The premise of this book was really good and it had me intrigued for a little while in the beginning but then it kind of feel apart. There was a lot going on plotwise with the book as well as character wise. It felt scrambled and all over the place at times. The plot would become too exaggerated and the characters were stereotypes. Unfortunately Diedre as a main character was not likeable at all. Also there should be a trigger warning for self harm and abuse and sexual assault in this book. All three of these were used inappropriately in book for the purpose of trying to give characters depth but instead were just disappointing and offensive.
While I did not enjoy this book I do think there are those out there who may as it was a quick action packed thriller. Just not my cup of tea.
Thank you to the publishers and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
While the first chapters seemed promising,it soon turned into a boring read.
It's told in two POVs, Deirdre's and Theo's: The first one is a bland character that often mentions how much she "kicks ass"(the amount of times I had to read that----)when in reality my fish "kicks more ass" than her. Theo was okay I guess... At first I thought his chapters were unnecessary and removed the whole mystery from the plot but in the end I realized he had the most decent chapters and storyline.
Nothing important and interesting seemed to happen for the majority of the book except for the last 10-12% where the mystery is solved and we're all saved yay.. I didn't care for the twists, the plot or the rest of the characters in general ๐คท๐ปโโ๏ธ๐คท๐ปโโ๏ธ๐คท๐ปโโ๏ธ
Super meh. Her Last Breath is slightly messy, somewhat boring, and generally lacking authenticity. But, for all that, there isn't anything WRONG with it, there just...isn't anything particularly right either.

With more messages being discovered, Deirde believes there is more than one person who would want to see her sister dead! The Thraxton family was hiding a lot of secrets. Theoโs father and sister didnโt seem to like him and cared the least about his life.

