Arthur and the elephant went on an adventure. The elephant lost his memory. Arthur never became friends in the end. The stories about having compassion. The kindness and the togetherness tug at your heart. The illustrations were on point. They were powerful, Vivid, detailed, and colorful. The illustrations went with the storyline. I recommend this book to younger children ages 3 to 7. I give this book five stars.

A charming story about a boy who befriends an elephant that’s forgotten everything and tries to help distract the elephant so his problems “feel smaller.” The illustrations were lovely, but it felt like it ended a bit abruptly. I’ll be adding it to my collection for elephant Story Time, though!

Thank you Flyaway Books and NetGalley for the ARC of Arthur and the Forgetful Elephant. This is a story of kindness and friendship. Arthur has true empathy for an elephant who can't remember who he is. He helps him forget his worries and remember who he is and the important people in his life.

A very sweet picture book that could be the start of a conversation with small children about older relatives who may be suffering from dementia or Alzheimer's disease.

Arthur is playing outside when he meets an older elephant who cannot remember who he is or where he lives. Arthur understands completely. He has forgotten things, also. So he offers to help the elephant. He suggests that they think of something else. He acknowledges that the problem won't go away but it might feel smaller. And so they play and play and play. Arthur slides down the elephant's trunk for a dip in the pond while elephant gets a drink. They eat some yummy berries. and they play with Arthur's friends -- who lovingly decorate the elephant with chalk drawings. When Arthur takes the elephant home to meet his family, the elephant suddenly remembers - he has a family also! He trumpets and his children and grandchildren come to find their lost grandpa elephant.
I liked how everything happened seamlessly. Arthur, his friends, and his family were not surprised to see an elephant in their neighborhood. Everyone just accepted the elephant and included him in their activities until he remembered. He was treated lovingly. This book is an excellent book to start a conversation with kids about Alzheimer's or dementia.

Wait while I grab a tissue, this book book is like some one sending you flowers when you have a bad day. The illustrations are rosy and beautiful. The story is one I want to pass on to my children. I think I even needed to read this book. It is about an elephant who can't remember his family and a little boy who helps him. The advice is timeless and the illustrations are beautiful. This book is for all ages.

A good little book to help children understand what it might be like for someone in their family who is starting to suffer from memory loss, and ways the child might be able to help that person.

I teach high school and love to use picture books. This book would be a great fit for character study. I tend to use pictures books to help students understand the complex standards. The overall change in character would be great for my class. I recommend not only for the words but also the excellent pictures.

Such a sweet little book! Great illustrations, and a sweet story. A great book to introduce the concept of alzheimers/aging/forgetfulness to younger kids.

Young Arthur encounters an elderly elephant who suffers some sort of dementia. In this gentle read, Arthur helps the elephant have an enjoyable day with Arthur’s own friends and then reunites him with his loving children and grandchildren. A wonderful way to reassure youngsters if their own grandparents or great-grandparents become forgetful.

In the interest of full disclosure, I received this book from Flyaway Books and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

The illustrations in this book are WONDERFUL!

The dialogue between characters was a little "off" for me. I thought a few of Arthur's sentences sounded like they came straight from an adult and not worded in a way a child might say them. BUT there is so much good in this little book and I will certainly recommend it to my patrons.

(*spoiler alert*) The storyline really hit me smack dab in the heart when the elephant was reunited with his family and you realize his forgetfulness is due to dementia.

Arthur's bopping along doing his own thing on a gorgeous, sunny day when all of a sudden he feels a raindrop. What? It turns out that it's a teardrop from a an elephant who's crying and having a hard time because he cannot remember who he is or where he lives. Arthur's kindness helps him get through the day, and find his home, but meanwhile they have lots of fun adventures together. This is a simple story that is entertaining and sweet on its own, but can also be used to introduce young children to the concept of memory problems, especially in older adults. <spoiler>The elephant turns out to be a lost grandpa elephant</spoiler>. The illustrations are absolutely adorable - bright and vivid and they will catch the reader's eye and keep kids looking for more. I highly recommend this beautiful picture book!

Giron offers a look at how it feels to forget elephant size pieces of life. Arthur meets an elephant who can't remember who he is or where he lives. Arthur offers some calm advice about thinking about something else. He and the elephant head off for a day of play together. Arthur's friends join the fun and they all play until the sun sets. Fortunately, the elephant begins to remember his family and calls for them. They come and share their love for him. Arthur and he set a playdate for the next day.
Tender and compassionate way to talk about memory loss issues for young children. Readers see how being calm and continuing to interact and play helps calm both themselves and the older person they know. The illustrations are charming and soothing to support the text.

Arthur’s friendship helps change a “rainy day” to one full of sunshine and rainbows for an elderly elephant! He teaches his new enormous elephant friend that sometimes doing other things can lead to remembering what you forgot! Arthur, the elephant, and even some of Arthur’s friends participate in simple childhood activities like hide-and-go-seek and coloring with chalk bringing joy to all involved. The brief text on each page pairs nicely with the incredible gentle hues of the illustrations. Arthur appears as a curious red-headed white child wearing glasses who has no fear when he encounters the old large gray elephant. Arthur’s friends are multicultural. Most of the illustrations span two pages. The elephant’s change in mood is reflected well in his tears and smiles. This would be an excellent book shared one-on-one or with a group about friendship.

I love the concept of this and I think it's subtle way of talking about memory loss is very effective. I do wish that there was some backmatter included just to help boost the book a bit more-something to help parents deal with explaining memory loss to young children.

We liked this title. The only probably was reading and viewing the illustrations on my iPhone. Otherwise, the story was sweet.

The best thing about this book were the beautiful illustrations! I instantly fell in love with the elephant because of the emotion expressed in his face. I was a little disappointed in the story, I was hoping for a book about memory loss and helping children understand dementia. Ultimately it was a story about kindness and acceptance and we can all use more of that these days!

Arthur and the Forgetful Elephant is a cute and simple story about a child who helps an upset elephant remember. I love the pictures, especially when the elephant is colored on.

This lovely exploration of kindness and joy in the face of the elephant's memory loss will resonate for anyone who has someone in their life who struggles this way. An entire community of kids gives the frightened elephant an afternoon of play and camaraderie, and these, happily, help him unlock a bit of his memory. Gentle, appealing illustrations.
