Girl, 11 follows Elle, a true crime podcast host who is examining the cold case of a serial killer in the hopes of finally uncovering his identity.

So I didn't like Elle and her 'it's all about ME' attitude, although I get the impression that I was supposed to. But I did have fun playing armchair detective with her and I really liked the podcast transcripts intertwined with the story.

Unfortunately the last third of the book became convoluted and the characters illogical behaviours were too frustrating for me to be able to get much enjoyment from the ending.

Girl, 11 by Amy Suiter Clark

Fast paced debut novel, Amy Suiter Clark introduces you to Justice Delayed a podcast hosted by Elle Castillo who has started a new season and obsession with The Countdown Killer (TCK). The author has a knack for bringing a podcast to life making me feel like I’m listening to a true crime pod instead of reading chapters on a book. The novel switches from recording transcripts of the podcast to the life of Elle as she is investigating the serial killer TCK. Elle is aided by her Medical Examiner husband Martín. Having a past as a social worker and the recent victims being children gives her more insight to this killer. Great read, I look forward to more by this author.

Unfortunately, I didn’t connect with this book.
I didn’t enjoy the podcast format so it was hard for me to read and get invested.
I think others will definitely love this book though, it just wasn’t for me.

Thanks to NetGalley for my advanced ebook copy.

What a fantastic read! This book is the story of a woman who hosts a podcast where she does a deep dive into a long unsolved mystery, much like the Serial podcasts from a few years ago. The current case she is investigating is a string of murders of young women and girls who were victims of a serial killer, The Countdown Killer. The chapters alternate between the events that she experiences and transcripts of her weekly podcast episodes. The first time author did a marvelous job of capturing the exact voice of this type of podcast, and interleaving it with a thrilling, suspenseful story. Great fun to read.

Thanks to Houghton Mifflin Harcourt for providing me with an advanced reading copy via NetGalley.

Wow! What a remarkable debut novel by Amy Suiter Clarke! This was so well written and hard to put down once I started to read.

I thought the format of the book was really interesting, using transcripts from a true crime podcast was a great way to learn about past events and the case history. In the first two parts of the book the podcast transcripts alternate with the story from the podcast host Elle’s perspective, but in part 3 we also get additional points of view including the Countdown Killer and his victims. There were enough clues given that you can piece parts of it together, but that didn’t take away from any of the suspense.

This was a fantastic and suspenseful thriller that I highly recommend. 5/5⭐️ Thank you to NetGalley and Houghton Mifflin Harcourt for providing me with this e-ARC to read and review. Girl, 11 will be available on April 20.

I AM OBSESSED!

Not only did I feel like I was seeing one of my regular true crime podcast on paper, but I felt as if I was actually involved with the case being discussed. I did see a few things coming while reading but most would figure out the “twist”. However, I felt like that was just me getting lost in #Girl11. 15/10 would recommend to read this!

As a true crime and podcast fan, I couldn’t resist this book and I’m glad I didn’t!
This was a fantastic debut novel, carefully plotted, edge of your seat, enthralling thriller.

I particularly loved Elle’s relationship with her husband, as often relationships are only shown as volatile and chaotic within books. Their relationship was something special and gave the character solace amongst the issues that she deals with while investigating for her podcast. Elle is a complex character to follow as she investigates the BTK killer, in this dark, disturbing, novel. For fans of I’ll be Gone in the Dark.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book! What a ride.

Extremely scary psychological thriller, impossible to put down. Elle is a former children’s social worker who does a true crime podcast. She is doing a series on a serial killer she believes was never caught. Some believe he was killed in a fire after his only surviving victim escaped, but she is gathering evidence to show she believes he is still at work. Taught, razor sharp story with unbelievable twists. Highly recommend.

Girl, 11 caught me completely by surprise, and I'm so glad it did. As a lover of true crime documentaries myself, I loved the narration style-- part transcripts from a true crime podcast, and part story of the podcast's host, Elle, who is dedicated to hunting down a serial killer that authorities presume dead. I truly marvel at the author's ability to have spun such a complex plot, and then narrate it a way which was both fresh and gripping. There was a reveal towards the 75% or so mark which I thought was extremely clever, Elle was likable without being annoyingly perfect, and the pace kept me hooked for two straight evenings. A definite must-read if you like true crime podcasts or documentaries, and police procedurals with a fresh twist.

