This book really focused on the relationship of sisters, but I feel like you don't need to have a sister to really connect with these poems. Especially if you have people in your life you'd consider a sister or even just a best friend.

This was a quick read and gets pretty deep considering it's so short.

Be sure to check trigger warnings before deciding to read Shine Your Icy Crown.

I do like that this poetry book is part of a bigger running theme through Lovelace's series of poetry books. However, I found nothing new about her poetry that I like. I do recommend it for folks getting into poetry.

A wonderful book of poetry that really resonated with me. Amanda Lovelace again shines with her amazing poetry and takes on femininity and more. Thank you to Netgalley for the ARC.

This was a great poetry collection. I loved the themes and found it resonating with me. I would recommend this to any poetry lover.

have always loved lovelace's writing however this seemed quite too rudimentary and too "caption-y"

the winter of my life cannot
& will not triumph over me, for i decided a long time ago that
defeat is not a choice worth considering

it is your divine right
to heal as messily
& as inconsistently
& as loudly as possible

Amanda Lovelace is pobabaly the only poet I follow from the heart .Her words are so relateable and heart warming. I loved her fairytales series so much I wish she could add few more in his series. I actually copy her verse and share with my family and friends.

Anything by Amanda Lovelace is magic. shine your icy crown is part of her poetry series that lights a fire in my heart. Her first published collection, the princess saves herself in this one, is part of what got me back into reading.

This is one of my favorite books by Amanda lovelace. I absolutely love her writing style and how she molds her poems into stories. Each page makes you feel something new

shine your icy crown focuses mostly on sisters and their relationship. I liked that a lot because I like positive female friendships in books. There’s a lot of the older sister giving advice to the younger one and (thankfully) I didn’t feel like the advice was too cheesy or unwanted (I have an older sister and sometimes I don’t always want to accept the advice

As always with Amanda Lovelace, there’s the important theme of self-love and self-empowerment. In this one it’s the big sister telling the older one to be more happy. Care less about what other people think. Stand up for yourself, make your voice the loudest advocate for you. Lets the younger sister know that even though others might not love her, her older sister always does.

I love Amanda Lovelace and I could not get enough of this one. These are the poems and fairytale spin offs that every girl and woman should read to feel empowered, beautiful, and enough.

Shine Your Icy Crown by Amanda Lovelace is a poetry collection part of the You Are Your Own Fairy Tale poetry series. Like other collections in Amanda Lovelace's library, this collection is relatively quick to get through and has a more personal narrative style. At times within the collection, it felt like you were speaking to a sister figure who was bestowing upon you compassionate words, telling a personal story.
The writer was considerate to the readers by including a trigger warning at the beginning of the book, listing the various triggers, and advising the readers to remember to practice self-care. The collection has several rather charming illustrations to accompany various poems.

big sister says
they will try to convince you that you have no right to be
unhappy—that other people have it so much worse than you
do. even if that last statement is true, it doesn’t matter. your
pain is yours, & comparing it to the pain of others doesn’t solve
the problem. do not let their words stop you from reaching out
for the help you need.

----

telling you that i don’t plan on having any children is not an
attack on your choices or your dreams. just as well, it’s not an
opportunity for you to tell me that i’ll change my mind when i
finally meet the right person. maybe i will change my mind, but
it’s just as possible that i won’t.
—my fate is not a forgone conclusion.

3.5 stars.

This was another Lovelace creation that continued on the path of easy-to-read, easy-to-follow poem collection focusing on female empowerment.

Divided into 3 parts, each led with a snippet of Lovelace-style fairytale princess’ journey. The poems that followed oftentimes took on the format of ‘Big Sister says’ which debunked gender-biased, cliche advices. The fairytale itself served as the overarching story tying all the poems together, which I really liked.

The poems had great messages about believing in yourself, challenging the status quo, and practicing compassion to yourself. They were less angry than some previous Lovelace poems, which suited my taste better.

Beautifully inspirational in a raw and unapologetic way. I loved the poems in this book. They are about empowerment and being the you that you are without letting others judge you.

Really enjoyed (and own!) the Women are Some Kind of Magic collection so I snagged the chance to grab an early copy of Shine Your Icy Crown. Unfortunately, life gets in the way and I was unable to review it early. I actually grabbed a copy of both Break Your Glass Slippers and Shine Your Icy Crown and was able to enjoy the physical copies. I find that I prefer reading them that way.

Favorites include:
“break the rules whenever you find the chance. love a life so fierce, bold, and carefree that people often accuse you of being a witch. you see, society fears nothing more than a woman who’s not only aware of her power but also not afraid to use it in any way she see fit. what could be more fun than constantly keeping them on their toes?”

“she’s so tired of men
telling her how strong she is.
she already knows.”

Related to this one even more than the first in this collection. I am the big sister and have an extremely close relationship with my younger sister.

As with all of her other titles, I thoroughly enjoyed this book from Amanda Lovelace. I have purchased and read all of her books, after reading and reviewing her first book through NetGalley. She gave me just what I needed with this text and I related to so many of her poems, and found myself going back to re-read them. I purchased a copy for my library after reading this. Lovelace puts on paper what many of us women and feminists feel inside, and it's just what the world needs. Thank you to the author, NetGalley, and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this title. I look forward to reading more of her books in the future.

Malheureusement je n'ai pas du tout accroché à la plume, les textes ne m'ont pas parlé du tout malgré que j'adore la poésie anglaise

This author murders me! But I’m a totally good way, I promise! All of her poems, whether I can personally relate or not, all stir my soul into certain feelings. Too many feelings, actually. But I love it and every second of reading her poems. This book here is no expectation. I will gladly read more of hers and murder my soul in the process. Thank you :’)

I absolutely love Amanda Lovelace's poetry, and shine your icy crown was no exception. Lovelace's poetry always makes me feel seen and connects on a level. I've always loved poetry, but this is a favorite author that I know to buy immediately. This book, while not my absolute favorite, didn't disappoint as usual!

I received a copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an impartial review.

shine your icy crown by Amanda Lovelace is the second book under the "You Are Your Own Fairy Tale" series.

It is an empowering work of poetry.

Most of the verses in the book are worth quoting, so you are better off reading it whole. The illustrations are quite nice too.

Thanks to the author and the publisher for the ARC.
