This is a little too heavy on the cutesy jokes for my taste but I think it's a good early reader. I dislike heavy backmatter in books for kids this age, however.

I really really enjoyed this book so much. It was educational and funny at the same time. First of all, the book is short and a graphic novel so I don’t think I could have complaint about it. Secondly, it is too good for a short read.
When I first got the arc I was not feeling it cuz the genre is science and I am not a fan of it. But then I thought you know it’s a small book what harm can it do. And I am so proud of my past self to have thought this. I completed this in like 15 minutes max and I was sad cuz it was short.
The book gave a beautiful message in just 50 pages which is a big thing. It was simple and short and interesting and fun. I love how facts about bugs were incorporated which, I think, is also an interesting part of the story. I never knew bugs were fun to read about until I read this!

A very cute and entertaining short story about how even the smallest and seemingly 'useless' beings can be proven helpful.
Also, a nice opportunity to teach both kids and adults some basic stuff about insects.
And honestly, the fact that the language is easy for kids to understand, the pace is good and the illustrations are so adorable, is a big plus.
I recommend that to parents/teachers/caregivers etc who are in search for an educational story featuring animals, but would also like to try a little something different.

I LOVE Ashley Spires’ book “The Most Magnificent Thing!” My daughter and I have read it over and over and over and… Spires’ newest release, “Burt The Beetle Doesn’t Bite!” is very cute and since my daughter is a HUGE bug fanatic, I couldn’t wait to share it with her! The book begins by introducing readers to some of the amazing abilities many insects have that make them special. The illustrations are laid out like a comic strip and are hilarious. Burt appears from the getgo cheering on his fellow bugs and then wonders what it is that makes him special. He lists multiple things he might be able to do but then is seen failing. Poor Burt!?
Don’t fret, friends! Our lovable pal Burt discovers his special ability in the end and it is absolutely adorable. My 5 year old daughter LOVES this book and giggles from cover to cover. I love that what makes Burt special is his heart (that isn’t completely a spoiler…) and can become an affirmation to replicate with any reader.

This is a very cute book about Burt the Beetle who is trying to find his own special superpower. He can't carry 50 times his own weight. He doesn't have a special "stink". There must be something special about him? This book is full of interesting facts about bugs. Kids will love it.

This book was absolutely adorable! I was a little confused at first when I started reading the first few pages, because I thought the book was just pictures of each individual bug. However, I was thoroughly surprised how explanatory and well written it was. It screams boring non-fiction, but with all the pictures, it was worth the read!

Burt the Beetle might not have the superpower-like abilities lots of other insects have, but that doesn't mean he can't do anything! In fact, as a June beetle, he might just be able to do things that other insects can't. I really liked this children's graphic novel focused on portraying insect life in a positive way. Kids are gonna love this one, I think, whether they're lovers of nature already or not. And they'll probably learn a thing or two along the way.

Burt the Beetle is a fantastic character. He knows he is surrounded by insects with some pretty amazing superpower, but he is struggling to see his superpower. However, he soon finds that some insects need him and his superpower is revealed! I loved the descriptions of the insects at the beginning of the book, and the humor sprinkled throughout the story is accessible for all readers.

This was a clever and well done book that contains a great deal of information about bugs. We meet Burt the beetle as he tries to figure out what his super power is by learning about other insects and what they can do (carry 50 times their weight, spray paralyzing venom or release a bad smell). June beetles don't have those kind of powers but Burt finds out that there is something that he can do to help some bugs in danger.

The drawings were great along with interesting facts about bugs. My seven year old was a big fan of this book and we read it several times together.

There are bugs and beetle experts in every class. This books will appeal to them and the bug enthusiasts will definitely have a great time. For the older kids, in addition to the information on the hero bug, the dry humour will find them with a chuckle! This is yet another must-read from Ashley Spires that appeals to the young kids and the not-so-young ones alike. A must buy!

Burt the Beetle Doesn't Bite! is by Ashley Spires. I actually chose this book from NetGalley because the focus of the book is about June beetles. Being from Southeast Texas, I came across many June beetles in my day, but we called them June bugs. Spires's book is specifically about the ten-lined June beetle which don't live around my area, but I still wish this would have existed when I was a kid. I was terrified of June bugs! Being born in June, my mom used to try and tell me that "they came to celebrate [my] birthday," but I wasn't falling for it. Burt the Beetle lets kids know that June beetles aren't one of the more dangerous bugs they should be afraid of. In fact, they really don't have anything special about them! Or do they???

What a fun, super cute book! I enjoyed reading this, it was engaging, interesting, and Burt is just adorable. He's a type of June beetle, which aren't as friendly as Burt if you meet them in real life: they are very hissy, & will come flying at you if you're not careful. One learns to leave them alone, unless you want a bug in your hair. Burt introduces us to many interesting bugs with unique talents, which he is very excited about- he's a great cheerleader- but feels he has no special powers of his own. However, we learn that he has sticky legs, and is heavy for a bug, and because of this he is able to save the other bugs from a spider's web by wrapping the spider in a hug (Burt loves hugging), then jumping in the spider web and breaking it, freeing the other insects. Turns out Burt is a great friend to have around! Maybe the June beetles I've met were trying to be friendly after all, and just wanted to give me a hug! The text is a good mix of interesting information about insects and endearing dialog from Burt, and lots of really cute illustrations (the endpapers are great, filled with an array of insects with their super powers listed). I'm sure kids will love this as much as I did.

This super fun book is a non-fiction title in disguise. It uses a cute beetle with depression issues to introduce his friends and all the things about them that are special. Burt is not special, but he finds a way to help his friends anyway. There was a lot to like about this book. It is funny and educational, and I can see kids wanting to read this over and over again.

The bug world is an amazing place. Ants can carry fifty times their weight. Hawk moths shoot ultrasonic blasts. And June beetles. . . well, they have no special abilities. Not a one! Unless you count hugs!
Burt the Beetle Doesn't Bite by Ashley Spires is a clever and humorous introduction to insects for children. Laid out as a graphic novel, Spires brilliantly weaves together narrator tags and dialogue on the part of Burt to teach kids without them ever realizing they are learning. Even better, Burt is a lovable character with a distinct personality that kids are sure to love. Perfect for bug or nature lovers! Extra fun facts at the end will appeal to all readers!

Burt the Beetle Doesn't Bite! Is a cute graphic novel for younger readers about insects and their different "superpowers." Burt is a Ten-Lined June Beetle who's not sure what he can offer the world. He doesn't fly, he doesn't have super strength, doesn't have paralyzing venom, and can't climb up walls. Burt has to learn to appreciate his own unique superpowers to help his friends when they get caught in a spider's web. The end of the book has fun facts about insects.
