This was just a middle of the road read for me. The story grabbed me from the beginning and I was interested in the outcome, but there were too many times in which unbelievable events occured and characters made ridiculous decisions. This took some of the enjoyment out of the read. And in the end, there was still unexplained answers to certain events within the story that made it unsatifying when finished.

I'm a big fan of this author in general, and have read quite a few of their books. This one was captivating right from the very beginning. I found it hard to put down and absolutely flew through it, even though I was living a hectic life when I was reading it.

I'm a huge fan of books with multiple points of view, especially in a psychological thriller. This and the fact that there were multiple timeliness (now and 11 years before), made everything unfold in a wonderful way. I found that I was interested in every character's point of view and both timeliness equally, which is a huge feat!

The first major twist caught me so off guard I was in shock. The ending completely blew my mind! I highly recommend this one if you need a good thriller.

I really enjoyed this book and I think that it is Mary's Kubica's best story yet! I've been telling a lot of people to pick this up for their summer beach bag!

I think Mary Kubics’s new novel, Local Woman Missing is my favorite of her books.  First Shelby, a new mother, goes out for a jog one evening and never comes home.  Then a few weeks later, Meredith and her 6 year old daughter go missing from the same neighborhood .  The characters were very relatable, flawed but likable. A few times, i felt I was little confused by the shifting back and forth of time frames but this didn’t take away from the plot line.  I was not able to figure out who was responsible for the two  disappearances.  I kept jumping from one person to another, was it just one person responsible for both or were the two disappearances unrelated.  I did not not see the ending coming.   A definite page turner that will keep you guessing till the end.  If you are looking for  a good  read this summer, add this to your TBR list.

"Local Woman Missing" by Mary Kubica was a chilling, thrilling, fast moving mystery! As a young woman escapes her captors after 11 years in a dark basement, a surprising chain of events occur in resolving deaths and disappearances of persons in a small community. Very unpredictable and hard to put down story. Thank you NetGalley, author and publisher for the copy for review. All opinions are my own.

This book started off with much promise of becoming my favorite book of the year. I was on the edge of my seat with suspense. However, the plot became so convoluted between the time periods and different point of views ... I wasn't sure which was way up! I did finish this book rather quickly because I needed to see how things were going to pan out. However, the ending, unfortunately, did not make up for the middle. It felt so rushed and far fetched. I was super hopeful this would be a hit for me but sadly, it was a miss.

I've devoured several other of Mary Kubica's books so I was thrilled to dive into this one. I was hooked from the first page but that suspense and excitement quickly fizzled out for me. I can't put my finger on why I didn't really like this book but I think it just never really picked up for me and was rather boring. I will say that I did not see the big reveal coming but there was more to be explained I believe that wasn't explained and the book felt like it ended a little abruptly.

Mary Kubica is an expert at psychological thriller writing. She throws in twists that no one sees coming and no one can be trusted.
Delilah and her mom go missing and the mom is found dead in a remote hotel from an apparent suicide. Now six years later the daughter has escaped her captors but her life has not returned to normal. She doesn’t remember her brother from before she was taken. Her father is trying to price together what happened. The story is told from multiple viewpoints and timelines.

Thank you Netgalley for a copy in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts are my own.

Oh, Mary Kubica, you’ve done it to me again!

I love Kubica’s suspenseful and well-plotted writing and every time she produces a new novel I tell myself that I will NOT stay up all night reading it! And, of course, I do! This was a fast read (just a note that I started it and worried it would be too disturbing for me but it wasn’t). I do enjoy her stories, and she was a guest once on my good friend Amy’s blog (www.momadvice.com), so I discovered that Mary Kubica is a friendly and funny woman who is humble about her amazing writing accomplishments.

If you like suspense, don’t miss this one!

Thank you for making me part of the tour!

Mary Kubica is a fantastic author and I knew Local Woman Missing would be just as good as her other work. This is one of the best books I’ve read so far this year. We have Shelby, Meredith, Kate and Bee. All living in the same neighborhood. Shelby is missing and within weeks, Meredith and her daughter go missing. The story goes back and forth from past an present and also switches narrators. Delilah goes over her time in captivity, Kate goes over the past and present of the days leading up to Meredith and Delilah’s disappearances and Delilah’s return. Leo, Delilah’s brother goes over the present. I did NOT see the end coming. I will be recommending this to everybody I encounter.

