Ms. Archer once again has pulled me back into Santa Sofia in the sixth book of the Bread Shop series, Death Gone A-Rye. From the first page I was excited to spend time with Ivy, Olaya and Mrs. Branford to see what new adventures were waiting for me. Ms. Archer introduced a new character in this book who, for now, I am withholding judgement on. I will just say that he is one of those characters that I could love to hate at this point.

The story started off with Billy and Em's wedding which was beautiful and then a murder was called in. The murder investigation turns personal for Ivy when Miguel becomes a suspect. A quickly paced plot, several suspects that were viable considering the victim was not well liked, red herrings, twists and a reveal that made my heart hurt made this a book that I couldn't put down until I finished it.

This is only the second book I've read in this series, but I'd like to go back and start from book #1. Ivy is one of those characters who seems to have an awful lot of time to try to solve mysteries, as well as work in Yeast of Eden and try to get a photography business off the ground. But that's just one of the tropes of cozies, I guess. Still, she's a relatable main character, and I think the plotting's good. In this case, an unlikable school board president has been murdered, and Ivy's boyfriend is on the suspect list. So she has a reason to try to solve the case--and there are plenty of other suspects to consider. This was good read with a satisfying resolution. I really need to go back and start at the beginning of the whole series!

This was another enjoyable book in the bakery series. It moved along at a good pace. I do think there could have been a better connection to Ivy's reasons for investigating. I would have liked to have a bit more description of the town, I had a hard time visualizing it. I could not quite figure out what size it was, at times it was a tiny town, at others it was a larger one. I did see some clues that pointed to the ultimate culprit but it was developed as such that there could have been other possibilities as well.

Love this cozy series, and this book is no exception. Strong, solid characters, food to die for, exciting mystery, come together in an exciting story. Start with the first in series, for full enjoyment of Ivy and her cohorts.

Death Gone A-Rye carries on the tradition of excellence Winnie Archer introduced us to in the beginning of A Bread Shop Mystery. My attachment to these characters contributes to how much I enjoy each book in the series.
Ivy is naturally drawn to almost any mystery but when Miguel, the love of her life, is labeled as the top suspect, nothing can keep her from investigating the death of a local school board member. With her unintended team of her boss Olaya Solis, and eighty-six-years-young neighbor Penelope Branford, Ivy discovers that the woman is reprehensible and that there are many people who belong on that suspect list ahead of Miguel. Now she just has to convince the police of that and the only way she can see to do so is to find the real killer.
Heart is a big draw for me and this book touches mine deeply.
Thanks to NetGalley and Kensington for the chance to read the ARC of Death Gone A-Rye. It is a well written, well-paced novel with amazing characters and I enjoy sharing my love for the series and this book, not to mention getting to sneak and early read.

Ivy Culpepper wants to celebrate her brother’s wedding to the local police chief, but the newly weds have only just said their vows when the local school board president is found murdered.
With Billy and Emmeline on their honeymoon, Ivy is determined to help the new police captain find the killer whether he likes it or not! When Ivy’s boyfriend becomes the main suspect, the stakes really start to ramp up.
It does not take long for the dirty secrets, ambitions and dark family conflicts to emerge in this multilayered mystery, which is packed with twists and a shocker of a big reveal.

A cute addition to this great series, Ivy Culpepper find herself up to her elbows in suspects when another murder takes place in her small town.
I like this series and I’m alway happy to catch up with Ivy and her friends.

Death Gone A Rye by Winnie Archer was an advanced reader copy from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Ivy's brother Billy, and her friend, Emmaline, are getting married. Em is the sheriff now. Ivy works at Yeast of Eden, baking breads and sleuthing on the side. During the wedding a local school board president is killed. As Em is going on her honeymoon, Ivy will help look into it as her boyfriend, Miguel, is the number one suspect.
The relationship of the characters and how Ivy works at finding out the answers was intriguing. I enjoyed Winnie Archer's style of writing. She kept the story interesting and brought a lot of information into the story and allowed the reader to "see" the different characters. I love the idea that solving the case is like working a puzzle. This was a very enjoyable read and then there were some interesting recipes at the end of the book.

Billie and Em are getting married and Ivy is front and center with her bestie and brother for their big day. The wedding goes off beautifully on the beach and right before the reception the new Captain makes Em aware that there has been a murder in town. While Em is going on her honeymoon, she does ask Ivy to keep her updated on things while she’s gone.

With the new Captain in charge of the murder case, he decides that Miguel is his prime suspect and works hard to make the facts fit his case so he can arrest Miguel. While Ivy knows Miguel didn’t do it, she needs to get involved to clear her man and find out who murdered the president of the school board. Ivy, Olaya and Mrs. Branford put on their sleuthing hats and work together to ensure Miguel isn’t railroaded and Ivy doesn’t end up in permanent detention.

I adore this series! Each visit to Santa Sofia has me wishing for the surf and baking bread. I can’t wait to try the Van Dough Focaccia Bread! It will be a hit at our next family gathering for sure!

This being book six in the series, I need to confess to not having read the first five.
I was delighted to meet new characters to follow. Ivy and Miguel, recently reunited lovers, Emmaline and Billy, whose wedding starts the book out. Olaya the baker, Mrs. Branford, a former English teacher and Ivy's neighbor. And Agatha, the pug everyone loves. Each of these characters has their own back story that the author has craftily wound in the story without seeming repetitive or boring.
Ivy, along with being a baker and a photographer, is an amateur slueth.
Knowing everyone in the small town she grew up in makes it easy for her to ask questions and investigate.
Nessa, school board president, is found dead in the district offices. There is no shortage of suspects as it was well known that the murdered woman had many more enemies than friends.
Not wanting to reveal any spoilers, I will leave this review with a high reccomendation. I plan to back track and read more of Ivy Culpepper's sleuthing adventures!
