This is a really terrific cookbook for the youngest cooks and has many recipes that require little or no cooking. The pages were well laid out, had clear directions, and colorful pictures. This will be a fun one to have in my school library,

A great cookbook for kids! Each recipe has a brightly colored picture so the young chef will know exactly what the finished product will look like. Easy to follow instructions, diverse recipes, and a very well-laid recipe on each page. Peppered with gardening for a little extra fun!

STORYLINE: DK has published yet another outstanding book for children! This one is a cookbook. It is divided into three parts, basically: a section on how the book works with the rules and guidelines for kitchen safety and hygiene; the recipe and gardening section that includes breakfast, soups and salads, entrees, and desserts; and a glossary and index section. So, if the reader wants all about strawberries, the index is the place to start!

TEXT and ILLUSTRATIONS: The pages are simplistic and very colorful! Readers will no doubt feel confident trying every single recipe. The cookbook gets a purple ribbon in my view as it starts off with no-bake granola, overnight oatmeal, and smoothies – all very popular with children! How to grow simple fruits and veggies will excite readers with a green thumb. I especially like the “how to grow” your own strawberries. The recipes are easy to follow for children and adults. I especially like the mini trifles and the apple doughnuts!

PROS:
*The recipes are packed with fiber, protein, and vitamins!
*There are snacks, breakfasts, meals, and drinks.
*The book teaches independence.
*Safety and hygiene are emphasized.

CONS:
*Party ideas? Perhaps, this will be Volume Two?

HOW BEST ENJOYED: This is best enjoyed as an adult and child working side by side.

IN CLOSING : This book focuses on healthy eating and living. Instead of candy, healthy fruits and carb-conscious foods are featured.

The pictures are nice, but honestly, I don't see a lot here that are "kid friendly." I suppose some children really do eat vegetables, but...still. I wish this had more simple "recipes" like pb & banana, things like that. Instead ,these recipes are very vegetable heavy. That said, as an adult I do think thy'd taste good, and I'm going to give some a try!

This is a great cookbook for kids! No heat is required so kids can independently do these recipes with minimal assistance and supervision. The instructions are easy to understand and each page contains beautiful, real-life photos. Even if you don't plan on making anything it's fun just to flip through these eye-catching pages. I love that in the beginning before you get started there are pictures of all tools as well as gardening equipment labeled (they even show you how to plant your own vegetable, herb or fruit garden). They also show you pictures of cooking techniques. For example - how to cut using the bridge or claw technique, the correct way to separate egg yolks and whites, what folding is, how to zest properly, and how to crush garlic.

The recipes start off with a list of all kitchen tools needed as well as the ingredients. Then they show a step by step guide with safety tip reminders next to the finished product. They also advise how long to keep in the refrigerator, if you need to wait a certain amount of minutes before you can eat it, or if it's best to eat it right away.

I think it would be nice for the book to have alternative options to use if you don't have a certain kitchen tool. For example, if you do not have a mortar and pestle, is there another kitchen tool that can be used instead. Otherwise, I would recommend this book to kids who have an interest in cooking/baking or to an adult who don't know their way around a kitchen.

Thank you Netgalley and DK Publishing for the opportunity to read this book.

A good book to introduce kids to cooking, cooking utensils, and cooking techniques they will use in the kitchen. The book has very bright and colorful pictures that I think will hold the attention of kids using it. The recipes are easy to follow and step- by -step instruction is good, but I found some of the ingredients may be too a little too sophisticated for some kids tastes, but still a book, I would recommend for a child with a real interest in cooking.

Book review
Thank you Netgalley and DK Children for this ARC in exchange for my review.

What a great book for kids learning how to cook. The No-Cook Cookbook consists of oven- and stove-free recipes that are produce-centered and kid-friendly. Even more unique is that the book includes sections on how to grow some of the fruits and vegetables used in the recipes, a great way to teach kids where their food comes from and help them start their own garden. The illustrations are bright and eye-catching, the directions are easy to follow, and the no-cook aspect makes the recipes more approachable. While my toddler is still too young to cook any of these recipes, I will plan on keeping this cookbook on my shelf for future use....and maybe make some of the recipes myself in the meantime.

Really useful book for the whole family. The no-cook part is great as it limits the chance of young children getting burned accidentally. Plus it’s a nice way to cook during warmer weather or just for a change of pace. The addition of gardening fits in nicely with having a healthier lifestyle.
I would recommend that a child in 4th grade or higher would enjoy making something I’m this book independently and that parents make sure that they some basic knowledge about cooking or growing plants beforehand. The photos and graphics are superb and will grab the readers’ attention. This is so much more than just a cookbook. It’s a great introduction to cooking and eating healthy.

Beautiful food and stunning colours will draw children and adults alike to this cookbook. It begins with the usual equipment needed, how to use the book, techniques etc and then launches into the recipes. Basic recipes include alternative recipes to jazz things up. The gardening how tos coincide with recipes that use the fruits of your labour.
A fun, interesting and alternative look at cooking with kids.

This was such a fun cookbook! I have a little 6 year old chef at home that has been cooking with me since she was about 2 years old. We frequently attend Mommy and Me cooking classes so she's well versed in helping in the kitchen but this book was so approachable and easy for her to take a little more of a lead on the recipes that we tried together. We loved the bright pictures and the clear instructions on every page. The only thing we wished could be different was we wanted a larger font to be used. Anyway, I highly recommend this book to any family with a little chef that is itching for more autonomy in the kitchen. I cannot wait to get through more of the fun recipes together.

No Cook Cookbook is a great book for an adventurous kid who likes to learn new things. The pages are colorful and easy to follow, there are great tips (including safety tips) and some yummy looking recipes. I will say for some kids the recipes might be pushing the boundaries of what is normal, but I still think there is one or two recipes that a picky kid might be willing to try. The book also talks about gardening and how to utilize the things grown in your garden.
Five stars for a fun first cookbook. Thank you to NetGalley and DK Children for the ARC. This was an honest review.

This book shows you how to do the little things like using a grater, removing avocado pits, and how to handle a sharp knife. Each recipe give the names of tools needed, ingredients, and an easy step by step recipe. This book also shows you how to grow your own vegetables. There is even a glossary of words that you use when using a recipe. This would be such a good book for a child that wants to learn to cook.

I wanted to read through this book in the hopes that it would give me some ideas of recipes that I could do with my daughter to help her grow her skills in the kitchen. The images were cute and the instructions for the recipes were easy to understand. I really liked the beginning of the book introducing safety in the kitchen and the different tools that would be used in the book. There are a few recipes that I would like to try for the adults in my house. However, many of the recipes were not foods that my child was interested in trying out. Further, adding the “gardening” instructions in the middle of the book seemed distracting. A separate section for “gardening” with the instructions for the item being grown and then listing recipes that used that fruit/vegetable would have been nice. I also would have liked to have seen some kind of separation between food types in the book. It seems a little haphazardly put together when it comes to the recipe organization.

This book was received as an ARC from DK - DK Children in exchange for an honest review. Opinions and thoughts expressed in this review are completely my own.

I could not be more pleased with the recipes in this book. They are so creative and kid friendly and my favorite part were the logos and symbols used for warning children of sharp tools and how to properly use them. The design and color scheme used were very appealing to the eyes of a child and of course no cookbook is complete without photos of the final products. Each of the recipes featured look so delicious and so fun for kids to prepare with their parents. I know a handful of families will be excited for this book release.

We will consider adding this title to our JTX Non-Fiction collection at our library. That is why we give this book 5 stars.
