Ah, this was the perfect summer read. I loved the characters and the setting. Some parts made me swoon and some made me laugh. I think this may have been my first book by this author, but it definitely won't be the last.

Thank you @readforeverpub for a copy of this small town romance. This was a slow burn, sweet romance between Trisha and Jake. Trisha is starting a new life with her son and Jake returns to Sweetwater to check on his grandma. The town is so charming and so are the people in it.

I love all the side characters and have already read Lucy & Mile's story so it was fun to see them here. Both Trisha and Jake and hesitant to start something and I liked how mature they were at approaching their relationship.

The Summer Cottage is a story about family , heart break and second chances.
Trisha moves her and her son to get a new start after she learns about her ex-husband cheating people out of money. She takes a job helping Vi manage the summer cottages and really enjoys it until Jake, Bo’s grandson arrives.
Jake is returning to his hometown to help his Grandma fix up her cottages and to try to convince her to sell. He left because his high school sweetheart had passed away there years ago and he found it hard to be there.
After realizing how much Trisha is helping Vi he starts falling for her and her son. His family continues to push him to convince Vi to sell and move to Florida with them .
Annie Rains created a cute little town that makes you want to visit . Thanks Netgalley and the publisher for an Arc for my opinion.

I love starting a new series by Annie Rains because there are several things I know right off the bat. I’m going to get good, believable stories, I’ll discover a unique small town with its own spin on quirky residents, I’ll find secondary characters that will be in the background throughout the series yet will always give a familiar feel to any scene they’re in. But most of all I’m going to find a couple who deserve to find love no matter what life has tossed their way in the past… they just might have to fight against some obstacles (often themselves) on the way to finding their happy ending.

Trisha and her young son, Petey, have left their past behind them when they moved to this lovely small town on the lake. A fresh start in a charming place where no one whispers, at times quite loudly, or bullies her son for the actions of her ex-husband who is now in prison. Becoming the manager of the Somerset Cottages was a life-saving moment, and she adored her new boss, Vi, an older woman who doesn’t think or act her age who gave Trish a second chance. Life would be smooth if it weren’t for one hardened lawyer, Vi’s grandson, who is back in town to try to convince his grandmother to sell a property that it’s obvious she can no longer keep up with. Jake has a gut feeling that Trish is hiding something, and in spite of the sparks between them, and he’ll admit, her cute little boy he’s still here for one reason only… to destroy her second chance, and bring his grandmother closer to the family who can watch over her.

The Summer Cottage gave me everything I expect from this author and opened the door to a new location with brand new people, situations, and community. I fell for little Petey quickly, it’s hard not to. Watching Jake’s transformation from a suspicious, trust-no-one kind of guy into a man who is finally seeing things through his grandmother’s eyes, of how much she loves these cottages and this community, and how loved and needed she is in return. As Jake opens his emotions and begins to trust Trisha we see a new family forming from the chaos of their pasts. Yes, they each have trust issues to overcome but the journey to happiness might have been rocky at times yet was so worth it. I loved Trish and Jake both together and individually, adored little Petey, and cracked up over Vi’s antics. I had fun in this new series and look forward to many enjoyable hours getting lost in the world of Somerset.

*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley. That does not change what I think of this story. It is my choice to leave a review giving my personal opinion about this book.*

#TheSummerCottage:

Annie Rains is someone I would have never known if I didn’t get into the world of Bookstagram. Which is why I feel like it’s a personal mission to tell all my friends that are no in the book blogging scene of her heartwarming tales and amazing characters.

Trisha and Jake were chefs kiss perfect. I loved Trisha’s heart. You know when you can just tell someone is a good damn person? That was Trisha. No boasting, no pompous attitude, just.. love.

Who would I be if I didn’t fall in love with all the other characters? Vi, Peter, Mr. S, my heart! I think this is an amazing start to her new series and I cannot wait to see what Annie Rains thinks of next.

Thank you so much Forever for the gifted copy! The Summer Cottage is out now!

This is a very easy read. The conflict is low and it feels like a lazy afternoon on the lake. Jake and Trisha are a fun couple and Petey definitely steals the show. Perfect for a lazy summer, or any, afternoon.

The Summer Cottage is a brand new series by Annie Rains. This was a great summer romance read. I love the small town atmosphere and characters that Annie Rains creates in the story. Trisha is moving to a new town with her son in tow in hopes of starting over. Little did she know she would be falling in love.

Support this NC author and read this book. I promise you won't be disappointed.

Thank you to Forever, NetGalley and the author for the #gifted copy of the book.

This is the first book in a new series written by Annie Rains and I think its the perfect start! This was a really sweet contemporary romance set in Somerset Lake. Loved the setting! It Had all of those adorable small town vibes complete with friendly towns folk, a beautiful lake and quaint little cottages.

Main character Trisha is charmed by the setting and moves there to help Vi Fletcher manage the cottages when she needs a fresh start for herself and her son. Vi's grandson Jake left the town years ago after a tragic loss, but came back to help out. Him and Trisha have an instant connection but Trisha is worried that the secrets from her past will ruin everything.

I really liked the relationship between the two. I thought Jake was actually a pretty decent guy and I thought that Trisha was a strong character. I also really loved her son Petey who had an adventurous fire cracker spirit! There was also a super sweet dog named Bailey!

