As someone who has spent my entire life struggling with my weight and disordered eating, I wasn't sure what to expect with Liv Stratman's Cheat Day. Would it portray diet culture accurately? Would it be triggering? I was skeptical, but the complex romantic element convinced me to read anyway. And, lo and behold, I really enjoyed the story and related to it on a number of levels.
First, the restrictive eating affecting Kit's social life and relationships. So accurate, and I haven't seen that portrayed in a novel before.
Second, Kit's boredom with her "safe" husband and desire for more. Unfortunately, I can really relate here. Not sure if there's a correlation between never being sated with food and never being sated with love, but I like the way these plot elements worked together.
Third, this book is so much more than chick lit. Based on the cover, I didn't expect it to be so deep. It really does probe so many issues involving womanhood, and in such a cohesive, un-preachy way. I'd definitely recommend it.

I tried really hard to get into this book but found myself having a hard time connecting with the characters, super bummed

This book was really enjoyable. The main character feels stuck and she is reaching out to different ways to shake up her life -- often to problematic effects for her and the people in her life. I found this story engaging and a great read. Recommended!

I found this to be an earnest, realistic portrayal of how the bonds of marriage can slowly erode and an affair begin.
Kit's struggles to quiet the negative voices in her head make her decision to embark on an extra marital relationship understandable, even if not exactly commendable. I loved the descriptions of the Brooklyn neighborhoods, which, like Kit's food pathology, rang true. Indeed, the way in which she adopted one "program" after another under the guise of health is a formula all too familiar for many women, and as with Kit, is often the symptom of other issues. What I most appreciated about the book was the way it ended -- for fear of divulging too much, I will just say that is was satisfying and true to the characters.

I absolutely loved this novel. Cheat Day is a clever, funny and intriguing exploration of relationships, cheating - on diets and people, and the (lacking) sense of control in our lives.

It has been a long time since I've read a novel that made me feel so entertained and reflective at the same time. It follows Kit and David, a seemingly perfect married couple living in a cute home in Brooklyn. While David is a successful high flyer, Kit has lost her drive somewhere along the way. While Kit works at her sister's bakery, she never eats anything baked there. She stays sane by dieting and exercising compulsively, cheating on her diet and her husband,

I have seen a couple of negative reviews regarding the "annoying" and unreliable main character Kit, and I honestly thing this is what's so special about this book. It explores the complexity of a relationship in which one person, David here, is the definition of success, while the other one, Kit here, is just stuck. I found Kit very relatable in her difficult character and obsessive tendencies, especially with cycles of fad dieting. She knows that she should be happy with all she has, but can't hep feeling trapped and troubled, which may come off as pathetic to some readers.

Memorable, clever and funny, this book was a huge hit for me.

First, I’d like to say thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the chance to read an ARC of this book.

I really tried to like this book, but had trouble connecting with main the character and even the secondary characters. I decided to continue to push through, but still couldn’t connect with the characters or story. Unfortunately, this book just wasn’t for me.

I picked this up thinking I would read it in a weekend but it took me much longer since I’ve become so chronically distracted by news and
other unreliable reads. I have always thought that the best writ era writing about Brooklyn work at Books Are Magic which takes up epic mythical space in my California never been to NY head. This book has all the true joy of fiction, well written relatable if writ large characters, good plot a moderate amount of humor and one of the best ending ever, no complaints the book deserves total and not the sporadic attention
I paid to it.

Thank you to the author and publisher for giving me the opportunity to read this book in advance.

Unfortunately, the extremely unlikeable main character mixed with the unhealthy diet obsession created a somewhat toxic book. It wasn’t enjoyable especially for someone who may have triggers related to food or diets.

I did not finish, but think Kit could do with some more redeeming qualities to at least make you want to root for her!

While I appreciate the opportunity to read this book early, I am sad to say it just did not connect with me.

The main character is exceptionally unlikeable, and while I have read other stories with horrible main characters usually the supporting "cast" makes the story worthwhile. Not so in this book. I found her husband, David, to be spineless and boring. Kit was a hot mess.

I grew tired of her diets.--oops! I mean "programs"--and fixation on weight even though she was sure to tell us toward the beginning of the book that she was 30lbs lighter than her sister. Then she has an affair just because she could, basically.

Nah, I'll pass.

DNF. Unfortunately, this was a book I started multiple times but could just not get into. The "dieting" premise was a major turn off and I just could not connect with the main character. I appreciate having the opportunity to read this book, it was just not a good fit for me as a reader.

Unfortunately this was a book I started and did not finish. I found the main character to be very annoying in terms of her diet program.
She wasn’t a character I could connect to and I found myself wanting to skip pages waiting for the “good part” to come.

An annoying main character who is obsessed with dieting ("it's not a diet, it's a program!) and who cheats on her husband just because she feels like it. She's super self-absorbed, furiously quitting her job working for her sister's bakery until she goes slinking back in two months later. I just felt bad for every other character that she interacted with.

Kit has food issues and has relatiobship issues with her husband David. She begins a new very familiar to her restrictive diet and is forced i to working in a bakery. Enter Matt, a carpenter who opens her eyes to life. An interesting take on diet culture. I enjoyed reading this book.
