I received an advance reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.

Home for a while is a cute illustrated book for children about a little boy who is in foster care and has moved to yet another home. He finds it very hard moving from home to home and gets very frustrated. The Foster carer teaches him (without him realising) how to help calm his anger and let it go.
Every night she asks if she can give him a hug, but he questions this every night - why would she want to hug him when nobody else wants to. Eventually he thaws and enjoys his time there realising he has found someone who cares for him and wants to help him and love him for being him.
This book is fantastic and would make a great resource for a foster carer and child and even as a school resource.

There is many uneasy emotions when a child is placed in foster care. One of them being am I wanted.
What if I do something wrong? Calvin has been placed in a home and his wise foster parent helps him sort out all those feelings. Even the feelings that Calvin is unware of. She directs him to breathe and know that he is valuable.

Good book for foster parents to help their foster children adjust. Makes way for conversation and understanding. Highly recommend.

A special thank you to Magination Press and Netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an electronic copy to read and review.

This is a great book to have on hand for all children, but specifically for children who might be living in temporary homes. It validates feelings and helps them realize how lovable they truly are.

What a wonderful story about a kid who's in foster care. He is so full of emotion that he doesn't quite know how to get it out. But his foster mom is patient, waiting for just the right moment to give him a hug. Written with wonderful repetition and beautiful lyrical language.

I think this book should be given to anyone who is a foster parent. The kids who are in the system have so many struggles, but this book would be great at giving them the message that they are home for a while and are wanted where they are. i think a lot of kids would be able to relate to this book.

Calvin is a sweet young boy who is moving in with Maggie, his new foster mom. Calvin feels unwanted and doesn’t understand why he is moving into a new home. He has some behavioral issues as navigates his new living environment. Maggie gently helps him calm his nerves and his breathing so that he can see that he is special and loved in his temporary home. This book would be perfect to share with children who are in the foster care system. It’s also a good resource to share with parents to help foster care to their children. It would also work for teachers to help share with students to show the diversity of families and explain how sometimes children have to live in a temporary housing situation. This is also a great book to share with children who are having emotional difficulties as it shows ways to help calm down and work through a crisis situation.

Awwww, I loves this! Diversity and unconditional love! There are so few books about the foster care system and this is a welcome, beautifully illustrated addition!

I LOVED IT! As a social worker myself I see children struggle with the same things Calvin did and I believe this book would be very beneficial for children growing up in the foster care system. Often these children are misunderstood and judged when in reality they just need patience and lots of love.

This was a really important book about foster care and would be a great resource for foster parents and other care providers.

This story will tug at your heart strings. A story about a little boy in temporary care who is learning to deal with all his big feelings and his sweet caregiver that is there to guide him in doing so. I wished I had had a physical copy so I could hug the book when I was finished.

I didn't know a children's book could make me teary eyed but this one did. It's the sweet story of a child in foster care and realizing how much he is wanted. Representation of every person is important and this could help children understand and relate to their situation.

I am overjoyed to find that this book exists. It is so rare to find a book about foster care and this book does it with poise while also going over calming strategies and very real emotions that all children, but especially those in the foster care system, may feel.

This is a wonderful short book about a child coming into foster care. He is having a hard time in many different ways. He has a hard time connecting with his foster mother and doesn't understand why he isn't at home. He misses home and acts out in different ways b/c he just doesn't understand what is going on.

Thank you netgalley for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Interesting storybook about a young boy who stays with a foster mom and learns that she likes him for who he is. She calms his angry outburst and hr decides he is home. A little sad at the end when he says it's his home for a little while.

Thanks to American Psychological Association + Magination Press for the e-review copy (via NetGalley) of "Home for a While" by Lauren Kerstein, illustrated by Natalia Moore.

Ugh, equally parts heart warming and heart breaking knowing that "Home for a While" is the type of book so many kids need as they navigate their own feelings in homes that are only for a while.
This is a story meant for caregivers (and teachers and social workers and those supporting children in foster care) as much as it is for the children themselves.

I highly recommend this for the calming influence, the comforting words, and the gentle reminders.

This is a bittersweet book about a child going to a new foster home. While he expresses his emotions in unhealthy ways, his foster mom is patient and helpful. This is a good book for children who may be going into the foster situation or have friends who are.

This is a children's book all about a little boy that is in foster care going to a new home. I read this book to my twin boys. I have been thinking about doing foster care after the world gets back to normal. I have to say this is a cute book, and it shows the kids that it is ok not to feel like it is home at first. It also shows them away to calm down by breathing through their problems. I really liked this book. I was kindly provided an e-copy of this book by the publisher (Magination Press) or author (Lauren Kerstein) via NetGalley, so I can give honest review about how I feel about this book. I want to send a big Thank you to them for that.
