In a word -- excellent. I don't usually enjoy reading about music, but I do read history periodically, and this is essentially a history of music told in an interesting, accessible way. Recommended.
There are a couple of excellent, detailed reviews on Goodreads from readers smarter than I, that will be helpful if you want more insights into the book.
