Sorry--couldn't finish this one. Interesting premise but I could see the ending a mile off. The simplistic style of the writing of not engaging to me.. I appreciate the opportunity to read.

Happy Saturday friends! I hope this finds you all doing amazing! I want to thank Hilary, Thomas & Mercer and NetGalley for this review copy. When I say, I enjoyed this read, I mean Hilary hit it out of the ballpark and did an absolutely fantastic job! To put it simply, I LOVED it!

When your sister dies unexpectedly and leaves behind more questions than answers, what do you do? With a simple cryptic email message how do you find the evidence to prove or disprove what she’s asking you to do. Where do you even begin? That’s what Deirdre feels compelled to do after her sisters ghastly message, to protect her young nephew from whomever wanted his Mama dead.

This story was beyond good, I honestly don’t think I’ve read anything like it. It had great details, the characters were very well developed and had personalities that were perfect for visualizing. It was a fast read, I didn’t want to put it down.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I definitely recommend this book, a perfect weekend read for this horrendous rainy weather we’re having in the south.

Caroline alleges her husband, Theo, killed his first wife and when Deirdre confronts him he explodes and says he believes Caroline was having an affair.Determined to get justice for her sister, Deirdre won’t rest until she uncovers the truth. A creepy, intense thriller

A fast-paced, expertly plotted mystery about the depths of the secrets we keep hidden from ourselves—and those we love. Thoughtfully plotted and skilfully told, I really enjoyed and empathized with the flawed characters, especially Theo. Addictive and emotional.

What is it with author's and alternative voices. What happened to starting s story at the beginning, and going straight through with one voice, first or third person, to the end. This is a no me.

When author Hilary Davidson reached out to me to review her latest book Her Last Breath I said yes in a heartbeat. I really enjoyed Don’t Look Down so this was a no brainer.

When Deirdre’s sister Caroline suddenly dies and leaves cryptic emails behind for three people, her sister being one of them, Deirdre goes to the police with the information hoping they will relook at her death as being a possible murder rather than an unfortunate accident. The police half-heartedly listen to her and say they’ll look into it but it is clear that it won’t go much further than that. Deirdre is determined to do what her sister has asked of her which is to bring the person who killed her to justice by whatever means.

So begins the story which is told in alternating chapters between Deirdre and Caroline’s husband Theo. Theo is from a wealthy family that owns several hotels although he himself has left the business to go off on a passion project.

Deirdre is a bit naive in that she trusts too much. I found myself saying out loud “‘why are you telling them that?” Deirdre speaks before thinking whereas her sister Caroline was one to assess each situation before responding. Deirdre lives in what barely passes as a basement in Queens and Caroline and Theo live in a stunning townhome. If there was a character the author wanted the reader to initially care for it would be her but my feelings about her were warm but she wasn’t what you might call a loveable character.

The plot points were well developed and made me want to keep reading. I did not want to put this book down. The excitement level was not as high as when I read Don’t Look Down but still entertaining.

I was impressed by how the author changed my opinion about one of the main characters throughout the book showing how I had been drawn in.

Overall I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys an even paced thriller/suspense story with some good twists and a happy ending.

Thank you to @hilarydavidsonbooks for this ARC in exchange for my honest review. Her Last Breath publishes July 1, 2021.

So many twists and turns and lies upon lies in this thriller!!! Deirdre is heartbroken when her sister dies. Dierdre receives a message after Caroline's death saying that if she were to die, it wouldn't be an accident. Deirdre goes to the funeral determined to find out what happened to her sister. This book kept me glued to my kindle and I enjoyed the flawed characters and the need for truth. I received an advanced readers copy and all opinions are my own.

Remember this author: Hilary Davidson, then go read everything she writes. I had high hopes for Her Last Breath and it did NOT disappoint! Hilary is a fantastically talented writer who has written a few books and they are all amazing.

Her Last Breath has been receiving rave reviews and it really is as good as everyone says! It’s a suspenseful story that keeps you reading until the very end.

Here’s the synopsis:

When her beloved sister Caroline dies suddenly, Deirdre is heartbroken. However, her sorrow turns to bone-chilling confusion when she receives a message Caroline sent days earlier warning that her death would be no accident. Long used to being a pariah to her family, Deirdre covers her tattoos and heads to Manhattan for her sister’s funeral.

The message claimed Caroline’s husband, Theo, killed his first wife and got away with it. Reeling from the news, Deirdre confronts Theo on the way to the cemetery, and he reveals both his temper and his suspicion that Deirdre’s “perfect” sister was having an affair.

Paranoid and armed with just enough information to make her dangerous, Deirdre digs into the disturbing secrets buried with Caroline. But as she gets closer to the truth, she realizes that her own life may be at risk…and that there may be more than one killer in the family.

