I thought I had posted this back when I first read the book in 2021, apparently user here. Following is my original review. I would also like to add:
My husband and I have started a book club with just the two of us. Each week we (separately) listen to a chapter of the book then at the end of the week we hang out and talk about it. Doing this with "Everybody Fights" was a great way to better understand each other and come closer together. Like their podcast, listening to the audiobook feels like you are in the room with them.
“Everybody Fights – So Why Not Get Better At It” was such a great read! I have three other books on marriage and I haven’t finished any of them. It wasn’t that they didn’t have good advice for my marriage, it was that they weren’t written in such a way to hold my attention. This was not the case with Everybody Fights. The Holderness are so much fun to watch on their parodies and their podcast is great to listen to because it feels like you are right there having a conversation with them. That is how their book is to read. They are so engaging that you feel like you are just sitting down talking about how to improve your marriage.
Due to a busy schedule, most of my reading these days is done by listening to audiobooks and I ordered the audible, which I am so excited to listen to as well, because like I said, I love their podcast. So I usually listen to books, but I had the chance to join their launch team and read the advanced copy ebook before it came out. And I was able to make time to read it because it is so easy to consume. The chapters are each broken down into little sections that make it easy to read just short pieces at a time. By reading all of these little enjoyable sections I was able to breeze through it.
They share lots of stories that are so easy to relate to, which gave me opportunities to think about my own marriage. Kim and Penn give lots of great doable advice, a lot of which they got from their own marriage counselor, helping them through their own fights.
People may prefer a book written by some professional. Not me, give me the real people who are ready to share their real fights to help me find real improvement. And though they don’t have some kind of official title, they do share tidbits from lots of “experts,” like their counselor and friend Christopher.
Love the book and highly recommend it!

Fantastic Book. I have been following Kim and Penn on social media for years. It's a great insight into their lives and shows that there is no such thing as a perfect couple. The audio narration is spot on and enjoyable just like their social media videos!

Everybody Fights by Kim and Penn Holderness was a refreshing, laugh out loud look at relationships and how we fight. This couple states from the beginning that their not experts. They don’t have the answers but they do have some tools to share on how to fight better.
I found this book helpful and funny. I’m grateful they didn’t hold back and shared it all. I feel like every couple needs a refresher on communication.
Loved the worksheets.
Thanks Thomas Nelson via NetGalley.

Not bad. I think if someone is looking for something in depth or a detailed marriage help book—this isn’t it. This book is more on the casual side of marriage help books. There are good chapters in here wrought with examples from both perspectives of husband and wife. If you are familiar with their videos —this book is alike that because you will find their personality coming out through their narratives. They share their fights and sometimes it’s goofy and light hearted with a nice mix of sharing wise bits for marriage.

One part They touched on was the aspect of stonewalling. Their examples on how it affects each person offered valuable insight. Like I said it wasn’t an in depth chapter into anything but there is just enough to satisfy a casual reader to consider one’s actions and to change.

Some might find the back and forth a bit much. It was okay. Sometimes I had to read quickly over parts because it was a lot of back and forth conversations.

Thank you to Netgalley for providing an ARC for the purpose of this review.

The Holderness Family is a famous social networking phenom in the United States. Kim and Penn Holderness wrote Everybody Fights. I listened to this book which the authors recorded themselves.

Kim and Penn work together and are together more than most married couples. They recently appeared on The Amazing Race and did a fabulous job modeling communication with each other. In the book, Chris, their therapist is often mentioned, and if they struggle in their marriage they have ironed out most of their major issues. In the stressful competition they never were angry, they celebrated each other’s accomplishments and encouraged each other in moments of anxiety or fear.

After watching them actually show a team of two equals, I would encourage everyone in a relationship or not to pick up this book or listen to the audio. Their past relationship issues are exposed in the book and they take you through how they have learned to work through issues and build each other up in life. Penn and Kim’s ability to laugh at themselves make this everyone’s fun relationship how to book! Loved it!

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I find The Holderness Family's content extremely entertaining and to top it off, they seem like genuinely nice, down-to-earth people. I tend to keep my bar low for "celebrity"-authored books, but this was thoughtfully written and chock full of actual helpful marriage advice.

It felt like a good representation of the Holdernesses as a couple and reinforced their likability.

The Holderness family is fantastically funny and adorable. Who knew they could help bring a little laughter and thought-provoking conversations in a book. I was given a. e-arc copy and found the material helpful, but almost common sense. It is very much like when your mom tells you something you blow her opinion off as a teen. Then, when you hear the same helpful tidbit from a much cooler celebrity you believe it makes sense. The faith sections were light and not pushed, so it is lightly faith-based since the majority of the knowledge Penn & Kim share is from their own pastor. I would recommend this sweet self-help book for a newly engaged or newlywed couple. I thoroughly enjoyed the banter and laughter throughout the book. As a married woman of 20+ years, this was a delightful read.
Thank you, Thomas Nelson (publisher) and Net Galley for the E-ARC of this book

