I had high expectations for this novel. Being a huge fan of Rebecca Yarros' Flight & Glory series, I did not expect any less than that smashing series. The Things We Leave Unfinished, however, proved to be just another level altogether. It was such an unexpected and unique way for two stories to be told. I've always known Rebecca to be magnificent at piecing together a gut-wrenching, heart-aching, tear-jerking page turner but just how she crafted Scarlett and Jameson's story to go hand in hand with Georgia and Noah's story simply blew my expectations out of the water. You get not only one, but, two tales, both with their own complex characters, twists and challenges. So not only are you turning the pages for one story, but you're constantly left wanting more of the other at the same time. You couldn't make me choose which one I loved more--the two were seamlessly intertwined together into, quite simply put, a masterpiece.

I love reading romance novels. They are such a wonderful way to enjoy an afternoon. In The Things We Leave Unfinished by Rebecca Yarros, the reader gets to read two romantic stories, separated by time. These are not saccharine sweet romances, instead these stories portray the heartache, the joys, and all the ups and downs in relationships.

Within Chapter two, we walk with Georgia into a scene of familial betrayal, only Georgia does not seem to see how horrible her mother is. (Boundaries, Georgia! Let's talk about boundaries!) The beginning is fast paced, and the transitioned into letters between two lovers. Her mother is caught red handed pretending to be Georgia and trying ti sell off the rights to her Grandmother's unfinished book. Georgia finds herself meeting Noah Harrison- the author she just argued with and insulted just moments before. Why is he now in her house? Oh to finish the book that her grandmother never finished.

Wow! Love the back and forth romantic letters between between Jameson and his beloved Scarlett. Reading the letters and working on her Grandmother Scarlett's love story serves as a starting point and a contrast to the friction and sparks between Georgia and Noah. The writing is impeccable- humor, love, spice, sorrow, chemistry all tied around the romances from the past and through to the present as well. Storylines are easy to keep separate. I highly recommend Yarros' The Things We Leave Unfinished as it is a touching, emotional story. I still find this story running through my mind days after finishing.

Thank you to NetGalley, Rebecca Yarros, and Entangled Publishing, LLC for this temporary, digital review copy for me to read and enjoy. My review is voluntary and my opinions are my own.

I do not even know where to start. This story had me completely captivated from start to finish. I could not put it down. Told in alternating timelines, we get two stories that were beautifully written. In the present, Georgia is finding a new normal after her divorce. This includes helping to finish her great-grandmother’s last book. But the person brought in to do so, Noah, drives her crazy. They each want to do things their own way. Even so, you can feel the chemistry between them with every interaction. At the same time, we delve into her great-grandmother’s past love and the heartache she faced.

As I said, I have no words and hope I can do this story justice in my review. The Things We Leave Unfinished by Rebecca Yarros was an absolutely amazing read. Each woman faced struggles and obstacles in their lives. And yet, you could feel their determination and strength in every word you read. Their separate journeys were faced with grit and risks and in the end neither was left unscathed. Their stories are so worth reading and I highly recommend this book!

Happy reading!

In The Things We Leave Unfinished, Yarros delivers two love stories and two timelines and flawlessly weaves them together in a way that had me completely engaged and invested.

In the present time, Georgia has returned to the Colorado town where she was raised by her late great-grandmother, Scarlett Stanton, a successful and beloved romance novelist. Coming off a bitter, high-profile divorce, Georgia is seeking solace but instead finds her estranged mother in town. Learning that her mother has posed as Georgia, the estate's executor, and brokered a deal to sell Scarlett’s unfinished manuscript, immediately puts Georgia at odds with Noah Harrison, the popular author who has been hired to complete the novel.

In 1940 England, Scarlett is serving in the British Women’s Auxiliary Air Force, alongside her sister Constance, when she meets dashing and charming American pilot, Jameson Stanton. Throughout separations, family interference, and the harsh realities of war, Scarlett and Jameson fall in love. And the aftermath of their great love will be felt for generations to come.

Decades later, Scarlett’s manuscript recounting her love story with Jameson remains unfinished, and Georgia and Noah clash over the appropriate ending. While Noah pushes for a happy ending, Georgia knows such a thing does not exist.

