This short story follows Sophia and Henry, the former a repressed socialite simultaneously in search of adventure and a husband, while the latter is a bit of a playboy who gets some bad news and must return home to try to improve his social standing. The story begins with a chance encounter between them in Venice and follows them home to England afterwards.

I have seen some other reviews that people disliked the characters or not much happened in the story but I have to say my quick piece about that. Sophia and Henry were both flawed characters and their internal monologues and outward shenanigans were rather fun to read. I don't believe the intent was for this to be an action packed short story. This was much wittier than I expected it to be, and I quite enjoyed that aspect. I loved Henry as a character! He was witty and just a bit *naughty*.

My level of enjoyment whilst reading sits somewhere nicely around a four star experience, however I wonder if looking back on it I will not remember it as well and it may fade from view for me rather quickly, making it more of a three star read. I am curious whether reading Stephen's relevant novel would have any bearing on one's enjoyment of this novella. It may be the case that it would be regarded more fondly by readers who are already familiar with the characters (albeit 20 years later I believe).

Overall, it felt like a fun Georgian era short story, as it should. I enjoyed the author's writing style and while prior to reading this I had no intent of reading her novel, I may very well pick it up now.

Lady Sophia is a novella that first takes place in Vienna for the first few days and then continues back in England. I wanted the story to jump out and grab me. Sophia and Henry seemed unhappy I found them unlikeable.

The story felt bland and I wanted more romance. This just wasn’t for me.

Thank you, BooksGoSocial via Netgalley for this ebook in exchange for my honest review.

The description had me intrigued but I found the story disappointing. I was expecting more debauchery set against the background of Venice, however the only remotely scandalous thing that happened on the page was Sophia sneaking out to pose for a painting. The story would probably be considered a clean romance which was not what I thought it would be. The story was a quick read; I think it took me all of 30 minutes. It was in no way bad, and I found some of the tongue in cheek humor fun. I probably would of have liked it more had I read the Pamela Stephen books where the Sophia and Henry first appear and knew better what to expect from her as an author.
