This is a wonderful book for a classroom read or to have in your home library. A dragon comes to play and everyone shows the dragon the correct way to act. To not mess around with things but to play nicely. Also, the dragon does everything that the children do.

A lovely picture book to remind small children of manners and of being grateful. As a parent, I loved the message. The pictures are adorable, all in curves, and dragons are usually a hit. But for some reason my kids weren't too much into it. It's obviously subjective, but they haven't asked for that story again and didn't want it when I suggested it.

Thanks to American Psychological Association + Magination Press for the review copy (via NetGalley) of "When a Dragon Comes to Stay" by Caryl Hart, illustrated by Rosalind Beardshaw.

Ahhh the super sweet illustrations, the poetic cadence of the words, and the gentle reminders about behavior expectations in different situations. "When a Dragon Comes to Stay" is super reminiscent of the "How Do Dinosaurs..." series, but much calmer and gentler. A perfect addition to any library.

This is a really cute book with adorable illustrations that is good to encourage children to behave through the character of a dragon. The little dragon in the story is a very good dragon which I can understand would be really useful for parents working on behaviour and a great way to encourage children to make good choices. However, as a story it was a bit too preachy for my liking, not a lot happened and it wasn’t very entertaining. I love a rhyming book, and the ending was super cute but felt like it was trying to hard to get a child to follow rules, if it included a bit more humour like the ending and was a bit more light hearted I think I would have really made it much more exciting and engaging. The illustrations were adorable though, and I kind of want my own little baby dragon now too.

Manners and behavior are modeled in a fun way using a dragon in this adorable book. Toddlers will have no trouble grasping the concepts presented. Recommended!

The dragon in this story is appealing looking and friendly. S/he is here to show children behaviors that the author clearly hopes that children will also practice. The dragon’s day is much like a child’s; there are games, meals, getting ready for bed and more. The text rhymes and has a repetitive refrain to get children involved in the story.

One quibble with the book: on one page the author observes that a dragon might turn “bad.” I think that another term might have been preferable. When children melt down, I don’t think that “bad” is the best word to use. Other choices are preferable.

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this title. All opinions are my own.

Short-tempered and tantrums are very common in kids. And handling it with anger will worsen the situation. It requires calmness and an example-driven approach to make them understand their tantrums.

The book "When a Dragon Comes to Stay" by Caryl Hart shows a unique approach. The author has shown Dragon as an ideal friend of kids. Throughout the book, the author shows how this ideal character behaves in different situations.

I liked the approach and message delivered by the book.

This is an adorable book showing children proper manners and bedtime routines. The part about what happens if dragons get overtired or sad is especially cute. The pictures and rhyming are engaging.

I got this on Netgalley in exchange for an honest review!

I really enjoyed this! It's fun, colourful and I loved the verse (and how easy and effortless the rhymes read). Overall a really good picture book that highlights good behaviour, and shows how to deal with some negative ones.

I read this book with my three year old daughter and she loved it!

As I mum I thought that it was excellent, it was well written, I loved the rhyming nature and the illustrations were just perfect.

It is one of the best children's books that I have read with Ava this year and pitched perfect for her age - and it one I am happy to read to her again - she asked for me to read it to her again as soon as it was finished so that shows what a massive hit the book really was.

It is 5 stars from me for this one - we can't wait to read it again tomorrow night at bedtime - very highly recommended!!

I received this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Why is it when you replace any character with dragons, the story just becomes instantly cuter?

The illustrations were colourful and cute, the storyline very easy to follow and the message is simple- dragons do make the best houseguests. They play fair, they have manners, they're clean and give great snuggles.. My daughter asked after finishing this story, " why are there no dragons visiting me? "

Love this little storybook which tells kids about little good habits and some good behaviour that we want to imbibe in kids when they eat, play; how to behave with others and what to do when it's time to go to bed.

I love the illustrations. I love the simple yet the subtle artstyle which makes the reading out aloud quite fun!

Thank you publisher and the authors for the book.

This story came to us attached the perfect time. I have a 3-year-old who could learn a lot from this book. Wink, wink. This cute story helps teach a child how to behave, with respect and calm behaviors at dinner, play and bedtime. It's a cute story with some cute rhymes and charming art. Hopefully it will inspire good behavior in our house.