Yarros brought these characters and events to life in a way that I don’t often experience. Even though both timelines are compelling, it was Scarlett and Jameson’s story in the past that completely captured my heart and emotions. While certain aspects of the story are known from the start, even that did not soften the blow when tragedy struck. The sense of loss was almost a physical ache and I felt as shell-shocked as the characters. From the thrill of a passionate love affair, to the unwavering bonds of sisters, to hope in the face of hopelessness - I experienced it all within these pages.

The Things We Leave Unfinished is a stellar story of love, trust, family, and sacrifice. These characters and their stories stayed with me long after I turned the last page and wiped away my tears, and will, without a doubt, be among my favorites of the year. This is a timeless, emotional story that is not to be missed.

This book was a journey that will definitely pull on your heartstrings. The storylines are raw and real which will leave you smiling and crying throughout the whole book.

The chemistry between Noah and Georgia is evident from the start. It was undeniable from their first meet cute, and it only grew stronger from there.

Getting to experience a second storyline through her grandmother’s letters and experiences made the book that much more intriguing and unique. Watching the story slowly unfold will have you wanting that once in a lifetime pure love.

I honestly think this is my new favorite from Rebecca. The twists and turns the book took along the way had me in awe up until the last page.

Rebecca Yarros likes to rip my heart out doesn't she?
Yarros does military romance like no one else. They feel real but at the same time we get the HEA we expect from romance novels.
I enjoyed the setting, the characters, the angst/heartbreak and of course the romance.
I really have nothing bad to say about this, it was heartrendingly perfect.

This was the second book I’ve read by Rebecca Yarros. Her storylines are amazing. This book drew me in immediately. I love the dual timeline and seeing how things turn out. I was so swept up in the story and had a hard time putting it down. The ending was so worth it! I feel it could totally be made into a movie.

I received a complimentary ARC of this book from NetGalley on behalf of the Publisher and was under no obligation to post a favorable review.

Are you looking for a book that will give you all the feels? Then you need to pick up this book. It is a beautiful story told in two time lines. We have Scarlett and Jameson's story unfolding during WWII, and Georgia and Noah's story unfolding in the present. I just loved these characters. I loved reading about their lives and their loves. Rebecca Yarros did and amazing job making you feel what the characters were going through. Absolutely beautiful.

Some books just live in your heart for a while. This is a story that does that.
The Things We Leave Unfinished is the latest stand-alone novel by Rebecca Yarros.
It is one of the best books I’ve ever read. Two love stories intertwined in ways that had my heart breaking. This is story that will have tears falling all the while your heart is bursting with joy.

Georgia and Noah were extraordinary characters. Georgia has been put through hell for years and returns home to heal. She had no idea what was waiting for her or how much her life is about to change. Noah is the epitome of what a hero should be. He is a bit haughty but underneath that arrogance is a good man. A man that will always do the right thing. Both characters are written brilliantly. Both will live with me for a while. This is a story for the ages!

The things we leave unfinished took me on a journey through so many emotions. This book that made a huge impact on me. I will never forget it or the way it made me feel.
Highly recommend reading it!

This is a beautiful read that will definitely stay in your heart. This book romance at its best, at its most beautiful, and heartbreaking. Although I tend to shy away from traditionally published romance, I am SO glad I gave this book a chance! It's written in two timelines and it makes it different but no less engaging.

It's real, it's raw and I absolutely loved the little snippets of fictionalized history we see throughout this book. This is the swoony type of read that all romance readers will enjoy, regardless of the level of hit and spice they prefer.

Family ties, familiar love, and everything we would all do for love come to head in this book to give us a perfectly written story that you'll probably want to revisit.

Five swoony stars to TTWLU and Rebecca Yarros!

This is my third book by this author and I am hooked on her words. I wasn't expecting this writing style so It took me awhile to get into it but but with that said I finished this in what felt like no time. The storyline was like none I have ever read. I fell in love with all the characters. I am so glad I kept going even after being confused. This book grabbed my heart, tore it in two, and put it back together again. Amazing story. I volunteered to read and review an early copy of this. My opinions are my own.

Oh, this book.  THIS BOOK.  This one got me right in the feels from page one.

