“Present Danger” has a solid start but a bit of a slow build; nevertheless, I urge you to keep reading to the end! I am a little bit of an outdoors enthusiast and I was delighted to see that this novel encapsulates the rugged beauty of Montana and its surrounding areas. Goddard was able to portray the remoteness of the setting; even paying homage to the artifacts and their histories. It lent itself to the believability factor. Another plus was that the love story did not overpower the overall predicament of finding a murderer deep in the woods-and the quest to find stolen antiquities. Our main characters had to rely on their faith to keep going; a loss of faith in love as well. It isn’t preachy and readers will want to do nothing but cheer on our pair! And once the halfway mark in the book is hit, you won't want to put this down! All the pieces of the puzzle are put into place. There are some twists and some shock factor worked in! It is definitely worth your while! Superb and beautifully crafted! Be on the lookout for it next month!

A plane crash, murder and the discovery of archeological artifacts; pieces of this puzzle in the forest, but are they connected or disconnected? Detective Jack Tanner is on the investigation, trying to sort through all the details, with the help of Forest Service agent Terra Conners. Their relationship forged in the past has left its marks, and as they work together to solve the case, will they be able to put the pieces of their past together to build a possible future.

As the mystery unfolds, the players change and they aren’t all who you thought they would be. This story takes you on a few interesting turns, and kept the momentum of the story going. Both characters come to a new understanding of how their past shaped them, and impacted their choices, giving them the ability to make new decisions.

Thanks Netgalley for allowing me to read this book. Jack Tannet who is a detective in Montana finds a body in the forest. Jack gets to work with his ex girlfriend Terra. With more questions than answers it will be up to Jack to keep Terra alive. This book was well written.

If held on to long enough, bitterness, grudges and regrets can create monsters.

Wow! The family secrets, people left behind, hidden agendas and more take the reader on a ride of mystery and intrigue not soon to be forgotten. Detective Jack Tanner and Special Agent Terra Connors have a somewhat muddy past - will they be able to set that aside and work together to solve this puzzle involving murder, trafficking of antiquities and more?

The danger never ends for our crime fighting duo. A plane crash, forest fire, kidnapping, murders and more secrets put them and their coworkers in scary situations. If no one is willing to talk, will the murders ever end? This edition of Rocky Mountain Courage gives you many things to consider. How often do we cover things up with secrets that end up creating lasting differences in us and others all in the name of not wanting to cause pain? Do we end up creating monsters?

An exciting story from Elizabeth Goddard! Although suspense isn’t usually my genre of choice, Present Danger kept me intrigued with its interesting characters and moments of well-written danger. Some parts felt a bit repetitive, but I was hooked by Goddard’s compelling writing style and attention to detail. I’m excited for this series to continue.

Fans of authors like Lynette Eason won’t want to miss Goddard’s absorbing story! 3.5/5 stars

It’s been a long time since an author has so thoroughly stumped me with the ending of a novel. I didn't see the ending playing out how it did, but it was a pleasant twist that I think added more to the overall arc of the story.

Following Deputy Jack Tanner into a criminal investigation is not US Forest Service Special Agent Terra Connors typical investigation. But when a dead body appears to be closely tied to the trafficking of archaeological artifacts, the two pair up to uncover who all is involved.

Goddard uses first-person narration from both Jack and Terra to drive the story forward. But alongside our two protagonists, Goddard also gives us insight from a mysterious character named Chance Carter. Chance helps drive the story forward while adding to the overall mystery as we immediately discover he is also harboring some large secrets.

Terra and Jack have a history together that includes Jack walking away from Terra in an effort to prove himself and love her in the way he thought best. The pair must wrestle with this past throughout the story, so the romance included felt like more of a slow burn.

One thing that did bother me at the end was when Jack decides to leave a significant reason for their initial breakup hidden from Terra. It's a large hurdle to overcome and I felt like that was a loose thread that could have been tied up but wasn't.

Overall I thoroughly LOVED this story, and I highly recommend it!