Shelby Tebow is the first to go missing. Not long after, Meredith Dickey and her six-year-old daughter, Delilah, vanish just blocks away from where Shelby was last seen, striking fear into their once-peaceful community. Are these incidents connected? After an elusive search that yields more questions than answers, the case eventually goes cold.

Now, eleven years later, Delilah shockingly returns. Everyone wants to know what happened to her, but no one is prepared for what they'll find…

A terrifying thriller from a writer who never fails to bring our fears to shocking life, lock the doors and cancel your plans because Mary Kubica is back with a riveting new page-turner: Local Woman Missing.

Shelby Tebow’s disappearance sent shockwaves reverberating all around the local community. Everybody’s fears intensified when Meredith Dickey and her six year old daughter Delilah also went missing a couple of weeks later a couple of blocks away from where Shelby was last seen. The whole community is scared and everybody is terrified. With fear beating in the heart of the once peaceful neighborhood, uncertainty and terror are stalking the community’s streets leaving everybody to wonder whether these incidents were connected. As the police do not manage to find any answers, the case eventually goes cold. However, the sins of the past have a habit of resurfacing – as everybody discovers when eleven years later, Delilah makes a shocking return to the neighborhood.

After an absence of more than a decade, everybody wants to know what happened to her. Where did she go? Why did she stay away so long? And why did she decide to return after so long? Everybody is desperate to uncover the secrets of the past, but are they aware of just what they will find? Are they prepared for the shocking repercussions Delilah’s return is going to put in motion? As long-buried secrets come to light, nobody is safe and no one is prepared for just what is going to happen next…

Mary Kubica is at her chilling best with Local Woman Missing. Intelligently written, highly suspenseful and packed with twists and turns you simply will not see coming, Local Woman Missing is a superb thriller about devastating lies, dangerous secrets and past mistakes where the pages will just turn themselves.

Mary Kubica knows how to keep her readers in the palm of her hands with Local Woman Missing, she once again proves to be one of the thriller genre’s finest practitioners.

Right from the start, Local Woman Missing had me on the edge of the seat. A woman goes missing after a late night run leaving behind her newborn baby… we think it’s the husband. Then a mother and her daughter go missing. Are they related? Is there a serial killer on the loose?

The story was told by multiple narrators and switches from the past to the present, which sets a fast and tension-filled book. I liked that each character brought a unique perspective and elicited different emotions. This constantly kept me guessing as I learned new information from the various characters.

I really enjoyed Kubica’s writing and story, however the end seemed like too much of a stretch. One of the big plot twists totally surprised me, but the other one seemed too outlandish for me to believe, even though it’s what brought the story together. This often happens in thrillers, so I don’t let it sway me from the overall enjoyment factor. This one will definitely keep you guessing.

Local Woman Missing was a truly chilling book! The cover is perfect for this mysterious, twisty novel.

11 years ago Meredith and her daughter Delilah went missing without a trace. Now, another disappearance shocks the small community. Is the missing new mom connected to the disappearances from 11 years ago?

This novel started with a bang and the suspense ramps up throughout. There are a lot of moving parts and characters to suspect. I feel like the book lost its steam in the last half and I wasn’t as invested. The final twist, while well done and a complete surprise, was over the top and felt like it was just added for shock value. Don’t get me wrong, it was well written and I never saw it coming. However, it was not plausible and left me feeling pretty “meh” over the experience. Fantastic start, mid book slump, dramatic conclusion. There’s a lot to like and if you can appreciate the conclusion, you will love this novel of suspense! For me, this was 3.5 ⭐️ Thank you @parkrowbooks for the advance reader in exchange for my honest review.

This one started out strong and was even a scary while reading at night in bed however, it lost me towards the end. I was just ready to find out what happened. It will not keep me from reading other books from Kubica though. I am definitely a fan of hers. Overall 3 stars from me.

Here we go again with another Kubica book, if you’ve been following for awhile you know I have a love/hate relationship with her books, as in I always pick them up and read them but almost never love them.

Local Woman Missing begins with one missing woman and then only a few months later another woman in the neighbourhood along with her daughter disappear, the once peaceful community is now left in fear. Then 11 years later, Delilah, the missing daughter returns and everyone is wondering what happened to her.