This story is really two stories in one.  There is modern-day tale of Noah and Georgia. Noah has been brought in to finish a manuscript started by Georgia's gran.  Despite some serious chemistry, Georgia fights him on the entire process every step of the way.  I loved these two.  Both are such strong and admirable characters. Noah has got that swagger and confidence without being a total jerk. Plus, he's a writer which is just super swoon-worthy.  Georgia is coming off a divorce and you can't but help cheer for her to have a happy ending.  She is fiercely loyal to her Gran and has an inner strength to her that I really appreciated.

And then there is the story of Scarlett and Jameson.  Goodness.  This one takes place in 1940s England where the two meet while serving in the Armed Forces there.  Their relationship and the struggles they had to deal with hit close to home as the wife of an active-duty soldier.  I both sighed and cried at times as it truly was so very romantic while still so heartbreaking in parts.

Normally, I'm not a fan of a book that constantly flips back and forth between stories...especially when there is a time jump.  Yarros made the exact right choice with this book.  Told any other way, it would not have been nearly as effective.  I loved it.  I loved the letter-writing aspect to it.  I loved the book writing parts.  I loved the family connection and love.  And I really loved the parallels between the two couples.  It truly is just a well-written masterpiece.

This is the first book I've read by Rebecca Yarros.  I can promise it will not be my last.  She will be an auto-read from this point forward.

I know I am in for an emotional rollercoaster when I pick up a Rebecca Yarros book. She has the wonderful ability to create stories that are unforgettable.

I didn't read the blurb before diving in and was pleasantly surprised to find we learn about Georgia's great grandma Scarlett's romance and novel in addition to the events playing out in present day between Georgia and Noah.

I was so impressed by how the two parts of the story were woven together and how much I came to care about all of the characters. I honestly don't think I've read anything like it before, and I flew through reading it because I could not put it down. I know I it's only February but I have a feeling this will be one of my favorite books this year.

HJ Top Pick!

The Things We Leave Unfinished was a perfectly written dual timeline that blended contemporary romance with historical fiction seamlessly. With its gasp-worthy twist at the end and two couples whose tumultuous love stories will bring you to tears, phenomenal is the closest word I can use to describe Rebecca Yarros's newest novel.

This. Book. Talk about all the feels! It's going to be difficult to explain how utterly besotted I became with Georgia and Noah as well as Scarlett and Jameson as their stories unfolded. The best comparison I can think of is The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah. (One of my all time favorites) Equally as heart-rending and achingly beautiful, also with an alternating timeline between present day and during World War II, Yarros worked her magic and created this story around two couples with very different courtships. The circumstances might have been completely opposite but there was no denying the unending depth of love between Scarlett & Jameson and Georgia & Noah.

As I briefly mentioned, this novel was almost like a contemporary romance (Noah and Georgia) and a historical fiction/romance (Jameson and Scarlett) all in one. And of course it was all exceedingly well done with a depth of emotion I always look for in a book by Yarros. From the snippets of love letters written between Scarlett and Jameson at the beginning of the chapters to the extraordinary details included about life during WWII, this story just grabbed hold of my heart and didn't let go. The sheer magnitude of the sacrifices Scarlett, Jameson, and Scarlett's younger sister Constance made was incredible. And the devastating losses they all suffered will leave readers reeling.

Georgia and Noah's romance added some levity with their memorable meet-cute and how they tried to avoid their chemistry through bickering and a fun bit of antagonism. They made a wonderful pair--once they got out of their own way and gave in to their attraction. But it was complicated. I thought showing Noah and Georgia being flawed, making mistakes and having to own up to it made them relatable and truly endeared them to the reader. Their lovely relationship turned out exactly the way I was hoping. Although it was a rocky road to get there.

Keep your tissues handy and be ready to ugly cry when you pick up The Things We Leave Unfinished. It was a deeply touching timeless romance that was a reading experience like no other--and I can't thank Rebecca Yarros enough for sharing her indomitable characters with us.

THE THINGS WE LEAVE UNFINISHED is a captivating women's fiction read with a surprise ending that left me reeling. The book follows Georgia, a young woman who is still grieving the loss of her grandmother and the end of her marriage. Although the guy was horrible and she is glad to be out, it has left a mark. Her mother wants her to sign over her great-grandmother's (Gran's) last book to get some money.

