I am not a paranormal read person. But I did enjoy this one. The plot was there as far as keeping me engaged. However, there was a bit of less anticipation leading up to scenes and problems were quickly deflated. I don’t have much to say. I didn’t love it but I didn’t hate it either.

This is an absolutely terrible book. It makes bad erotica look better. I don't think even a great editor cansave this book. Good luck to those who want to read it.

I have to admit, I am usually not the greatest fan of shifter reads/romances, however I did find this book rather intriguing so was willing to give it a go.
I found points of this story rather confusing, for example - trying to determine what age Hel actually was. However, as the story continued and I read the following chapter it made this much clearer for me, which allowed me to embrace her character more.
This is most certainly a dark read, featuring many dark topics including trafficking and violence, along with others.
I found the characters and the romance that blossomed between them endearing. With an interesting cast of supportive characters, this is an enjoyable enough read.

I'm normally not the biggest fan of shifter romances, and this book just proved that the genre is not for me. The writing style made it very hard to get into the story as I couldn't follow what was happening because of the amount of typos, and the way scenes were described. It took me an entire month to finish this book, which is very unheard of for me as I'm a very fast reader. Overall I rate this story 2 stars, because I can definitely see the appeal from other readers' perspectives. It just wasn't my cup of tea.

I didn’t realize that this story involves mythical creatures however once I wrapped my head around that, I found myself drawn into the story. It was an easy read and I found myself reading until late at night to finish. Looking forward to the rest of the series.

I hate giving bad reviews, because I know how hard it is to pour your heart and soul into something, only to have other people criticize it. Unfortunately, I don't have much choice with this book.
First of all, my biggest issue was with the way the book looks. It deserved another look by the editor for sure, because in my copy the chapters are not very clearly marked, the sometimes they start with only one letter, sometimes you have to look for the first word. Some parts don't make any sense, because they have words or whole sentences that don't belong there. Sometimes the writing is on only half of the page, like a poetry. Several times I had to reread a whole bit to actually understand what was meant by it.
Secondly, the plot. I almost forgot that this was meant to be an erotica fantasy novel, because this book completely lacks one important factor that makes or breaks a good erotica for me - anticipation. In my opinion, a good author will make you excited about a scene or a character without even having them touch. I think the palpable tension or atmosphere is where the anticipation lies. Here there was none of that, I felt like this story has been written in blocks, but the blocks were not really connecting to each other. Every time there was an action coming on, the situation has been solved and diffused within a chapter. Somehow the classic trope of meeting and instantly understanding each other felt flat and unbelievable. Actually this whole story arch was a bit off. I'm not sure if it was because the world wasn't described too well, or the rules of this particular world to me didn't make much sense. There can be more than one Alpha born to a pack, but they can bound themselves to a weaker one? Left me shaking my head in confusion.
I do have to give praise for the sex scenes which were hot, albeit too little of them altogether.
So I gave it 2 stars out of 5, because there were some good bits, but the storyline was pretty average and it definitely needed another look by the editor.

I'm not really all that into paranormal books but I'm so glad I got to read this one.... I honestly didn't want to put it down until I finished it all the way to the end .... Wouldn't mind reading more to this series.

I found this one to be a interesting read, and while it wasn't my favorite paranormal type of read, I found it gravitating in the plot format of this book which is what kept me most engaged. I am not sure exactly my biggest issues with this book, but it seems very uneven in the pacing, there was not much smooth in the transitions. And I would call this also a dark paranormal romance and yeah the dark parts of this book was very dark in some ways and I honestly think I just wasn't in the right mood for this book. I did enjoy the romance especially in the later half of the book, seeing this couple fight for each other and for rights as individuals for freedom and self determination which wonderful and one of my favorite aspects. Overall I liked this one and very eager for more books in the series.

This is a dark, twisted shifter read. Starting off, I got a little confused at how old Hel was because of the ages thrown around. I was starting to think that the author was judging ages by dog years when it said that she was 14yo and working right before she gets sold. I thought i was going to have a problem reading the rest of the book, but once I reread the chapter and continued on I saw she was in her 20's (thank goodness).

That being said, this story is a definitely a darker read. There is shifter?!? trafficking, slavery, possible rape, violence, elements usually described in the "underside" of life. It's dirty and gritty and it's about survival, but it's all Hel knows how to do because her parents are addicts and she feels responsible for them. She has been working herself to the bone since she has was 7yo to protect them all for nothing, but they are her parents. When one too many debts backs her into a corner, they sell her to their Alpha kingpin to pay off their debts without a backward glance.

At 14yo, Marrok bound his soul the Alpha in the hopes that he would spare his baby sister from a life as a prostitute in exchange for his loyalty. Lies and betrayal, the truth is finally revealed leaving Marrok a hollowed make for the next 14 years for the choice he made. That is until he sees Hel.

