The premise of this book is that, Mac knocked up another girl while on a summer break away from his girlfriend of 7 years. But he didn't know he did it until the 18 year old shows up at his work. Mac's wife, Edie is a well-regarded interior designer who is flabbergasted by her husband's infidelity. She works through a broad range of emotions while also dealing with having the evidence of his affair in their own house. Edie wonders if she made the wrong choice by marrying Mac when she was also in love with his best friend, Graham in high school/college.
An interesting look at how a major event can thrust a spotlight on all of your relationship's weak points.

I absolutely devoured bust June 2020 release Summer House now I've got to get her other two books!
Because Denton is an absolute must buy for me!
THE ONE YOU'RE WITH is a beautiful book about family and what happens when you're shaken to the core from the past.

This family fiction, contemporary fiction was a beautifully written book that I absolutely enjoyed reading!
She knows how to grab the readers attention from the first page and doesn't let you go till you're finished
I enjoyed the characters and thought this was a beautiful story about love and working together when everything isn't always perfect.

The One You’re With by Lauren Denton
Mac and Edie seem to have it all—he is a successful pediatrician with his own practice, and she is an interior designer with an exclusive firm. Their two kids complete their perfect family. But looks can be deceiving as Mac learns one day when a stranger arrives at his office. Their perfect marriage is about to have its flaws exposed. Their past is meeting them head on and both Mac and Edie wonder if their family will survive.
I loved getting to know both Mac and Edie’s past and present. The dual time of the story was relatively easy to follow and helped me to understand the character’s present personalities.
The plot’s problem was realistic and the characters’ response to it was genuine. I imagine that similar things have happened to other couples.
This book was a clean, inspiring read, but I don’t know that I would characterize it as Christian fiction as the only mention of God was a few quickly breathed prayers by one of the characters. There was no mention of church, the Bible or Jesus. However, the characters for the most part did seem to live by Christian principles, especially Fitz and Mrs. Cindy, his wife.
Readers who enjoy realistic fiction that deals with some real life issues handled in a very inspiring way will enjoy this story. I received a free copy from the publisher for this, my honest review.

I enjoyed parts of the book, but felt like the story could have been told in many fewer pages. The dialog, especially between younger characters, wasn't always natural to me either. On a positive note, I think the title was really fitting.

I'm not sure if the author has any control over the next few points so they will not weigh heavily into my rating, but I think other readers might want to know. The book summary makes it seem like the 'event' that happened years ago was something criminal or extremely immoral, so I was disappointed to find things to be much more tame in reality. It should probably also have a "Romance" label in addition to the General and Women's Fiction labels it has (at least on NetGalley).

Note: I received a free ebook copy of The One You're With from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I just recently began reading Lauren K. Denton's books—and I flew through all her previous releases in a matter of weeks. I really enjoyed this one—the peeks into the past and the turmoil of the present. This felt realistic and packed with emotion. I'm looking forward to her future books. (Side note - I adore the cover!)

I very much enjoyed this family drama focusing on the everyday dilemmas we are presented with. A couple whose seemingly stable marriage is shaken to the core upon the sudden appearance of a mysterious young woman is at the center of this story. A good read all around!

I really enjoyed this novel, as I have all of her novels. Bravo to Ms. Denton for having her main couple be a couple in their forties trying to figure things out. I’m kind of tired of reading about hot mess 20 somethings! 4/5. A more detailed review can be found here.

I’m a big fan of Denton’s fiction, but this one was harder for me to get into. Found myself confused at the beginning, especially when the time changed so quickly. The whole thing just seemed overly dramatic and I couldn’t really get a grip on the character of Edie. Liked the premise, though! And her dialogue, as always, is realistic and enjoyable to read.

Thanks to NetGalley, the author and publisher for an advanced reading copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

The One You're With was an enjoyable read, opening up the package of a relationship between Edie & Mac Swan. In an unexpected turn they have to decide if this marriage they love can withstand a revelation they both did not see coming. Edie may not be my favorite female character from Lauren K. Denton, but the story was real and believable. I would recommend this book as part of your summer beach side reading. If fact read all of Lauren K. Denton's books, you'll be glad you did!!
Thank you NetGalley for making this book available to me to read and review.