Gran was a great romance writer, and she has always been writing this great romance about her own life - it has been a lifelong project. However, the book is only 2/3 finished. The publisher has brought in Noah, a man who writes tragic romance-aligned books, to help. Noah is passionate about her books because they changed his life, and his pitch convinces Georgia to give him a try - but she keeps the final say.

As she works with him on the book, their attraction becomes undeniable, but her heart is not yet ready. The book is told through their perspectives as they work on her Gran's book, and through the interspersed pages of her Gran's autobiographical romance - a full story in its own right.

I really loved the modern story of Georgia and Noah, as well as their meet-cute. I was captivated by their conversations and slow-building romance. The switching back and forth between their story and that of Scarlett/Jameson was a bit tough at first, mainly because each is fully immersive and a full story in its own right. I absolutely adored how everything came together in the end.

Yarros is a really talented writer, and she has created yet more heartfelt characters that are impossible not to love. This is a unique story that feels different from other books and yet still completely immersive and surprising. The way everything evolves is absolutely riveting, and we really receive two books in the process.

This is a fantastic read about love, trust, and healing that I ultimately devoured. Highly recommend for fans of poignant women's fiction. Please note that I received an ARC from the publisher through netgalley. All opinions are my own.

This contemporary romance/ historical fiction hybrid had everything I wanted and more!

Recent divorcee, Georgia Stanton is not in the mood for love and happy endings… So when a hot shot author is brought in to complete her great-grandmother and famous author’s memoirs, Scarlett Stanton, she makes one caveat; no happily ever after. Its not what happened and she wants the truth, not another romance.

Noah Harrison knows what fans are expecting from the last , Scarlett Stanton book, a romantic HEA… if he can’t get Georigia to see things his way and trust him, it won’t only be his career that implodes.

As Noah works on completing the last manuscript, we see Scarlett’s romance unfold with RAF pilot Jameson Stanton as WWII kick into gear. Jameson and Scarlett have an instalove connection but sadly life doesn’t always provide a happy ending as in fiction.

Can Noah and Georgia learn form Scarlett and Jameson in order to hold onto their once in a lifetime connection?

Oh my! This book swept me away from the get go! I loved the back and forth story telling between current day and WWII setting. Such a fascinating juxtaposition! Sometimes it is difficult for an author to create a set of characters that you are rooting for and you get attached too, here I feel hard for both couples! At some points the two stories are very commented and at others it felt like I was reading two books, but throughout the whole book, I was all in for both couples and storylines.

This book was an emotional roller coaster in more ways than one. The stress and toll of the war, the complex relationships… in the end I shed a good amount of sad and happy tears. I loved everything about this book and could not recommend it more! This is a stellar romance!

3.5 stars rounding up

Of late, my experience with Rebecca Yarros had simply been one of brilliance. It’s been pretty much this: engrossing storytelling that goes deep into the complexity of emotions; compelling circumstances in which Yarros's protagonists above which forced to rise…or sink, followed by the poignancy of finally realising that they have to fight for each other as they undertake a journey together.

But going into any book of hers also typically requires a clear headspace, lots of time and mental ‘rightness’ just to enjoy the heavy-hitting parts.

'The Things We Leave Unfinished’ sounds like exactly sort of book I wanted to get my teeth into, more so because it looked to involve two disparate timelines and two romances running in parallel, joined by the idea that an unfinished story from decades ago must not be left untold. There’s also quite a bit of a meta-narrative about the writing process and the notion of authorship—read between the lines and there’ll be so many (not too uppity and oblique) references to wrestling all the stakeholders in the production of just one story—and that alone was fun to go into.

But ultimately, what Yarros takes on here feels a little too ambitious for my liking: alternating chapters that went between past and present, where two stories/romances were essentially written in parallel, with a twist and a revelation at the end that somehow failed to surprise me in a way that would leave me wrung-out, bittersweet and sated.

Not that two pairings for the price of one is a bad way to go; it just failed to make a bigger impact on my own emotional state since the focus was evenly split between two couples, where one was done in an era that I can’t seem to muster any interest in. If I thought Noah/Georgia wasn’t quite a pairing that sizzled in their interactions, the speed at which Jameson/Scarlett got it on left me bewildered.

'The Things We Leave Unfinished’ is far from a bad read, objectively speaking. Just because it didn’t speak to my exacting, pre-conceived notions of what I thought how this should have gone doesn’t mean it wouldn’t go well for others. Yarros still writes a bloody well-paced tale here that would probably hollow out some hearts.

