Sunset on the Square - Lilac Mills

I found this a very refreshing take on your usual romance style novel, set in beautiful Tenerife we meet Elspeth who is in her late 50s. Four years have passed after the death of her husband when she puts up a guest (Charles) from her good friends local hotel where there has been a booking mistake. Soon the sparks begin to fly and Elspeth finds herself feeling things that at first she is very unsure of and shocked by. Alongside the romantic aspects of the book there are other relationships to enjoy, including between her friends, boss and her son who lives in Japan. Overall this was a super quick and enjoyable read, and I look forward to reading more from this author in the future.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Canelo for allowing me the chance to read this book in return for an honest review

I think this is the first book I've read by this author but I would like to read more of them. A lovely story about love the second time around after a long marriage and bereavement. Set in Tenerife but away from the bright lights and holidaymakers .
I loved the description of the Island and what it was like to live there. I have been to the top of Mount Tiede before you had to apply for a pass to get there so I loved reliving my memories again through Elspeth and Charle's trip there.
A really enjoyable story.

I really am loving this Island Romance series from Lilac Mills. Each book is a standalone completely unrelated to the others, with the exception of the setting, they all so far are set in Tenerife. And amazingly all in small remote parts of the Island that the average tourist probably hasn't visited.

And it's always refreshing to read a book featuring slightly older than the average age of rom com main characters, proving once again that new love can strike you no matter your age.

Elspeth has been widowed for 4 years and still talks to Ray regularly. She has no desire to move on, and believes she is happy as she is. But when she does a favour for her friends and takes in Charles after a hotel overbooking, just for a few days, little does she know just how much her world is going to change.

It was so sweet seeing Elspeth's reactions to Charles and the re-awakening of long dormant feelings. I also loved the various walks and hikes they went on together, partly just as I'm impressed how fit they both are at their age (I know I wouldn't be able to do half of what they did),

I love how through this book you get to see a different side to life in Tenerife, to the typical expat stomping grounds, and I can't help but think that this story will do wonders for tourism in Tenerife for those wanting more of an active walking / cycling holiday. Well once real life travel is safe again, in the mean time it was fabulous to read some armchair travel.

It's gentle, its touching and its just a simply lovely romance, with a wonderful setting that I thoroughly enjoyed.

Thank you to Canelo and Netgalley for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily,

I want to thank the author and Netgalley for gifting me the ebook. I enjoyed this book so much! It is just laid back and an easy read. If you are looking for a cute romance story for someone who is in their 50's-60's this is your book. I am use to reading love stories for younger characters and I have to say I found this refreshing. The main characters are very likable. The author's writing is really great and I felt like I was really there. I enjoyed going through the feelings with the main female character and how she started falling in love with a man and all the while she was so distraught on how her husband who passed away years later might have felt. I love a book that messes with my emotions like this and I found myself crying and laughing along with the main character. I could not ever imagine loosing my husband and trying to get on with life. It just goes to show that you can find love any stage of life! Thank you for this really great story.

It is my first Lilac Mills book, if I am not mistaken there are others with the same romance-vacation theme.
.
At first, I was amused to hear Espelth's voice, her ideas and insights into single life after many years, after having lived a full life with her husband and son. It shows a side that I didn't understand before about loneliness, and the loss of a husband. At first it was good, but as things progressed it became a bit tedious, right in the middle, but on the last chapters it picks up the good tempo. The central conflict appears and gives new life to the book.
.
Espelth has to decide what is the most important thing in her life and when one has lived her life in function or accompanying others this task is very complicated.
.
It is a tender, soft book with a romance that takes place in the best settings in Tenerife. It's one of those books that take you on sensory trips and leave you googling landscapes.
.
I believe that many people can feel attracted and immersed in the conflicts that a woman of more than fifty years goes through, is kind of life meaning and heart warmer book
.
Thanks to #NetGalley and Canelo Publishing to let me read and apreciate #SunsetontheSquare

Set on the beautiful island of Tenerife, the town of Santiago del Teide sounds amazing. Widowed Elspeth is a middle aged woman who doesn't expect to find love so late in life until Charles comes along and romance blossoms.

I enjoyed reading this book. I found it refreshing to read about older people finding love. The setting was adorable and the author went to great lengths to describe it fully. I almost felt as if I was there. Perfect escape, perfect beach read.

ARC for an honest review:

I tried with this. I really did. The setting is beautiful and it's a romance where the characters are middle-aged instead of beautiful twenty-somethings. And the cover. My gosh. However, this reads like a NaNoWriMo draft. I feel like the author went for word count rather than word flow and that makes reading this such. a. chore. The main character will put on her slippers and then contemplate how and why she got the slippers and how she always wears slippers and her late husband adored her slippers and then she takes a sip of tea. She loves tea, she's always loved tea, she would drink coffee but it's stronger than her tea and so on. So much nothingness happens in great detail. I feel like there is a gem of a story in here, but it needed an editor with a red pen to help tighten it up.

Love On Tenerife...?
Will the island of Tenerife bring love for widowed Elspeth? When Charles comes to stay, purely by chance, something tells her that something is indeed on the cards. Enjoyable escapism with a sunny backdrop.

This was a rather sweet romance where the main character is a woman in her late fifties. The book was a bit slow in the beginning, but it ended up being a lovely escape novel. I think women in their fifties don't often expect to find love again after the death of a beloved partner, but Elspeth discovers there is a whole new future for her.

I liked Elspeth as a main character. Her husband had died four years ago and she is still trying to move on with her life in Tenerife. Working in a local shop, hiking and talking to her dead husband seems to be her life until her friends at the local hotel find themselves double booked and ask her to put one of their guests up for three nights

There were so many things to like about this book. The local hikes where I learnt a lot about the Tenerife countryside, the food and seeing Elspeth gradually start to open up to what life could offer. Also I loved the ending.

I received an advance copy of, Sunset on the Square, by Lilac Mills. This book is not a favorite of mine. I did not like the characters, the location was ok though.

I didn't want this story to end, and wondered (sighed, actually *wink*) afterwards if life cannot have more of these happy endings...

And will you believe that when reading a romance novel not long ago, I indeed wondered if the senior characters in the book might be the main characters in a novel... Their age doesn't disqualify them for being so! Happy with Lilac Mills thinking likewise.

Still raw and fresh from the death of her husband four years ago, Elspeth is not interested in love until Charles walks into her life and is asked to put him up for 3 nights as his hotel has overbooked.

Elspeth's life is in Tenerife but torn to move back to the UK, will she make the right choice?

I love the warmth and joy Lilac brings to her books a fantastic Author which I always find a pleasure to read.

This is the perfect escapism read you can feel that sunshine on your face, highly recommended.