The beginning was quite grasping with vivid characterisation, each deeply flawed and struggling with their different stories. The idea of keeping the curiosity high somewhere led the story in too many directions. The story was shared in two POVs of Deirde and Theo.
Deirde was quite strong throughout but still believed a lot of people she shouldnโt have.
There are still some questions that were left unanswered and i am not the one to be left on a cliffhanger.
This was my third book by Hilary Davidson, and one of the things I love about her books is that the endings always surprise me! I feel like Iโm constantly figuring out thrillers early so itโs a breath of fresh air to be surprised.
Iโm pretty sure my brain accused every character of killing Caroline at some point.
I flew through this fast-paced thriller. I loved the alternating POV between Deirdre and Theo. I enjoyed the plot and the flawed characters. Great job again, Hilary!
The day after attending the funeral of her sister, Deirdre receives a cryptic message from Caroline telling her that the death would be no accident, and claiming that Carolineโs husband, Theo, murdered his first wife and got away with. Not one to back down from a challenge, Deirdre digs into the disturbing secrets Caroline was hiding, beginning by confronting Theo with the message. Theo then sets out to do his own digging, starting with his own dysfunctional family. The tale shifts back and forth between Deirdre and Theo and the conclusion brought a satisfying closure to the story.
What a great book! I have been waiting so long for another great thriller/mystery book that would pull me in from a get go and would not let me go. This was definitely it. Such an intriguing premise and well defined main characters that I was rooting for them (without even knowing if one of them was a bad guy) and was so curious to learn more that I finished the whole book in one day. I often skim some parts or dialogues because so few novels nowadays are well written enough to pull you in, as if you are transformed and became one of the characters, and not add any unnecessary dialogues or details. But this one was quite an exception to me - I read every sentence and now it is one of my favorites. I definitely want to read more of this author.
The ending was not my favorite because it felt more like a Hollywood movie and it all got wrapped up with a bow. I wish for a more realistic ending. But nevertheless it didn't spoil the book for me.
Thanks to NetGalley for a free copy.
This is a thriller with suspense!
The question is: "Who killed Caroline"? There is absolutely no possible way that she died suddenly from a heart attack at such a young age. No way, no how!
Her sister Deirdre receives an email from Caroline after her death, stating that her demise was not accidental and Deirdre should pursue this and find the truth!
The quest begins! Deirdre will stop at nothing to find the truth!
If you enjoy thrillers,, craziness and suspense, this is for you!
It is a quick read that is for sure!
I needed to learn what Deirdre learns!
You will be shocked!
Plot: Deidre is shocked when her young and healthy sister suddenly passes away. Adding to the shock: she receives an email from her sister accusing her wealthy husband, heir to a Trump like hotel organization, of killing her.
I had trouble putting this novel down even though it has plenty of faults. The characters are not likable and donโt get developed throughout the book. The plot was pretty predictable and the ending was not realistic. However, despite the above, the book was a nice easy read that I really enjoyed.
Solid 3.5 stars
Her Last Breath was my first book by Hilary Davidson but it definitely will not be my last! I will definitely be purchasing One Small Sacrifice, shortly!
When Deirdre's sister, Caroline dies suddenly, Deirdre is overcome with grief. A few days later Deirdre is confused as she has received a message from Caroline written before her death outlining that her death will not be an accident. Dierdre suspects Theo, Caroline's husband and accuses him of killing his first wife and getting away with it. Theo shows his true colors and his boiling temper and tries to tell Deirdre that Caroline was having an affair.
Deirdre sets out to find out the truth and in the process secrets about Caroline are revealed.
Who is responsible for Caroline's death and who was Caroline, truly?
Great read, absolutely loved it! This was a very fluid novel that read easily from start to finish! Highly recommend
Absolutely loved the twists and turns and Her Last Breath had me on the edge of my seat! I was hooked from the first page until the very last page and I plan on buying the Audible version!
It was my first time reading anything by Davidson and it definitely won't be my last!
Gripped me right from the beginning and until the very end!! Hilary Davidson did an amazing job with this book! The following of two different, yet equally corrupt families was intense and very interesting to look at. However, I wish there was a bit more character development from Deirdre and Theo. Overall, I really did enjoy the storyline and the whole premise of the plot. โญ๏ธโญ๏ธโญ๏ธโญ๏ธ
Her Last Breath by author Hilary Davidson was an okay read. It was good but not overly exciting. Iโm not even sure I would call it a thriller but maybe more of a suspense. Itโs the story of Deirdre, who after the death of her sister Caroline, receives an email from her deceased sister telling her that if she ends up dead then it will have been her husband Theo that did it. From there Deirdre decides to follow up and prove exactly what happened to her sister and who is to blame. Right away I had this feeling that Theo was not the bad person that he was made out to be. There are some twists to the story that make it more enjoyable and some parts were really gruesome. I think revenge might have been a motive for some. Overall, what I took from the story was that you canโt change your past but itโs just that and you should put it behind you and live for today. Some people have sketchy pasts, shady parents and just plain awful childhoods but tomorrow is a new day. You should make the best of it and try to forgive. Iโd like to thank NetGalley for the arc to read and review. Iโm going to rate this at 4 stars.
I loved this book. Itโs a very fast paced and entertaining thriller. I loved how the chapters switched back and forth between two main characters It really kept my interest leaving me wanting me to read more. The writing itself is well developed but simple enough to quickly finish this novel in a few days. The mystery itself was exciting with lots of twists and turns that keeps the reader guessing until the very end. I highly recommend and canโt wait to read more from this author!
When Caroline Thraxton suddenly dies while out on an early morning jog at a New York City park, her sister Deirdre is devastated. Then Deirdre gets a text message Caroline sent days earlier warning that her death would be no accident and that her husband Theo had killed his first wife and gotten away with it.
Paranoid and armed with just enough information to make her dangerous, Deirdre digs into the disturbing secrets and weird goings-on within the Thraxton hotel empire and the dysfunctional members of the family. Meanwhile, Theo is determined to confront demons from his past and travels to Berlin, Germany for answers. Theo and Deirdre join forces to protect Caroline and Theo's young son Teddy from a twisted fate.
This was a thrilling read and one of the first books I have read that includes direct references to the impact of the pandemic on everyday life.
I received a digital ARC from Netgalley and Thomas & Mercer with no requirememts for a review. I voluntarily read this book and provided this
Her last breath by Hilary Davidson is one of my favourite books of the year so far.ย
I was lucky enough to read an arc back in February and just reread it again this weekend. I loved it.ย
From the first chapter to the last, I couldnโt stop reading, Iโve held my breath so many times and now I know for sure that this book is going to my all-time favourites thrillers.ย
Gripping, addictive and so suspenseful, soย ย challenging and lots of unexpected twists ( especially the last vampire bite) so many emotions and heart. Loved the closure with the family members and how much Deidre wonโt give up to her beliefs.ย
There are so many elements that go hand in hand in here, from psycho to police procedural and criminal investigation. Just perfectly done. I canโt recommend it enough!

I am not sure how I feel about this domestic thriller. On the one hand it featured unreliable narrators (I love this!) and some plot twists. On the other hand I could not connect with the setting in the world of โThe Richโ.
We meet Deirdre who receives a message from her dead sister, Caroline. Her sister states that she didnโt die because of an accident. Instead she claims that her husband Theo is the culprit who also killed his first wife. Of course Deirdre is desperate to find out what really happened to her sister.
The story is told through different POVโs which keeps it interesting. All in all a three and a half stars read for me.
Thanks a lot #NetGalley # Thomas & Mercer for the ARC of this book
Thank you to the author and Thomas & Mercer for sending a copy of Her Last Breath by Hilary Davidson for me to review.
Her Last Breath Is a family drama with a lot of action. When Deirdeโs sister dies unexpectedly, she receives an email that puts her accidental cause of death into question. This one had a lot going on, maybe a little too much in the end, but it was a quick and fun read.
Amazing read which i really enjoyed, the author has a way of keeping you engaged and wanting to turn the page, i really love this type of writing and the author really shone with it. The storyline was captivating, i really enjoyed this book and would thoroughly recommend to book readers, friends and/or family.
Promising Premiseโฆ
A sisters death, an ominous message, familial secrets and a mystery to uncover. As a heartbroken Deirdre heads out to Manhattan for her sisters funeral what will she uncover when she begins digging for the truth? With a promising premise of much to come this domestic suspense started well but fell rather flat with a long winded narrative and a lack of plot exploration and suspense.