This book is coming out on July 1! Pre-order now. Or if you are a Prime Member of Amazon, you can get it early (and free) through Amazon First Reads here.

Deirdre is devastated when her sister Caro dies suddenly and unexpectedly. She and her sister haven't been very close for many years, but Deirdre still loves Caro and can't believe that she's actually gone. When she receives an email from Caro after her death, Deirdre begins to wonder if Caro's husband Theo had something to do with Caro's death - after all, Caro never told anyone that she had a heart condition, and Theo didn't ask for an autopsy. And Caro's message indicates that Theo killed his first wife.

Theo hadn't thought about his first wife, Mirelle, in years, and still isn't really sure what happened the night of her death. He realizes that he needs to travel back to Berlin to find out the truth.

In alternating chapters, Theo and Deirdre each delve into the past to find out the truth... but are they ready for what they find?

I raced quickly through this novel because I was eager to figure out the real truth about Caro and Mirelle's deaths. With so many unreliable narrators in books these days, I couldn't be sure if Theo was really involved or not, and I enjoyed taking the journey with Deirdre and Theo. This story was filled with interesting and flawed characters and I am looking forward to reading more of Davidson's books :)

In Her Last Breath Davidson has given us a binge worthy thriller filled with endless family drama and secrets.

“The truth is often so ugly, we can’t look it in the face”

Dee has lost her sister Caro when she suddenly passes away while out on a run. The day of Caro’s funeral, Dee gets a pre-written very cryptic letter from her telling her that her death wasn’t what it seems and her husband Theo is responsible.

This great paced suspense thriller is told from the povs of both Theo and Dee as they both have to face the ugly truths of their pasts and figure out what really happened to Caroline.

No spoilers but I will say that with families like these, one does not need enemies! 😮 Their behavior is nothing short of shocking but it kept me turning the pages quickly.

I really enjoyed this one and if you like family suspense thrillers with horrible unreliable characters and secrets galore, you probably will too.

Thanks to Hilary Davidson & NetGalley for my early copy! I devoured it! Can’t wait for your next book!

Deirdre is devastated by the sudden death of her sister Caroline. Hauntingly, days after her death, she receives a message from her sister saying that her death was no accident and that her husband, Theo, was responsible, as he had also murdered his first wife. In her blind anger, Deirdre confronts Theo on the way to the cemetery, only to find out Caroline was allegedly having an affair. Unsure who to trust and desperate to find out what really happened to her sister, Deirdre quickly bites off more than she can chew.

It was October of 2020, and I was perusing my local library when I stumbled upon Don't Look Down, also by Hilary Davidson. Imagine my surprise (and delight!) when Hilary engaged with my Bookstagram stories and posts about her book! Fast forward to May 2021, and Hilary approached me to see whether I'd be interested in reading her newest book, Her Last Breath. I was only too delighted.

This book is perfectly paced, deliciously dark, and unputdownable to boot! Hilary Davidson deserves to have her name listed among the best of thriller writers, and I suspect it's only a matter of time before she does. If you love alternating narrators, untrustworthy characters, and whodunnits--look no further than Her Last Breath, on sale July 1, 2021!

Endless thank you to Hilary Davidson for providing me with the advanced digital copy on NetGalley in exchange for my honest review. I can't wait to see what she comes up with next!

I was approached by the writer to read this book and I'm glad she did, thank you Hilary.

On the day that Deirdre buries her big sister Caroline she receives a cryptic email from her claiming that her death wouldn't have been an accident and her husband Theo Thraxton has got something to do with it.

Caroline's death was believed to be an accident, an underlying heart condition but this email changes everything and Deirdre sets about to uncover the truth discovering hidden family secrets putting herself in danger.

The story is told from Deirdre and Theo's perspective.

The book grips you from the start and takes you on a fast paced adventure with lots of twists and turns. It's a delicious dark, psychological thriller.

Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC

Her Last Breath is the perfect way to describe the narrative in this book. I could not put this intoxicating book down until all was said and done. The author knows how to tell a spellbinding, riveting, and grippingly engaging drama that featured an abundance of twists and turns that had me enthralled as I grasped the essence of what I just read. A dysfunctional family theme is at the forefront and I applaud how well the author put this together as intended. More intense drama moved the story forward and as it the story sped towards its conclusion, it was full steam ahead as everything came to fruition and just blew me away and I could say was wow.

In HER LAST BREATH, Hilary Davidson once again demonstrates her mad skills as a storyteller. This is one hell of a twisted tale where nothing is as it seems, no one can be trusted, and suspicions and allegiances shift like quicksand beneath the reader’s feet. Dark, compelling, and chock-full of suspense and layered characters, this novel has all the ingredients of a bestseller. I loved it.
