This story is waaaaayyyyy tooo looonnnggg. At times it rhymes and carries a rhythm, and other times it does not which drags it out even more. This was just not the book for this reader, but I did really like the illustrations which is why I ranked it as high as I did.

I received a free ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I liked the idea of this book. The pictures were very unique and fun. It got a little too wordy at times, but there were a lot of fun words sounds throughout the story.

Full of whimsy and onomatopoeia, this story is quite delightful. The illustrations fit the story so well and are so engaging. My one note is that I read it aloud and a hard time finding a cadence though like I can with most picture books.

What a beautiful whimsical children’s book that I can see becoming a firm favourite. It is an ageless tale of a travelling band of three frogs that are encounter a grumpy grouse. We then see how that relationship changes when tragedy strikes.

Beautiful book that held my boys’ attention through with such gorgeous illustrations

The illustrations in this book are wonderful, and the storyline is good. All the animals in the forest get together to dance and play instruments.

This was whimsical and full of onomatopoeia. A band of three frogs comes to put on a show in the forest only to be fussed at by the grumpy grouse. They find a way to help out the grouse and get him to turn his unhappiness around. This was cute and could be a good lesson for kids to help out even those who are unkind to you.

A Great Big Night is a cute book with a sweet message of friendship and helping hands. The illustrations are lovely, richly detailed, and vibrant, while the text is playful and whimsical, with lots of delightful, fun to read aloud phrases and vocabulary choices. A charming story time choice.

Thank you to NetGalley and Nimbus Publishing for the advance review copy!

This is one of those sort-of onomatopoeic books, full of noise and sound FX, that will cry out for mimicry from a (hopefully small and restrained) audience. A trio of musical frogs enters the forest where all the animals live, and everyone has a grand night dancing and making a hullabaloo – apart from one. But when misfortune happens, that's the end of the music, right – there's no way a song and a dance could actually be not just entertainment, but beneficial? I can't say I ever loved the artwork – in wanting foliage here and there and everywhere it lost a lot of the cuteness it might have had – and the end twist kind of negates a lot of the second half, but this jovial and decently moral young read will get a story read and an activity engaged with at the same time. If you can stand the noise, that is… Three and a half stars.