The most entertaining book ever written on fighting! Seriously, I love this family and this couple. I've watched their videos for years, and while I hadn't ever listened to their podcast, when I saw they were coming out with a book, I knew I had to read it! Then when I picked it up, it was the perfect timing because I needed the tips they were writing about!
The best part is that you get to hear from both Kim and Penn's sides, not only of the fight but of how they came to a resolution. And no, it's not just resolutions from their own head....they have a marriage counselor who they introduce at the beginning who helped them through their fights.
I really enjoyed the way the book and each chapter is laid out. It starts with the fight....usually a really small thing that as most marriage fights go blows up into something bigger. Then each of them share their perspective on it and why they had trouble resolving it themselves. Then they share what their counselor helped them understand to get through it and to use in future time frames when similar fights come up. Each chapter is a different type of fight. Like one is on misunderstandings, one is on listening, one is on finances, etc. And while there were some tense moments that they share, Penn and Kim have an innate ability to stay relatable but also cut the tension with tons of humor. Just the way they talk about things actually made me giggle...regularly throughout the chapter. It just WHO they are. Which makes the book so entertaining while teaching a lot of great and useful information.
I highly recommend it!

I adore the Holderness Family and was excited to read their new book. I was not disappointed. It was great. Five plus stars.

I had read this not knowing a single thing about this family, and went in with a very skeptical eye. I'm an atheist, and you find out pretty early, and pretty often that this entire book comes from the experience of this Christian couple and the advice that they get from their priest.
It was going to take a monumental achievement for this to get 5 stars from me, and it absolutely did that. It is very funny, super relatable, and gives great advice that isn't derived from some dumb old wives tales or "just because, ya know?". They're not relationship therapists and neither is their priest, but almost every piece of advice seems like it has parallels in cognitive behavioral therapy, and systems approaches to family dynamics. But, they simplify it down from all the theory I studied in college to examples from their marriage. Also, the co-writing approach works really well. I may have taken down lots of notes...

I am not normally a reader of self-help books, but I picked this one up because I love the Holderness Family and have been following them for years. If you’re not familiar with them, go look them up - they make absolutely hilarious musical parody and other funny and relatable videos, and just seem like the nicest people too. Well, now they have written an advice book, on how to better handle fights with your spouse, with examples from their own life, and tips from their own marriage counselor/pastor (but not from a religious standpoint; I’m Jewish and this did not feel like a Christian book). It would have been worth it just for the stories alone, but I actually found much of what they had to say relatable and found some really good advice as well. And I think a lot of what they have to say applies not just to spouses but would help navigating issues with parents, siblings, older children, etc. I don’t know if I’ll be successful in putting it all into practice, but I will definitely be giving their advice a try.

I wasn’t sure what to think about the Holdernesses writing a book, but I am glad they did. I enjoy their podcast a lot and this feels like a deeper dive podcast on how to fight well. I really enjoyed it!

Silent treatments, secret contracts and silly bedroom shenanigans! What marriage cannot relate to moments where the man asks the woman, "Anything wrong?" And she merely replies, "I'm Fine." The silent treatment starts and the guy knows he needs to say Sorry, but for what?!?!? The words Thank You and I'm Sorry have so much depth, but after many years of hearing them they lack the finesse needed to maintain the vows of marriage. With the divorce rate being what it is, learning how to fight with your spouse for the long term was a new concept. Why fight? Because the making up with your soulmate, best friend, lover, and the person you love more than the air you breath is worth every bit of the vow you originally made....and this book hones in on how to fight for life with the gloves down and the win is always a tie.

During COVID, I feel in love with The Holderness Family. They gave me joy in a dreary time. I enjoyed watching how they were on the screen, but when I saw the book it enticed me by the title alone. How can these fun loving people ever fight? W.H.A.T? And then to learn Kim is an introvert? I was spellbound as I too have a marriage of opposites. I cannot thank these two crazy kids enough for this book.

I loved how Kim and Penn were brutally honest, even about the sexual aspect of their marriage. And I was surprised, shocked and powerfully moved by these revelations, as I too have struggled with blatant honesty in the bedroom....and to learn the bond we share in the bedroom leads into more intimacy in all aspects of our marriage. It was not earth shattering knowledge, but it was compelling to learn how after so many years of taking each other for granted we find ourselves locked in rolls, 'secret contracts' and find we aren't as honest as we thought we were.

Dr. Edmondson, their amazing pastor/counselor/friend had insight into their marriage that I found applicable to my own. I think a person who has been married for mere months to many years would gain wisdom from this book.

I have received this book through HarperCollins, but have already purchased to give to multiple friends who I think would also benefit from the wisdom within these pages.

This is a good book. I loved reading the stories and seeing the different perspectives. It really shows you that we all aren’t thinking the same thing and how important communication truly is!

I really enjoyed this book! I loved the stories told from each perspective (husband and wife) and how issues are seen in different ways. I also found the advice very easy to implement and helpful. Some of the stories were a bit long winded for me and I felt at some parts of the book they seemed to be bragging about their success. A fun read that has some great tips - 4 stars from me!