You know when you're watching a suspenseful movie and you feel your body tense and you find yourself holding your breath? That was what reading Present Danger was like for me. The descriptions were so well written that I found myself drawn within the story.

US Forest Service Special Agent Terra Connors and Grayback County Sheriff’s Detective Jack Tanner find themselves on the search together for missing twin girls. Thankfully the girls are found safe and sound, but while on the lookout, they find the body of a local man. With suspicions of foul play, they begin to investigate. I enjoyed the relationship between Terra and Jack. They have a history they must confront and their chemistry is obvious. The mystery of the story is multifaceted and I enjoyed learning some history of smuggled artifacts. And, of course, solving a murder or two is always an adventure! The layering of this story keeps pulling you in deeper and the culprits were quite the surprise!

I really enjoyed this first book in Elizabeth Goddard's new Rocky Mountain Courage series. I'm very much looking forward to seeing what comes next!

The first book in a new series is always exciting, but this one was especially so since it has a beautiful setting and characters that are complex and who react in an expected and totally human way. Starting with a plane crash and a pilot who stumbles away and disappears, this book is non-stop action with lots of mystery that just keeps building. Detective Jack Tanner is working in Montana after giving up his job as an FBI Special agent and ends up working with US Forest Service Special Agent Terra Connors when the two of them unexpectedly find a dead body. Since the two of them have a past that ended with a split, their interactions were very interesting, bringing simmering romance into all of the suspense. The plot was intriguing and intellectually stimulating to me. I had never really heard about archeological artifacts being stolen and trafficked, but that is really what is going on in this complicated and well-written book. There are many characters, but all are necessary as they add to the mystery one at a time and build up what becomes a satisfying resolution. The twists were surprises to me and the pacing was perfect. All of the chapters just flowed one into another so it was hard to stop reading since I really wanted to know what was going to happen and who the villain was. My favorite part of the book was the description of the scenery, because each new place the characters went was described with intricate detail so that I could place myself into that scene. My favorite character was Terra’s brother Owen, a wounded war veteran who is a real “horse whisperer” and a true hero. Of course, I loved the mounting suspense and the interaction between the characters. It seemed that Terra was destined for danger, but I enjoyed watching how she got herself out of those encounters. I particularly enjoyed knowing how the characters were working out the mystery in their minds, sharing with me what they were thinking so that I could work on the mystery myself. All in all, this was a thoroughly entertaining and delightful book and I am already looking forward to book #2 in the series.

This is a very exciting suspense story! It starts out with a bang, well actually with a crash. Something illicit is going on. The pilot of the plane survives the crash but he has no idea of where his delivery disappeared to. Then a body is discovered in another part of the area. Former FBI agent, now local Detective Jack Tanner is assigned to the investigation. The woman he still loves but left years ago to join the FBI is working the investigation with him. At first US Forrest Service Special Agent Terra Connors didn't realize Jack was back in their hometown. He broke her heart so she should have nothing to do with him but he seems to have changed and she wants to be part of this investigation. Things will work out as they are meant to be.

Present Danger by Elizabeth Goddard is the first book in her Rocky Mountain Courage series. I really liked all the mystery and suspense in this story. I liked Terra and Jack too. They had so much to work through but they deserved their Happily Ever After. Romantic Suspense readers are going to really enjoy this book.

I received an ARC in exchange for a honest review.

'How had he ever walked away from this woman? How many times would he think about what a fool he had been?'

Elizabeth Goddard begins a new series, Rocky Mountain Courage, with this book, and she's off to a great and exciting start, featuring a mountain plane crash, disappearing pilot, a dead body, ancient artifacts, numerous family secrets, and long-held hurts. Talk about pulse pounding! And some serious guessing as to the culprit's identity! All my guesses were wrong. She adds layer upon layer, eventually pulling it all together in a dramatic conclusion. Well done! I can't wait for the next book in the series.

My thanks to Revell Publishing for a copy of this book via Net Galley. I received no compensation and the thoughts in this review are expressly my own.

