K like .. thank you SO much to NEtGALLEY and Simon and Schuster YA for my advanced copy!

This was the sweeeetest book. Not just sweet. That doesn’t even begin to say enough. I wanted a sort of easy, YA read and I got SO so so much more then that.

There is so much depth to these characters and this story. It is incredibly well written and I absolutely can not wait to read another work by Raquel Vasquez Gilliland!

Moon will be forever in my ♥️

How Moon Fuentez Fell in Love with the Universe is a charming and witty coming-of-age love story that incorporates rich cultural heritage, spirituality, sexuality, heartbreak and self-discovery.

Raquel Vasquez Gilliand has written a captivating novel that addresses difficult topics with grace and humour, and has created an authentic and relatable protagonist, in the character of Moon Fuentez. This young adult novel is inspiring, even to an adult audience, and encourages the reader to embrace their own unique identity.

Moon Fuentez, a talented budding artist and twin sister to the Fotogram sensation Star Fuentez, has resigned herself to be a faceless photographer, until a fateful cross-country promotional tour as a "merch girl", forces her to confront the beliefs that she holds about herself and the world around her. Much to her dismay, Moon finds herself the bunkmate of grumpy, hunk Santiago Philips, who seems to despise her very existence. Moon is forced to navigate the complex relationships of those closest to her and examine her own identity through a new lens.

It took me approximately one paragraph to fall in love with Moon Fuentez. She’s one of the most enchanting female characters I’ve read in a long time, and as well as loving her, I saw a lot of myself in her. Moon is extremely relatable, but far from in a Mary-Sue kinda way, which is often hard to pull off.

The enemies to lovers romance between Moon and Santiago had me blushing almost the entire book. The chemistry between the two of them is insane. It wasn’t all just about the romance though. Moons relationship with almost every other character was so fleshed out and interesting. From her abusive mother, complicated twin, to even minor side characters, I loved reading it all.

I think, though, what will really keep me thinking about this story for the next while, is the beeeeaaautifil imagery. Everything is compared to stars, clouds, flowers bugs, colours, the universe, in the best possible way.

My only wish is that the characters had been aged up, just by a couple of years. I know it would have thrown a wrench in a couple of things like university, but that’s what gap years are for! It just felt a little weird sometimes, with there being so much focus on sex for Moon to be 17 for most of the book. It’s quite risqué for being classified as YA rather than New Adult.

If you love enemy to lovers, family relationships, divination or anything similar, curses, and personal growth, you’ll love How Moon Fuentez Fell in Love with the Universe.

LOOOOVED this book so much oh my gosh this made me ache in the best possible way and it made me want to twirl around in the woods. There were some cringey parts like the mc having corny thoughts (she says heckle instead of heck or hell lol)
