James Cusumano is an interesting person—a lead singer at a young age, a recipient of a Ph.D in chemistry, a research scientist for Exxon, an incredibly successful entrepreneur and the owner of one of Europe’s fanciest castle hotels.

Cusumano is committed to exploring consciousness, something he explores at length in Life is Beautiful. Cusumano’s life has followed an interesting progression—a young man getting by on very little sleep while in the music scene, who then sought knowledge, who then sought wealth and has circled back to exploring the meaning of life and what comes after life.

Cusumano himself coined the phrase that best describes this book: spiritual physics. He describes the different levels of consciousness: Personal, Collective and Cosmic. Personal can be divided into conscious and subconscious. Collective consciousness is akin to Jung’s “collective unconscious” concept, that we all have shared symbols and archetypes. Cosmic consciousness is akin to the idea of the soul. All in all, the book presents a flood of concepts, which leaves the reader with a lot to think about it and offers the reader great hope.
