I owe a very delayed thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an eARC of this book. I was so intrigued by this premise at the time I requested it, but life got in the way of me actually reading it prior to publication. I’m so happy I finally got back to it!

“Sometimes we get so tied up in our idea of what we think we want that we miss out on the amazingness of what we could actually have.”

I read 75% of this book in one sitting and didn’t even notice how much I’d read because I was having so much fun. Liz is very much “not like other girls” and in need of a good therapist so Wes and Helena really carried this story… but ultimately, it was very satisfying. It was nice to see how Liz grew up a bit over the course of the book in a way that felt authentic for the transformative last few months before college. It was fun to see how her mom’s romcoms played into the plot as well!

Here's how it goes: Lynn writes a book, I recieve the book, I read the book, I give the book 5-stars, rinse and repeat.

Thanks to NetGalley / Edelweiss and the publisher for providing me with an eARC of this book in exchange for a review.

This is the typical enemies to lovers trope that I love. A classic romcom with YA tendencies. I really enjoyed this book and think Lynn Painter knows her romance.

Talk about swoon-worthy! This book was so adorable. This was the perfect YA romance that I could just picture as a movie in my head. I loved all the rom-com references, even if I hadn’t seen a lot of the movies, and now I want to watch them all! As usual, Lynn Painters writing was so seamless and easy to read. This is definitely a new favorite YA for me. Liz and Wes will forever have my heart!

5 fat stars! I absolutely adored this! This is perfect for fans of To All the Boys I've Loved Before. This felt like such a love letter to rom-com lovers and it ATE IT UP! The tension! The angst! The handling of grief and coming-of-age! It was everything my YA-loving heart could ask for!

Please ignore the fact that I have slept on this book for a solid two years--I will not make this mistake again! This book was THE CUTEST!!! The characters are all great, the banter, flirting, and tension is top-notch, and the ending is a 10/10. I know this one already has a zillion great reviews so I won't rehash what has been said for, well, two years, but if you haven't picked this up yet, do it! It's perfect for teens and I will be shoving it into my students' hands immediately.

Pretty in Pink, 16 candles, When Sally Met Harry, are all iconic romantic comedies that have defined a generation. But for Liz Buxbaum it has defined her entire relationship with her deceased mother. She wants to have the perfect meet cute and blissful swept off her feet moment but will that blind her from what she really needs? This is a DUFF with depth and character development. Liz was every high school girl trying to get the perfect high school rom com romance. She was funny but flawed and allowed for growth. Liz's male counter part was funny and allowed to have a multidimensional personality. Funny, romantic and full of rom com references.

i was nervous for this because of the high expectations that has come with this book, but they couldn't be more right. This book was amazing, such a light hearted YA romance. BUT i needed more WES!!!

I loved the boy next door romance. It was just so sweet and their chemistry was great. The other did a wonderful job with developing the two main characters. Even though it was a young adult the writing was still very well done. I can’t wait to see what Lynn Painter comes out with next.

I absolutely LOVED and adored this book. Without a doubt one of my favorite books of the year. After finishing this, I think it is safe to say I will forever read anything Painter writes next!

Thanks NetGalley for the preview!

This book had a ton of predictable elements but I loved the sweetness. Liz and Wes were super cute and had a slow burn. I loved the parent characters and their input. I finished this book in a day because the story just kept me so hooked. I also really enjoyed the tie in rom com quotes!

4.5 stars rounded up!

Liz Buxbaum’s neighbor Wes has always been her nemesis. He’s been picking on her since they were kids. When her long time crush, Michael moves back home, Wes decides to help Liz get him by pretending they’re dating.

Let me start off by saying I loved all the movie references throughout this book. The way each chapter started with a quote from a movie made my romcom loving heart so happy.

This book is definitely filled with dating tropes in particular enemies to lovers and fake dating. If you like these tropes this book is definitely for you. I personally struggle with both of these, but absolutely loved this book. I loved Liz and Wes and wanted them to end up to together. Wes was written so well and I was rooting for him to get the girl.

My only issue with this book was that Liz was written a bit immature. I get she wasn’t popular and didn’t go to parties, but she seemed years younger than the other characters when she was the same age. This really was my only concern and knocked my rating down half a star.

This was a great young adult contemporary romance, and I really look forward to reading more from Lynn Painter. Plus look at that amazing cover with romance movies recreated!

Thank you NetGalley and Simon and Schuster Children’s Publishing for a copy in exchange for my honest review.

I wanted to really like this novel but just could not get into it. It was a DNF for me. Hoping someone else with different tastes likes it

his was a love story about love stories, the ultimate love letter to rom-coms. I really liked the way the author addressed Liz’s struggle with moving forward after her mother died. The lines that hit the hardest in the heart was “ my life is changing and moving forward, and she’s being left behind with my childhood.“ Anyone who has lost a loved one will completely relate to that. Thank you for this story!!

A cute, quick, easy read! I really enjoyed it. There were a few moments I wanted more from, but other than that I really liked the characters and their relationships, which is something I find really important in a novel.

I thought this book was really cute. I enjoyed the chemistry between the characters and how whitty it was.

This delightful; rom-com is based on classic rom-com movies (and even makes references to many of those movies at the beginning of each chapter, which I felt was a really nice touch). I loved the banter between the characters and felt like I could personally relate a bit to Liz (as I'm also an avid vinyl collector and took piano lessons from a young age). It was great watching the relationship develop between these characters. and overall, I thought this was an incredible YA contemporary rom-com!

This was a romcom based on romcom movies that we all love. It was really cute, albeit the near misses and miscommunications were just a bit too much. I loved the characters and wanted to see more of a connection rather than the close-calls with Wes. I guess I wanted Liz to recognize that Michael was the James Spader in her love story much sooner than she did!
