Extremely overrated book.
I dont understand the hype.
Not one character was likeable or had any redeeming qualities.

I thought I had written a review for this title, but alas, my profile says I have not.

My review is specifically for the narration on the sudiobook, read by Sean Astin. I just didn't care for it. I feel like the narrator just simply read the text, where as so many narrators these days more act out the scenes unfolding in the books. And since I am very familiar with this story in particular, I was very let down.

The Great Gatsby is one of my favorite classics. This is such a quick listen. This was a classic I never got to in High School but I have now as an adult and I love it! Daisy is a true gift to the readers!! If this classic has been on your TBR it’s time to finally check it off your list!! I highly recommend this one.

With the Great Gatsby now available for public domain we are seeing quite a bit of it wether that be in audio or physical format. I was on the fence about this audiobook format. I felt the narrator could have used more enthusiasm and spark or zest for the content.

Having already read this book in high school and doing the typical projects and papers and presentations on themes, I was ready for this audiobook to be another bland recitation of the source material.

Sean Astin does. not. disappoint. My thoughts on the book here are rather pointless, considering it's THE GREAT GATSBY, but this audiobook was a delight to listen to.

This classic was made even better by being narrated by the great actor Sean Astin! Still one of my favorite books of all time. This was incredibly enjoyable.

I read this book years ago and loved it. It's a classic!
Sean Astin was a perfect narrator! I will definitely listen to more books he narrates!

Book was archived before I could read/listen to it. It is still used in high school English classes.

Truthfully, this is one of my favorite books, and it has been for nearly 10 years, so this review is purely based on the narration. While I do think Astin's reading was adequate, I do think at times it lacked the emotion I expected Nick to have, especially towards the end of the novel. I didn't expect him to create different voices for the characters, as this all is technically from Nick's perspective, but I did think he could have done a little bit more for people who have no read the book before and aren't as familiar with the individual characters. Overall this was just fine, not good nor bad.

I recently listened to the Jake Gyllenhaal reading of the Great Gatsby. It was good and so is the Sean Astin reading. It is interesting how two completely different voices let me pick up difference nuances in this book. The Gyllenhaal version is a bit high brow. The Astin version is more of the working man’s voice. Since high school, the Great Gatsby is always on my top ten. To me it is a timeless story. The tale of old money and new money highlighting inbred greed and entitlement likely still rings true today. I love this story and recommend it highly.

The story of the Great Gatsby is a classic and a story I will go back to again and again. The author made listening to the story engaging and fun. An easy listen when you need a good classic.

This review pertains specifically to the narration of this audiobook, and not so much on the actual story.
I had not read this since it was assigned to me as a high school sophomore, and having enjoyed it back then and following the polarizing 2013 movie adaptation, I'd been wanting to revisit The Great Gatsby for quite a few years. I have been increasingly consuming more and more books in eAudiobook format, and was very excited when I saw this version. Most of the versions I had come across in the past were much older, arguably before audiobooks became of a higher quality, and upon listening to the samples promptly decided against them.
Sean Astin does a fantastic job in capturing the first person narration of Nick Carraway; I always look for this in audiobooks because it makes me feel more immersed and invested in the story when it feels like the narrator's voice fits the character seamlessly.
Overall a great audiobook production, and would highly recommend it.

Thank you NetGalley for the ARC.

Meh... that’s my review in a word.
remember reading this is school, then again a few years ago just before I was going to teach it to a class of 10th or 11th grade students, but I wanted to do a refresher... and listen to it this time to see if I caught anything new.
Alas, I was a little disappointed. I still like the story, and was excited to know that Sean Astin was the reader (why are they called “narrators” - they aren’t narrating, they’re reading directly from a text ... in this case, reading what a narrator is “saying”... anyway, I digress). But, Astin just didn’t do it for me. His voice was flat and boring and it felt like he was an uninspired professor reading select pieces to a bored class. It’s not a horrible audiobook, but it wasn’t great - or even very good - , either.
The audiobook isn’t super long, so I could see using it for some of my lower level or more hesitant and reluctant readers, but ... I think I’d rather search for another version, to be honest.

“So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.”

The first time that I read The Great Gatsby, was back during my junior year of high school. I remember reading the book and falling utterly in love with it due to its beautiful language and stunning imagery. The book stayed with me and became my favorite required high school read as well as my overall favorite classic.

Flash forward to present day February 2021, I listened to the new Dreamscape Media audiobook version of The Great Gatsby and found myself feeling like a first time Gatsby reader. I attribute this feat to the narrator, the extremely talented Sean Astin. He was absolutely incredible and made the listening experience phenomenal! Astin transports you completely into Fitzgerald’s extravagant world of Gatsby and makes everything so vivid! It was such an addicting listen - I managed to finish 85% of it in one day because of how riveting it was! Astin’s narration was truly storytelling at its finest.

I highly recommend giving this new version of Gatsby a listen. The audiobook will sweep you away and remind you why the tale is such a classic.

A big thank you to Dreamscape Media and NetGalley for the copy of this audiobook

Third time I've read Gatsby, the first in audiobook. Great narration, although the different "character voices" he does aren't that interesting. What he does do well is let the prose breathe. This book has horrible characters and great writing, and this version lets us vividly experience both.

As a thank you to @dreamscape_media and @netgalley I’m reviewing this audiobook of #fscottfitzgerald 1925 classic “The Great Gatsby”. Narrated by Sean Astin “The Great Gatsby” is told through Astin’s style of speech one that is comfortable to listen to and understandably relatable. His speech was clear, direct, and provided F. Scott Fitzgerald’s timeless characters with the pathos needed to express their story. Out of five stars I give this audiobook 5 out of 5 stars. As for Its novel originally when reading it some time ago gave this novel 3 out of five. Now after listening to the audiobook version will give this novel 4 out of 5 stars on goodreads.
