Here is an invitation to ninety-nine drawing prompts to draw inside, outside, on, or around! Each page encourages young artists to think of a solution to a prompt, or in other words, to solve a problem. The artist can choose his / her own tools: pencil, crayon, paint, chalk, ink, etc. The prompts are open-ended with an infinite number of solutions! A child could react to the same prompt at a later date with a completely different drawing, depending on how he/she feels or what is happening then. This book is just that flexible!

Prompted drawing should not be considered better than free drawing but is a supplement to it. These prompts spark creative thinking skills as well as critical reasoning. The book offers the child and a viewer the chance to enjoy quality time together. What a beautiful opportunity for children to tell their own stories. These prompts offer growing artists a chance to shine and feel good about their accomplishments. There are prompts about everything!!!

Jean Van't Hul has a degree in art history and studio art. She has found drawing prompts to be quite successful with children. In the introduction, she gives parents suggestions as to when this book would be handy! She even shares ideas that will take young artists beyond this book! She recommends this book for ages 4 and up. Van't Hul hopes children will think and draw inside and outside of the box using this book!

Invitation to Draw is a fabulous collection of drawing prompts and starts waiting to be finished. This book would be great for rainy days or snow days when the kids are bored and tired of everything they have already done a hundred times.

Thank you NetGalley and Roost Books for the opportunity to read an advance reader's copy.

Invitation to Draw is an art book with 99 simple drawings to be used as a starting point in encouraging the creation of art. The drawings also include a small text that further encourages the process.

I love prompts. Having a starting point to get the creative juices flowing can be an extremely valuable thing. Introducing this tool to children with Invitation to Draw can open up their eyes to the wonder of art. Hul lays it all out for parents. There are lists of drawing supplies, ideas to create additional prompts, and explanations into the value of free drawing.

There are many prompts in this book in a variety of forms. Everything from nature to abstract. I like the variations Hul has put into this book. I think this book will be a valuable resource for parents of elementary schoolers.

Thank you to @netgalley, Roost Books and the author for this free ARC.

I loved this. As a mom of a 4 year old and a 2 year old girls who (thankfully) love to doodle all the timeI found this book really helpful.
It has lots of ideas that help children both draw, learn new things and what's most important teach them to use their imagination.
It is lots of fun and one prompt can turn out different each time you pick it out 😊

Wonderful book all in all!!

So much fun to draw with my kids. I had the ebook, I shared my screen to my TV so we could all draw together, compare drawing, have fun together. My 5-year old could follow along and have fun with her 13-year old sister.

**I received this book from NetGalley for an honest review.

Having seen the power of art in my English/Language Arts classroom, and having been the kind of kid who doodled and sketched, I appreciate the invitations in Jean Van't Hut's book. This is a book to explore, enjoy, and feature in classroom practice and at home. It's clearly organized, appealing, and creative.
