Much of the information in this book is fantastic! Kids can really benefit for this book's discussions of what makes a hero and even the psychology behind it. Unfortunately, this book is VERY dense. There are attempts to liven it up with a few text features and different font, but they are severely lacking. Furthermore, the writing style needs to be more conversational and focused. There are parts that feel repetitious without a clear purpose. With some editing and a clearer focus on it's audience, this could be a fantastic book. In it's current state, I certainly will not be purchasing it for my libraries.

I wasn't a fan of this book. In some parts, it feels like the writing is talking down the reader. In others, it feels way over the average child's head. And did we really need a history of the various meanings of the word "hero"? Love the idea of this book, but this one was just not for me.
