I have a children and they are just starting to explore gender boundaries. I loved listening to this book to them! They have been asked to be ringbearers this summer and I hope they have as much fun as Julian and Marisol, flower crown exchanging and all. I love that this book presents the experience of children so authentically.

Julian and his abuela are back in this second installment by Jessica Love. The story is as cute as I expected and the illustrations were lovely and lively.

I listened to the audiobook performed by Avi Roque (who also narrated Julian Is a Mermaid and Aiden Thomas’s Cemetery Boys) and enjoyed it, but the book needs Love’s illustrations in order for it to truly come to life.

A perfect narration to a thoughtful, inclusive, and needed picture book. The audiobook perfectly complements Jessica Love's book and left me wanting to read Julian's next adventure.

A beautiful follow up to Julian Is A Mermaid and another instant favorite. The illustrations are as vibrant as prior books and the themes we loved from JIAM return.

My four year old absolutely loves Julián is a Mermaid by Jessica Love. He often asks for the book just to flip through the gorgeous illustrations by himself. I was super excited to check out the audiobook of the next book in the series, Julián at the Wedding. (Thanks to NetGalley and Candlewick Press for the listen!) In this new story, which just came out October 2020, Julián and his abuela get dressed up and go to a wedding. Julián makes new friends and makes some mischief, as well! It’s a fun story full of great imagery and representation. My four year old was not so into the audio and I think the gorgeous illustrations of these stories really add a huge amount so we missed that aspect only listening to the audio. This would still make a great listen perhaps for older kids or perfect to pair with the picture book!

I wanted to thank NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to review this audio in turn for my honest opinion.

Thank you for the liveliness of this book and the correct pronunciation of the words in Spanish. Considering the lack of the illustration, the sounds/song in the background helps you to visualize you are with them at the party.

It's too short but very well done.

Julian at the Wedding is another beautiful tribute to the character of Julian that has taken the world by storm. I loved that we get to see our beloved character again. The illustrations and soft and beautiful. Another win for the Julian series. I cannot wait to see more.

I loved the audiobook for Julián at the Wedding! When I turned it on I automatically recognized the narrator as the narrator of the audiobook of Cemetery Boys by Aiden Thomas (which I listened to from start to finish) and got very excited. As a person with a cognitive disability, who avidly listens to audiobooks, a narrator can make or break the audiobook.

This narrator’s performance was flawless, yet again. I had no critiques on that. I also loved the added music that played in the background sometimes. It was a nice touch.

Overall, I throughly enjoyed the quick read. I found it easy to understand and I think it’s something kids will easily gravitate towards, especially with the music and the amazing narrator.

Thank you Netgalley and publishers for allowing me to read Jessica Love’s Julián at the Wedding audiobook in exchange for an honest review!

Julian is in a wedding party-- and it's an LGBTQIA+ wedding! This follow-up to Julian Is a Mermaid is adorable, and I just wish I could have seen the pictures (audiobook listened to). Because it is read, and you don't get the full story that is a picture book, it feels a little disjointed / it jumps around a bit, but if you read it as oppose to just listen to it, I think it'll be fine.

Diverse reads:
- Julian is Latinx.
- The couple getting married is LGBTQIA+.

Julián at the Wedding is such a beautiful audiobook. The music and the narrator's cadence and style really help to bring it to life. The stories that Jessica Love tell are so important for our kids on so many different levels of representation. I do think that part of the magic of Julián is the gorgeous illustrations, which of course are absent when you listen. Perhaps the audio won't convey quite as lively a story as the picture book does, but I think that it would make an excellent companion, either to read simultaneously or to keep a child engaged with the book (if they have already read the physical copy) even if it isn't right in front of them.

This was a really delightful listen! Thank you so much to NetGalley and the publisher for this copy.

I listened to the audio version of this book after reading Julian is a Mermaid. The audio is 7:17, so it's quite short, which I expected based on how short the prior book was. The audiobook was well narrated, like someone reading the book and describing what was happening at the same time. I really enjoyed the beautiful artwork in the first book, so I think this audio would be a good companion to the picture book. I'm not sure that it stands alone as well, but it can if the young listener will listen for about 7 minutes. I would consider getting the audio and physical/ebook for a young reader.

I love Julian is a Mermaid and recommend it often in our library. I'm looking forward to recommending Julian at the Wedding. The light music in the background is a lovely addition to the narration. I feel this audio is best paired with the picture book for children to get the most out of listening.

Julian at the Wedding by Jessica Love and narrated by Avi Roque was my introduction to audiobooks, and also my first meeting of Julian. What a beautiful welcome it was.

Julian and his abuela are attending a wedding and Julian finds himself carrying out a very important role in the celebrations. When he meets a new friend in Marisol, the pair will discover the true magic of friendship.

I very much enjoyed listening to this lovely story, and felt that it was enhanced further by musical accompaniment, as well as the melodic voice of the narrator. I look forward to reuniting with Julian again in the future.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for the opportunity to listen to this audiobook.

So glad to see Julián come to life again in this wonderful new story about love and being true to oneself. The kids and I were provided the audiobook version by Dreamscape Media to review in exchange for a honest review and the honest truth is, we absolute loved this story. Just like in the original book, Julián Is a Mermaid, we find him attending another celebration with his Abuela, but this time it is to celebrate the wedding of two brides. I loved seeing queer people of color being represented. Queer literature has come a long way but still has a ways to go when it comes to representing queer people in books for children. The narration by Avi Roque was perfect. The kids and I look forward to Julián’s next adventure. This would be a great holiday gift for any little one in your life!