For the most part the story/plot is quite interesting and like nothing I’ve ever heard before but its written in multiple POV’S which means they tend to include a lot of inner monologue. Local Woman Missing met somewhere in the middle for me, the story was interesting enough to convince me to finish the book, and I was genuinely surprised by the twist, but I still think the characters ramble on a tad too much and then it gets a little boring.

All in all I’m on the fence about recommending this book, but if you want to give it a try go for it, maybe borrow it from the library like I did.

Shelby Tebow is the first woman in this small town to go missing, then Meredith Dickey and her daughter, Delilah, vanish without a trace. Are these disappearances connected? Is there a serial kidnapper? Many questions emerge and evolve when Delilah reappears 11 years later with no memory beyond where she was kept.

This book has changing narrative POV beginning with Shelby (11 years prior), moving to Delilah (present-day), her brother (present day), The Dickey's neighbors (11 years prior), Meredith (11 years prior), etc. Mary Kubica makes sure to label each corresponding POV change/chapter; however, it was difficult to get into the various narratives, at first. After 1/4 of the book, I was able to catch the pace.

The book definitely left me guessing and I didn't ~really~ see the twist coming until maybe the last 100ish pages. There were some indicators, especially if you pay close attention to who is (and isn't) narrating in the present. The characters were super flawed (ex. affair mentioned in the first couple pages, lies between couples, lack of communication), but not completely unlikeable. Characters made VERY questionable choices that I'm not sure how realistic they would have been, and some of the characters acted straight-up clueless. I would have liked to learn about motivation, which having some POV from that character would have been helpful, but definitely a spoiler. Overall a pretty quick and suspenseful read that wrapped up quickly: iffy start, solid ride throughout, predictable to a degree, 3 stars.

This was one of my favorite books I've read in a long time! With all of the different storylines, I was worried they wouldn't all be wrapped up by the end of the book, but the way they were somehow all entertwined was fantastic! The twists had me audibly gasping. I loved this book.

When you read one of Mary's books -- you know you are going on a ride -- you just have no idea where she is going to take you!! She is the master of suspense and this book is one of my favorites by her!! Great concept -- missing woman and a little girl -- 3 POV's and 2 timelines -- buckle up!! I always love her first chapter!!

Shelby is aware that her husband, Jason, is cheating on her. Yet, she says nothing because she is, in fact, cheating on him. As she leaves for her late night jog, she is really going to meet her lover for a secret tryst. It’s not a love affair, it’s purely sex. When Shelby doesn’t return home, and her half buried body is found, suspicion lands squarely on her husband. Jason must surely be the murderer. Or, is he?

In the same neighborhood, Josh and Meredith live with their two children. Their marriage is happy and solid, though Josh constantly worries about Meredith’s job as a doula, which takes her out at all hours, and not always to the best neighborhoods. Meredith has no fear until she begins to receive threatening texts. When Meredith and her six year old daughter, Delilah, disappear, Josh is distraught, and tension runs high in the neighborhood. Meredith’s body is later found, with a note saying that Delilah is safe, but is somewhere she will never be found. Meredith obviously committed suicide. Didn’t she?

After years of abuse and captivity, a girl escapes her jailers and flees for her life. When she is found, she tells authorities her name is Delilah. She must be Josh and Meredith’s long lost daughter. Or, is she?

LOCAL WOMAN MISSING is a definite page turner with one twist and turn after another. Just when I began to think I might have figured things out, another curveball is thrown my way. The story is told from alternating points of view of those involved, as well as switching from when the incidents happened eleven years ago, to the return of Delilah today. There’s a lot of sadness in the story, particularly regarding Josh, as his losses have altered his life so much that he can’t really be there for his son. Delilah has spent years in such horrific conditions, that it’s a miracle she survived. Each chapter reveals a little more of each of the characters, as well as their secrets, leading to a totally unexpected conclusion. LOCAL WOMAN MISSING kept me reading non-stop, as the suspense was extremely well done, but the revelation of some human nature is the stuff of nightmares.

What a wild ride! My very first Kubica and definitely not my last. I was gripped by the very first chapter and couldn’t figure out what was going on, which is always a plus. It checked all the marks for me on what you expect from a gripping novel. Thanks for the copy!