Fates collide when these two meet and destinies change. Where once bleak exisitances before then, hope is on the horizon if they can make to slay their enemies. But will Marrok believe he is worthy of a second chance at life, at love and will be take it?

It's a hot and steamy story with plenty of action and supporting characters that I hope will get their own books. I really look forward to next book.

**. Thank you to NetGalley and the author for the opportunity to review this ARC. The above opinions are my own and have not been influenced by outside sources **

I do enjoy to try out new authors, because you never know what kind of gem you might find. And with Emily Stormbrook there is a new gem in town. Hel to pay is a gripping story, with twist and turns and a dark edge. It pulls you in and gets your panties in a damp twist. Because there are some steamy scenes there as well. But the story of Hel is intriguing and the history of Marrok is heartbreaking. And together: they are firework.
I'll be definitely be on the lookout for the next parts of this series.
Four out of five stars from me and a special thank you to Netgalley for providing the arc.

I am ready to read the sequel!

This is my first warwolf romance novel and I must say I throughly enjoyed it. This author took the time to create and describe the world that our two mates live in. One whereh their is one man who owns their whole tribe. He takes advantage of his ”alphaness” by prostituing women and forcing men to be his thugs. Well with this couple they’ve both been used and abused in their own ways in this system but after they found each other. They realized love conquers all!

I would highly recommend this book and I can’t wait for the sequels.

Rejected from birth, Hel has spent all her life taking care of her parents who had neglected her welfare. By the time she was seven Hel was doing chores in her neighborhood in exchange for money that she would use for school books.

When her parents found out however they decided that if she was old enough to work then she was old enough to help to take care of her family. Instead of going toward school books, the money she earned went to support their drug habit.

This went on right into adulthood with Hel working four jobs while her ungrateful parents continued to rack up more debt than she could safely repay. Then came the final thrust and Hel begins to understand just how little her parents cared about her.

Now she has been sold to one of the most dangerous, unscrupulous men with no hope of redemption.

Marrok has sold his service to the leader of the underworld, in exchange for his sister’s freedom. However, it wasn’t long after that he found out that he had betrayed him in the vilest way possible.

Now, has grown empty. The magical ties used to bind him has made it impossible for him to seek revenge.
Now Hel and Marrok have become firm friends. She is the first person that has been able to break down the wall he has built up around himself.

This book has very graphic adult content. It was an emotional rollercoaster ride. Once I began to read it I just couldn’t put it down.

In Hel to Pay, Emily Stormbrook has created a definite winner. I read this book in one sitting. I just couldn’t put it down.

This book wrung a lot of emotions from me.

I loved the portrayal of the antagonist. He is far from lovable but rather he proves himself to be a worthwhile opponent with just the right amount of evil to bring about the desired outcome.

The ending was everything I could have wished with just enough loose ends for me to look forward to the next one in the series.

I highly recommend this book to all those who enjoy a great fantasy romance with a lot of danger thrown in.

This book felt like it developed all the wrong parts of the plot, I wanted more of the relationship between the two main characters, however I was given an expository section on their relationship’s development. I was instantly intrigued in both characters, but never learned about their developing relationship. I felt abruptly pushed into their love without any build up. Overall, I think this book did a great job making you care for individual characters, however not for their relationships.

I received a complimentary copy of Hel to Pay in exchange for an honest review. Unfortunately, I did not realize until after I started the book that this was a fantasy type novel where the characters turn into animals and they have packs, and other strange things go on. Obviously this is not my typical genre, but I decided to finish what I started, The writing style was well done, and if it hadn't been for the shifting this would have been a pretty exceptional read for me. I was glad to finish this book, so I could find something closer to my normal genre.

Let me just start by saying how clever the title of this book is! At first, I was confused, but after having read the book, kudos to the author on the amount of thought that went into your book title. This book was well written and very engaging. There were some unforeseen plot twists which I appreciated.

Meh....

Very interesting and unique premise that fell short in execution. There seemed to be missing/ incomplete sections.

I voluntarily read an advanced copy.

I really enjoyed this story. I loved the characters and the difficulties they faced. Hel was a really strong female lead who has endured a lot in her life and is a fighter whose own strength gives Marrok the motivation needed to open up again.
I enjoyed the writing style. I spotted a couple of typos, but literally only a handful and nothing jarring. I really enjoyed the raunchy scenes, the first being rather emotional and dark, I enjoyed learning about Marrok's sister, Lana, and through the book understanding how what happened to her both broke and motivated him.
A lot of shifter romance have the insta-love for soul mates, but I enjoyed how they still had to work at it, making themselves and accepting parts of themselves and their past before the bond can complete. I thought the pacing and flow was great.