Elle Castillo was a social worker specializing in child victims of violent crime. When the job became too much she changed careers and now hosts a true crime podcasts that tackles cold cases involving missing children from her hometown. Her new season focuses on a serial killer known as TCK (The Countdown Killer) who kidnaps and subsequently kills his victims using a mathematical ritual. Only one of his victims ever escaped; the killer presumed dead has been inactive for years, stopping at his eleventh victim. Certain he is alive, Elle is determined to catch a killer, her podcast presents new evidence...and then an eleven year old girl goes missing. Elle is certain the evidence points to TCK and she will stop at nothing to end his reign of terror.

Girl, 11 is a fantastic novel which focuses on a true crime podcast which seems to reignite a serial killer who has been dormant for years. I have to say that cover really caught my eye and then the plot synopsis ensured this was a must read for me. Elle is a determined but somewhat emotionally unstable woman who we later realize is a bit of an unrealizable witness type character. The story primarily alternates between the podcast and Elle searching for clues into TCK. This was a well written, novel which ultimately takes you into the mind of a serial killer and the reasoning behind his methods. As distressing as the subject material is (abduction, abuse, and murder of children) I had a hard time putting this one down. If you enjoy true crime, cold case files, and serial killers then this is definitely a novel you should check out.

After reading some romantic chick lit and having a hard time sinking my teeth into a book as I had a few DNFs before this book. I always find myself enjoying murder mysteries when I am in a reading slump. This book is a little bit different as the format is a podcast run by Elle. She is a true-crime fanatic and runs a cold case/ unsolved crime podcast and currently she is featuring the TCK Killer aka The Countdown Killer whom with each abduction and murder, the killer goes down in age. Starting with 21 years old. Elle is connected to the TCK killer and is convinced that after all these years he is back and picking up where he left off with the one who got away when she was 11 years old. However, the rest of the police departments and authorities aren't convinced as they think Elle is on an obsessive journey and wild goose chase. What will happen when someone close to Elle gets kidnapped? Will they listen to her then or will Elle's friend's daughter be Girl,11. The book is written as if we are reading a Podcast script which I did get used to but could annoy some readers. If you love true crime podcasts and serial killers, then Girl 11 by Amy Suiter Clarke is the read for you.

What would you do to save the lives of children from a serial killer? What would you do if no one believed you?

Girl, 11 by Amy Suiter Clarke is a thriller written in chapters that alternate between episodes of a true crime podcast, Justice Delayed, that the main character Elle records and present and past tense moments from multiple points of view relating to the Countdown Killer, his victims, and the investigation to bring justice to those he’s harmed.
This book was different than other thrillers I have read recently due to the podcast element, changing points of view and movement of time between past and present.
Enough clues were given throughout to keep me guessing and trying to solve the case, but not enough was revealed to spoil the ending or the journey.
Overall a very enjoyable read and I will be looking for more books by Amy Suiter Clarke in the future!

Elle is the host of a podcast that focuses on cold cases. Her current podcast is about an unsolved serial killer from 20 years ago who kidnapped and killed young girls, with the victims’ ages counting down from 20. “Girl, 11” is a thoroughly creepy and immensely entertaining novel dealing with Elle’s efforts to identify and bring to justice that serial killer. It’s nonstop suspense from the opening pages, absolutely great plot, and a thrilling finish. Set aside some time, as you will not be able to stop once you start this book, and that’s no hyperbole. Fantastic debut novel, can’t wait for the next one. Five huge stars! I received an arc of this book from the publisher through @NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This was a very good story, especially if you enjoy podcasts about true crime. Elle has a podcast Justice Delayed, where she focuses on cold case crimes in an effort to bring them attention and to drum up any tips from her listeners. She decides to turn her attention to the Countdown Killer (TCK), the nickname given to a person that had killed a number of young women 20 years ago based on their age. He started by kidnapping a woman that was 20, kept her for 7 days, and on the 7th day he left her dead body in an area where she would be found. Just before releasing her, he kidnapped a woman who was 19 and so on. The murders suddenly stopped and the case went cold. Elle has decided to spotlight the case in an effort to reveal the identity of the murderer. Then a young girl goes missing and Elle thinks the TCK has started his countdown again. The story is told in the form of podcast transcripts and from Elle's point of view. This works well for this story and I stayed up late to finish. A very good story, I recommend. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC

I read the majority of this book in one sitting--something I rarely do, but I just couldn't put it down. GIRL, 11 is an expertly crafted, fast-paced thriller. As a true crime podcast addict, I absolutely loved the way the narrative was weaved with transcripts. Amy Suiter Clarke took great care in her depiction of the victims, in her message about our fascination with serial killers, and with every page of this book. I absolutely loved it and really hope this is going to be a series. Give me more Elle Castillo, please. Highly recommend.