Things I love? This book. Things I don’t love? Flashbacks. Things this book has? Flashbacks. I know it doesn’t make sense but it was a great, heart wrenching read. Rebecca Yarros is becoming one of my authors to watch. While the flashbacks/novel excerpts really slowed down my reading as I adjusted to not one or two but four perspectives in two different times, I really loved this story. It was sappy to be sure. But it was also really moving and the whole story just had me crying the whole way through (in the words of Jude Law in The Holiday, “I’m a weeper”). I really loved the characters! The conflict in the relationship to me felt kind of forced and unrealistic but it didn’t really detract from my enjoyment of the story. Now I know if sounds like I had all sorts of complaints about this book and yet I’m still here saying I loved it but that’s just the way it was I swear! There was something deeply loving about the story of Scarlet and Jameson, and so in spite of my little pet peeves I really did enjoy this book and the contemporary romance that had this historical romance built in. That being said, I am going to read a few happy (read: not going to make me cry) books for the foreseeable future because I can not afford the dehydration nor the emotional anguish. Still—pick up this book!

4.5, Unfinished Stars!

“Gran used to say she saw the characters as fully fleshed-out people with complicated pasts, set on a collision course. She saw their flaws as something to overcome.”

Just when you think you have a grasp on the kind of love story a Rebecca Yarros novel can give you, she has to go and deliver The Things We Leave Unfinished. The Things We Leave Unfinished is a unique and intriguing romance that operates on two alternating timelines. The Things We Leave Unfinished is an unforgettable love story that will mesmerize readers right until the very end…

The Things We Leave Unfinished starts off in the present time with Georgia and Noah. Noah has been brought in to finish her great-grandmother’s last book. Georgia isn’t too thrilled about the idea but allows to let Noah work on it as long as he gives it the ending she wants. Naturally, the two of them butt heads over this, and Noah will try his hardest to get Georgia to see things his way….Timeline #2 is Scarlett’s real-life romance told through the pages of her manuscript and letters from her love…

Overall, I thought this was a truly beautiful and unique story. The story flowed well and sucks you in instantly. The characters are real, flawed, and perfectly imperfect. I will be the first to admit that it took some time for me to get used to the alternating timelines/stories, but once I got into it, I was hooked! I loved all the little touches and the love letters. It made this story feel real and like the readers are a part of it.

The Things We Leave Unfinished is a love story that transcends time and pages. It’s a story about the risks we’re willing to take for love. It’s a story about secrets hidden in the past and the mess that’s left behind. It’s a story about thinking you know all of the pieces to it, but finding yourself completely wrong. Most of all, it’s a story of love and second chances.

At the end of the day, this story that Rebecca Yarros has given us will take you on one incredible journey that is sure to deliver all the feels.

I’m utterly speechless, this book has rendered me emotionally spent and my jaw hurts from hitting the floor with the ending! I’ve read only one book before (Tiffany Blues) that has jumped from the past to the present, and although I normally don’t read those types of books I took a chance with both, this being the second book. I will tell you right now this was an incredible, emotional, romantic, funny, tragic and definitely educational in the sense it takes you through history and how our military helped shape the War in the 1940s, that I’ve read in a long time. Jamieson and Scarletts story was magical, one I didn’t want to put down, it takes you through the great love story that only a few authors I’ve read can do with seamless ease. Your heart breaks for these two characters with what they had to do for their countries, the dedication it took for a US pilot to fight in a foreign war and the English woman he falls in love with and marries. It tells the story of two sisters who were inseparable and took the war on the only way they knew how. The story intertwines with the current love story between Scarlett and Jamieson’s great granddaughter, Georgia, and her struggle with a broken marriage and new found love with Noah, and because this author can’t rip our hearts out enough, throw in the worthless mother that was never around when Georgia was growing up. Everything about this book screams greatness, sit on the edge of your seat, stay up late trying to get one last page in type of book. When you read this book, and you will read this incredible story, settle in for the ride with a box of Kleenex, because you’re going to need it. Loved everything about it, even the raw emotions I still have after finishing the last word in the book. Enjoy the ride, it’s a good one.....

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC copy of this book.