I really enjoy his authors writings and plow through the books quickly as they are just really good. This was a great story. Think about choices. Every choice we make effects our future and people in our lives; sometimes in a good way and sometimes not. I loved the characters and how they work through all the changes and unraveling of past to present.
Thanks to Netgalley and the Publisher for the ARC.

Edie, loves being a mom and working full time, as a home designer, her marriage to Mac however, is concerning and she has the perfect idea for getting them back on track; a surprise 40th birthday party. Little does Edie realize that her entire world, is in for a crash course landing, on the very day of the party. Mac drops a bomb shell that disrupts everything she thought, about their marriage. A book about relationships and decisions. This book was so hard to put down, I loved it.

The One You’re With is another great delve into marriage, love, relationships, secrets, and regrets. I enjoyed this book from cover to cover and can’t wait to read more from Lauren K. Denton.

Edie Swan and her husband Mac are living the good life. Edie works at a prestigious design firm, and her husband is a pediatrician with his own practice. They have two children and live in an upscale community near Mobile, Alabama. Everything is good until a young woman enters Mac’s office and their perfect life starts to fall apart.

The books flip between the present and the past, and the points of view of Edie and Mac, giving the story interest, and kept me turning the pages. The book is full of family drama, secrets, and consequences that felt realistic and kept me enthralled in the story. The characters were realistic, fully formed, and sympathetic. The author is a talented writer, and I will be looking for more of her books to read.

I highly recommend this book. I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

"High-school sweethearts Mac and Edie Swan lead a seemingly picture-perfect life in the sleepy-sweet community of Oak Hill, near Mobile, Alabama. Edie is a respected interior designer, Mac is a beloved pediatrician, and they have two great kids and a historic home on tree-lined Linden Avenue. From the outside, the Swan family is the definition of “the good life.” And life is good—mostly. Until a young woman walks into Mac’s office one day. A young woman whose very existence threatens all Mac and Edie have built and all they think they know about each other."

The One You're With was a refreshingly enjoyable read. Full of believable, flawed, lovable characters, not unlike ourselves. People who are faced with hard life choices, but who consider and value their choices and the effects that it has on those around them. Marriage is messy and it is hard. It is nice to see people working at it. I loved this quote from the book: "Sometimes that's what a marriage is, Dr. Swan. We hurt each other and we apologize. And we forgive. Over and over. Eventually, we learn how to hurt each other less and love each other more. And better."

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own."

A wonderful story that will have you thinking about the path you did not take. Mac and Edie have had a good life. They have know each other most of their life, being a couple for many years prior to getting married. Except for one summer when they broke up and they explored the possibility of another path. Mac goes to work at a marina and Edie goes to New York for an internship for a designer. Graham best friends with Mac since middle school. He has had a front row seat for Mac and Edie’s relationship. Graham writes to Edie the summer she is in New York. The two of them get really close.

Edie plans a 40 birthday party for Mac. He finds himself in an unexpected position when something comes to light from that summer long ago.

Can Edie and Mac’s relationship survive?

I enjoyed this story. Thank you to Netgalley for complimentary copy.

What would you do if a mistake your husband committed 20 years ago walked in the door?
Edie has the perfect life. A husband who loves her. 2 beautiful if not perfect children and a job she loves, most of the time. Then her world is rocked to its core when a child Mac didn't know he had walks in his office.
I spent most of this book asking myself how I would react. Sometimes I thought, "Good Grief, get over yourself. It was 20 years ago, you weren't married." Then I would back track and think, "how can you trust him ever again." What a roller coaster ride, but one that was good.
Denton has that in all her books, a chance to look at yourself and ask yourself some of those questions. It sure makes for an interesting read.

Seriously, I am in love with Denton’s writing. It’s gorgeous! The book shifts in time and perspective, which I found very purposeful. I loved the relationship between Mac and Edie. I loved the way she wrote about marriage, so refreshing. My only issue was with Edie: she seemed so glib and superficial!

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Many thanks to Netgalley and Thomas Nelson Fiction for providing me with an ARC.
