There was so much going on in The Redwood Revenger, and Johannes Johns only kicks it up a notch with book two - Red Bush continues the story and expands it, both in the future and in the past.

Having discovered the diaries of her pirate queen ancestor, Olivia is finally able to discover the history of a family she hasn't always felt connected to. And the reader gets to join her, both on the journey of discover through her foremother's writing, and as she continues to navigate the hazards more immediate to her in 2043 - there's a certain sock monkey that's still out there, after all.

Honestly, while my favourite part of this series is the numerous descriptions of food - the author really has a talent for describing unusual but tantalising dishes - there's so much here to like. There's almost a cosy vibe to it in parts, but that doesn't stop it from being high stakes - quite the opposite, as all that cosiness being threatened makes me even more determined that nothing should ever happen to it. I'm excited to see what's coming in book 3!

I really enjoyed this series, I had accidentally read the third book first, but enjoyed it so much that I actually purchased the first two. I had enjoyed reading this part of the series and getting through these characters.
