Figs and Alligators is a memoir about Aaron and his wife Bonnie and their family, who decide to move to Israel in the 1970s and lived there for several years through the 1980s. I enjoyed the book and learning about their journey over the years. I found it interesting learning about the experiences they had there during this time period. I would recommend this book.

This was a very interesting memoir. I quite enjoyed reading about life in Israel during he 1970s. This is a perspective I haven't seen before. Having left my own native country to live in a different part of the world, I could relate to some of the challenges Leibel and Bonnie faced. They faced even more, however, with a different lagnuage to learn, as well as the cultural and economic differences. This is a great peek into life in Israel, as well as the challenges faced by immigrants.
I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley, and these are my honest thoughts about it.

Traveling to Israel we read the book written by Aaron Leibel, about his family’s years spent living in Israel. Figs and Alligators is the recollections of the years Aaron and his wife, Bonnie, took their family and moved from America to Israel. They lived there through the 1970s and 80s. Leibel worked a variety of jobs in Israel, finally as a reporter and editor for Israel newspapers. He also served as a soldier, called up in 1974. The family experienced living in Jerusalem, on a kibbutz. They experienced living there through the Yom Kippur and the first Lebanon War and they were there when Egyptian President Anwar Sadat made his historic visit, which led to the first peace treaty. This is a personal story of a family living day to day in a turbulent , beautiful
Nation.
