Friends with benefits by Lisa Swift

A well written friends to lovers romantic comedy. Following the trials and tribulations of Lexie and Theo, her business partner, as her husband leaves her and his son to go and work in Japan.

A descriptive tale as the main characters try to pull their lives together as one of their lives has fallen apart and how they put the pieces of life back together.

Very likeable characters and shows just how relationships work and come together. Lovely easy .

This has been on my NetGalley shelf for over a year, and I still haven’t picked it up. I've tried, but it just isn't for me (right now). I hope other people enjoy it more than I did.

I wanted to like this one so badly, especially after Book1 in this series was one I devoured and adored. Sadly, this one just missed the mark. There was so much going on, and it didn't feel organic/merging okay which then led to it being confusing and heavy. Also really didn't like the POV scenes with Connor, where he behaved so terribly at Lexie and then seeing Lexie taking the brunt of that. I went in expecting a rom-com, but this wasn't that, and it left me oddly deflated

This book was just sadly not for me! I was hoping for something different but it turned out to be something I was not expecting, which is okay and I'm sure someone else would love it!

Friends With Benefits by Lisa Swift is a lighthearted contemporary romance that explores the complexities of a friends-with-benefits arrangement. With an appealing premise, likable characters, and witty banter, this book offers an enjoyable and entertaining read.

The story revolves around Lucy and Ollie, two longtime friends who decide to embark on a casual relationship without any emotional attachment. As they navigate the blurred lines between friendship and romance, they discover that their arrangement may not be as simple as they initially thought. Along the way, they face unexpected challenges and confront their true feelings for each other.

One of the highlights of this novel is the chemistry between Lucy and Ollie. Their friendship is the foundation of their relationship, and their interactions are filled with playful banter and genuine affection. The author does a good job of portraying the complexities of their evolving dynamic, making their journey relatable and engaging.

Lisa Swift's writing style is light and engaging, making it easy to immerse oneself in the story. The pacing is steady, although there are moments when the plot feels predictable and lacks a sense of tension or surprise. However, the witty dialogue and the charming supporting characters add depth and provide moments of humor and warmth throughout the book.

While the romance is the central focus, the novel also explores themes of self-discovery and the importance of communication in relationships. Lucy and Ollie both undergo personal growth and learn valuable lessons about their own desires and emotional needs.

However, one aspect that may leave readers wanting more is the lack of deeper emotional connection. The story touches on the potential for a deeper relationship between Lucy and Ollie, but it sometimes falls short in exploring their emotional journey in greater depth.

Friends With Benefits is a light and enjoyable read that will appeal to fans of friends-to-lovers romances. While it may not break new ground in the genre, it delivers on the promise of a feel-good story with likable characters and entertaining dialogue. If you're looking for a charming and easygoing romance to escape into, this book may be the perfect choice.

I really enjoyed Friends With Benefits. All of characters were likable. I didn't really like Daryl to begin with, for how he treated his son but he became more likeable as the story went along. I really felt understood the part of the story about Theos feelings of his father. The whole story line did feel like it was well thought out and fitted in well with the outcome

This was an excellent read. Definitely not your typical romcom book. It definitely had depth to it with both Lexie and Theo having their issues.

I loved how Lexie took up looking after Connor like he was her own son. I also loved how Theo always stepped up to his godfatherly duty anytime Connor needed him!

I loved Theo, Lexie and Connor as characters. I can't say the same for Daryl (Lexie's ex husband/Connor's father)! He was awful.

I enjoyed the multiple POV chapters, so that you got things from all their perspectives.

I thought this was a very well written book.

Thank you to Lisa Swift, NetGalley and Hera Books for the chance to read this.

Lexie Whittle has been left by her husband to bring up their stepson (Connor) and run her business with her best friend (Connors godfather). Theo is a Jack the lad but he is the only man that Lexie and Connor can both rely on. After a few drinks, Lexie and Theo agree on a friends-with-benefits arrangement. What starts as a bit of fun soon becomes more deeper.
There are some great characters in this book I was expecting a light hearted rom-com but it delves into sexuality, step relations, confidence and self esteem.
This is my second book by Lisa Swift and I’ll definitely but looking out for more!

I loved this book!! The story was relatable as I know of several people personally whose spouses have left them in this manner. I really enjoyed seeing the relationship of Lexie and Theo unfold. Theo was the person Lexie needed after being burned by Daryl. At the end of the book when Daryl returns you couldn't help but be annoyed and wishing for him to go away! Great book, thank you!

The blurb for this book doesn't do it justice. I assumed it would be a lighthearted rom-com, but it was heart-wrenching and emotional. I loved all of the characters and I was SO invested in their stories.

I received this book complimentary from NetGalley but all opinions are my own.

I struggled with this. I loved Connor, Theo and Lexie fully. Daryl was a right sh*t. The buildup was very slow (I’m not a huge fan of slow burn) and it was a bit less steamy than I’d hoped for. Connor was brilliant and could have been his own book honestly. Lexie and Theo were great even with the slow buildup. I felt like I related to Lexie and would be interested in Theo. I would read another book by this author.

I definitely expected a lot of steamy scenes in this book but I really enjoyed the relationships and new beginnings that were narrated. The title could have been different but the book is still really good!

This is a great book. I love how they're just a hookup and it turns into something more. There's just something to enjoy and love about clichés like this one.

I expected nothing but fluff from this book, from the cover to the title to the description but let me tell you, I came for the fluff but I stayed for the familial relationships between Lexie, Connor and Theo. Every second was precious. Lexie’s love for her stepson was beautifully written. I will say there was literally no steam which was surprising as the book is called friends with benefits yet the readers never experienced the benefits, not even a proper fade to black scene (mostly they just kissed and then it was the next morning). However, the family drama made up for it. I think maybe the title and description could have been rethought as the FWB storyline takes kind of a backseat to the rest of it but I still really liked it.

Thank you NetGalley, author and publisher for the arc in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

This story was so heartfelt, and I really enjoyed it. It has some tropes that I adore, and I think this book is really underrated on social media. A hidden gem!
