretty average guy.
Rivalled by Flett, who was just grumpy.
Injecting tension and just the right amount of humour into the story.
Interesting story that took unexpected turns.