I believe that going forward in the series each book will focus on a different couple, so I believe that it's possible for each book to be read as a stand alone. But if you're looking for a new contemporary romance this year, this is a great place to start. Overall, I really liked this one!

A great start to a new series. Trisha and Petey are starting over in Somerset Lake. Jake is coming home again. The story is sweet and a perfect small town romance. The town is charming and the people in the town are welcoming. It's a great introduction to a town for a new series. I look forward to more from the characters we met in this story. Trisha is an inspiring character with facing a horrible situation and finding a new way. Jake is exactly the hero she needed. I love his habit of reading how to books! I received a copy from NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Absolutely loved it.
I found the characters lovable and the story was easy to read. It flows nicely and you get pulled into the story and you don't want to stop reading.
Not the first book I have read by Annie Rains and it won't be the last
Trisha tries to start a new life with her son Petey after her husband does something bad and ends up in prison. But trying to run from your past doesn't always work out the way you want it. Trish finds this out the hard way.
Does Trisha find happiness or does she run again?

This was a solid small-town Annie Rains' novel. I've enjoyed reading the Sweetwater Springs series, so I was excited to see this spinoff. I wasn't familiar with Trisha though since I haven't finished the Sweetwater Springs series yet (3 books left), but it's not necessary to read that series before beginning this one.

Trisha is a single mom raising her elementary-age son. Her ex-husband was a financial planner who stole money from a lot of his clients and he's now serving a 5 year prison sentence. Trisha and her son Petey left their hometown of Sweetwater Springs because Petey was getting bullied about his dad's crimes and everyone thought it was far-fetched that Trisha didn't know her husband was stealing money. I'll be honest, I found it hard to reconcile this with the Sweetwater Springs I know, but I guess there are some bad apples in the bunch who make the rest look bad. Now Trish & Petey are settled in Somerset Lake. Trish has become the property manager of a set of lake cottages in desperate need of repair.

Jake is an attorney who is back in his hometown of Somerset Lake. Oh, and he flies a seaplane when he's back on the lake. He's been sent by his family to convince his grandma Vi to sell the cottages and move to FL with the rest of the family. Only, she doesn't want to move and leave her home, despite having had a stroke. Jake doesn't stay for long when he visits his hometown. His high school sweetheart was killed in an auto accident their senior year and he's had a hard time getting over that heartache, especially when he's around the places they enjoyed together. So like usual, he plans on staying just long enough to do what he's sent there by his family to do.

As you expect, Jake and Trisha hit it off, but they are both hiding secrets - Trisha with her ex-husband's crimes and Jake with his reason for being there (that would put her out of a job and home). Somehow they still manage to fall in love despite all that and despite only knowing each other briefly. It wasn't entirely believable and seemed rush, but I've come to expect that with Ms. Rains.

I loved little Petey. He was utterly adorable and so smart for a kid his age. I also loved that Jake didn't find Petey and his questions annoying, but he loved the kid's curiosity since he too was just like Jake as a kid (and still is - his love of how-to manuals was adorable). And Bailey, the dog was cute too.

The town was cute, the Friday night festival seemed fun and the side characters were nice additions to the book. I look forward to the next book in the series - it looks like Lucy is the heroine. We only got to

Other than a few kisses, that's about all we get in this one regarding intimacy. They never spend the night together or anything like that. This book is about as clean as it can be. For once, I could overlook that since I enjoyed the actual story.

On a side note, the whole financial planner stealing from his clients in Western NC sounded familiar. I know someone from that area who is in prison now for doing the same exact thing, so I'm curious if the author had inspiration from real-life to write that part of the plot.

Annie Rains is one of my favorite authors. Her compelling characters, their stories, and descriptive voice draw me into her stories. Ms. Rains crafts a fabulous story for Trisha Langly and Jake Fletcher. Loved the plot premise- Trisha has been hired by Jake’s grandmother to oversee her rental cottages while Jake’s parents have asked him to convince his grandmother to sell the properties.
Grandmother Vi has asked them to work together to bring the cottages back to life. The chemistry simmered between Jake and Trisha as they worked side by side renovating the cottages, spent time with Trisha’s son Petey and attended community events. The couple’s slow burn romance was perfectly paced- loved reading how their friendship became so much more.
Love Annie Rains’ descriptive voice. I could picture Jake and Trisha sitting on the dock watching the sunset over Somerset Lake. I could hear Petey asking Jake a zillion questions about fishing, camping and flying. Loved the chapter where Trisha attended Tess’s book club. Trisha expected to be part of a book discussion—she left being part of a circle of supportive friends.
The Summer Cottage pulled at my heartstrings because Trisha made a difficult choice to move from Sweetwater Springs to Somerset Lake. She realized that she and Petey needed a fresh start. I loved the themes of honesty, forgiveness and hope in the novel. Family, home and community were important to Trisha and Jake—this made the book a 5 star read for me!
I adored the author’s Sweetwater Springs series. I am glad I joined Trisha and Petey at Somerset Lake! Loved the characters of Vi, Mr. S, Della Rose and Lucy and can’t wait to read more about them!
I highly recommend The Summer Cottage-- It’s a beautifully written small town romance filled with love, family drama and fantastic characters. Kick off your flip flops, grab a glass of wine and settle in for a heartfelt, sweet romance at Somerset Lake!