This book is filled with plot twists and turns - Some of them definitely caught me unaware! I enjoyed the book itself - I felt that the author was knowledgable about her subject and this came across in her writing.

It's the first in a new series, focussed on a group banded together by tragedy - I will be reading further entries in the series. It was great to have a cameo appearance from a previous book that the author had written. Feels like seeing old friends.

I got this book in exchange for an honest review. I would buy this book if I hadn't gotten a free copy. It keeps you interested right till the end.

I thoroughly enjoyed trying to figure out who was the murderer and who is behind the archeological theft and fencing of stolen artifacts in this page-turning romantic suspense! US Forest Service Special Agent Terra Connors is forced to work with her old flame Detective Jack Tanner to solve the murder and who is behind it. In working on this case, I love how they realize what is important to them, and how long-time mysteries in their own lives finally come to light.

I highly recommend this multi-layered suspense story peppered with sigh-worthy romance to boot!
I can hardly wait for the next book in this series. The first chapter for the next book can be found at the end of "Present Danger"

My thanks to the author, publisher, and Net Galley for allowing me to read an early copy. All opinions are my own.

Present Danger by Elizabeth Goddard hits all the marks of a romantic suspense novel. From the beginning, the heroine and hero lives are put in danger. Sparks fly all over the pages as they decide whether to trust their past relationship’s feelings or ignore each other all together. While the plotline does check off what readers of a romantic suspense want in their novel, I wish there was more about the hidden artifacts. Goddard gave a view of them in the cabin and some backstory, but I wish there was more information about the importance of these items. Why were important? Where they reported missing? Did the cops or another agency try to hunt these items down before now? It is like they went missing, and no one really cared, or at least, Goddard did not show us the importance of these missing items. On the other hand, the characters behaved in predictable ways. Nothing out of the ordinary. They chased the clues and the romance. Goddard’s writing is good. She wrote a story that fans of romantic suspense would enjoy. I believe fans of Lynn Blackburn, Irene Hannon, Colleen Coble, and DiAnn Mills would also enjoy this novel.

Chance is on what he hopes is his last blackmail delivery, but he has a bad feeling about it. A crash, rescue, a couple murders and many suspicious people round out this exciting start to a new series. Jack is a detective for the county, Terra works in another investigative capacity for a different department for lands. A great group of minor characters we are introduced to include Nathan, Case, Erin, Alex, Robert, Owen and a few others. This story takes off, literally, pretty quickly and doesn’t let go. Set in Montana and the wilds around (national forests) we are right in with Jack and Terra trying to figure out who’s behind the murders, and also, she’s trying to get info on artifacts found.

Loved how this novel starts out with a bang as readers are in a plane heading for its demise. The author does not make known the results of the crash. Were there survivors or not. Then the scene switched to introduce main characters former FBI Special Agent Jack Tanner now a detective in Montana and US Forest Service Special Agent Terra Connors as they are trying to determine if the person, they have found is alive. They were searching the forest for a set of twins and stumbled upon a body that had not been there long.

I like how the story goes along with the current investigation all the while showing the reader flash back to Jack and Terra’s were an item in their young adult years. This is an enjoyable intriguing story with complex characters I enjoyed hanging out with. I felt as if I were watching an action-packed movie as the story explodes on the ground, in the air and in unexpected locations.

This is the first novel in a new series. I am excited to see where this series goes next. The author says in note to readers, “…I’ve always been fascinated with artifacts trafficking…in this context I wanted the story to reflect a global issue, one of many that happens behind the scenes and in the cover of darkness – places like the dark web or even online and right “in our face,” as it were.”…”we can relate on some level. We all grew up watching and loving Indiana Jones, but in truth he is a tomb raider….”

I loved the Indiana Jones movies and found this book gripping and heart felt. So, grab your coffee sit by the fire and get ready for a mind-bending adventure that will make your head spin (in a good way). This would work great for your next book club pick. It is a wild ride you do not want to miss!
