This has lovely illustrations, nice story - it would be a sweet addition for an early years book box.

A beautiful, fun book that would serve as a lovely introduction to poetry for children. It explores language and creative writing in a fun and accessible way for young people.

"Poem in My Pocket" has skyrocketed to the top of my list of books to read at class visits, and share with educators! The illustrations are bright, beautifully detailed, yet simple. The rhythm, repetition, and use of onomatopoeia, and vocabulary scattered across illustrations make this an excellent read-aloud for older children.

Tougas masterfully crafts a narrative that serves as an allegory for the creative process. Poem in My Pocket is a great way to begin any poetry or creative writing unit for students in grades 3-6.

Gosh I loved this gorgeous children's picture book! With absolutely perfect illustrations, this rhyming story describes the challenging, but oh so rewarding creative writing process.

There are puns all over the street, excellent symbolism throughout, and hidden words within the pages that allow your aspiring writer to have fun piecing and arranging the creative story together for herself.

As a home school mom, I know all too well how the writing process has many natural ups and downs for our younger learners. but this sweet story turns that challenge around and embraces the process in such a fun and charming way.

We loved reading this allegorical picture book together. Thank you NetGalley, Kids Can Press, and Chris Tougas for the opportunity to read this special e- ARC.

I can only rate this negatively. I was offered the chance to read it, but shortly after I downloaded it, it became locked on my reader and I could not even start it. I don't see the point of granting access to a work for review if the reviewer is then to be denied the ability to read it. Next time, please, just turn me down.

I could not stop smiling while reading this book. National Poetry Month is a topic that is heavily celebrated in our elementary schools and this book will be perfect to spark up that unit. The words, illustrations and theme were so fun and positive that I can see our young students having fun with this book and maybe even aspire to become young writers. Also, while reading this book, I could not help but think I wish there was a book like this when I was in elementary school. I know this book will be popular and our teachers and administration will want this in every elementary classroom.

We will consider adding this title to our J Non-Fiction poetry collection at our library. That is why we give this book 5 stars.

"Poem in my Pocket" is a cute and fun introduction to poetry for young kids. Obviously, due to the target demographic, the explanation is rather simplistic, but the general deconstruction of the creative process was well done. The narration was written in rhyme, which is definitely appropriate, although sometimes the rhymes felt a bit flat/off, which messed with the reading experience. Mind you, that was while reading in my head, and I know that if I were reading this out loud, the rhyme timing inconsistencies would be even more noticeable. That said, I can see that the intention of this book was to give a good breakdown of how poetry works while making it entertaining, and I think that Tougas achieved this for the most part. The real highlight of this book for me though was the art; I wasn't entirely sure how this book was going to play out but the illustrations backed up the story the whole way through, helping give a visual guide to anything that might confused a young child. If you are a parent of a budding writer or poet, I think this book wouldn't go astray.

This is such a fun book about poetry and the many ways you can use to write it. The illustrations are creative and also serve as examples of how to use the world around you for inspiration. Highly recommended to encourage kids to be creative.

This is perfect for poetry lessons or for introducing Poem in My Pocket Day. I love the way they play with words here! Charming and fun to read, this also has a lot of rereadablity as you discover new things and find new ways to engage with the book.

This was a lot of fun. A child had a poem in their pocket but it fell out and blew around town. The words and letters get jumbled up and they have a hard time putting them back together. This was really well done and the illustrator did a fantastic job of matching the action of the words to the story. I love everything about it.

This book was so sweet. Absolutely adorable. It's a really fun read for kids about what poetry is and it combines not only ordinary rhymes but also visual poetry, as the words fly about the page and connect with the pictures. The illustrations were very pretty and really complemented the story.

This is a wee gem. Brightly coloured, full-page illustrations with a real summery feel. The language is rhyming text with good rhythm and flow. Lots of fun language, "whirling, twirling, swirling". Good story about finding the creative inspiration for children to write their own poems. Their is a spread at the back for ideas to work with the book a bit more in depth.

A super cute 24-page children's book. I especially liked the part of the book and rhyme scheme when the author spoke of the rain. The illustrations and author perspective at that time were really on point and since I feel that this book had it all I can't find one thing that could've been improved on, so 5 stars all the way. I recommend this book as a solid short-story for young children in the pre-chapter book phase.

What a great book! It's great to read with children who are being alphabetized, to interact with words, rhymes and the order of the letters. It's a fun and lightheaded book, and the artwork is simply beautiful.

Wow wow wow. I absolutely adore this book. The illustrations are just glorious and it really was quite special. I will take this book to read to my class after the holidays. I think this is a wonderful way to introduce poetry. If I could give it more stars I would. Love it!

The art just shines, I loved it so much. The story and poetry were cute as well, But the art work was the main protagonist.
