I did not finish this audio. The narration was very good but I did not realize it was not the first book in the series when I selected to read it, so I want to start with book 1 and go forward.

Not much happens in the small town of McGill, but one of the towns young girls is found roughed up, and all fingers point to the community hooligans, The Lone Wolfpack. It doesn’t stop there. The leader of the pack is found dead in an old abandoned hotel. With most of the community already in high dislike of the guy, trying to narrow down the suspect becomes quite the challenge.

This book was very entertaining to say the least! If I had my way, they would make this a mini series! I love the characters in this book, especially Stella, the main character. I would love to have her as my own grandmother. This was a quick and easy book to read. I will be going back and reading the first two books in this series. If you like entertaining southern cozy mysteries, then this will be right up your alley! I rate this ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

I love all of Ms. McKevett’s books with Savannah and Granny Reid.
I have read everyone one of their books and this one doesn’t disappoint! Great mystery, one you can’t put down. If you’re a Savannah Reid fan, this shows you how she learned so much from her Granny to solve mysteries. A wonderful read.

Murder at Mabel's Motel is the third book in the Granny Reid series. Anyone familiar with the Savannah Reid series will remember Granny Reid. I loved this book, and I'll definitely go back and begin with Book One.

Granny is on a real date with the local sheriff when a young lady is raped behind her father's gas station. The rapist seems to be the leader of a local neo-nazi group. As the sheriff investigates, Granny spends her spare time assisting.

The ending will surprise you, but you'll have to read the story to find out! I would highly recommend this title to anyone who loves cozy mysteries.

Murder at Mabel's Motel by G.A. McKevett was a mixed read/listen for me. I really liked the story at first, I was pulled in to the story quickly and was intrigued by the mystery that was taking over this town. Then the story slowed down for me, there were so many characters I was having trouble keeping up with them and remembering who was who and how they were all connected. Through a little bit of research I realized that this was the third book in the series and I have not read the first two books, so I was a bit behind in knowing who all of these characters were, since most of them had already been established. I really did like this story, it was just a bit slower moving than I would have liked.

This is the first book that I've read in this series and it was more than a cozy mystery! Of course, this had the requisite murder, the little old lady, the quirky neighbors, and the small town.

But the sheriff who was looking into the murder was also quite fond of the little old grandma. And little old lady wasn't running a chocolate shop or coffee bar, she was raising seven soon-to-be eight grandchildren. I like that this older woman had friends, a rich inner life, troubles (her no account son and father of all those kids) and even a little crush.

The murder turned out to be very surprising and shocking and full of a lot more pathos and history than the "normal" cozy mystery. I normally give cozy mysteries 3 stars because they "do the job". They make me cozy, they give me a break between more difficult reading, and the like. I'm giving this 4 stars and the only reason why it doesn't get 5 is because the beginning was a little slow at getting my attention.

I listened on audio and the narrator's southern granny voice grated a bit. Sometimes it seemed like the narrator was British and would slip into that accent. Her voice for other characters sounded a little cartoonish as well. Oddly enough she got the male sherriff down pretty well!

I requested this book, not realizing it was the third book in a series. I don't think you NEED to read the first two, but if you want to get to know the characters a little more beforehand, I suggest it.

This is a cozy mystery book. I listened to the audiobook and the narration was amazing! This book follows Stella Reid who has seven grandchildren. Stella is having dinner with Sheriff Gilford, when he is interrupted for an attack that happened at the local gas station.

Murder at Mabel's Motel is the third book in a Granny Reid Mystery Series. I have not the first two but had no issues following this story. The book is a cozy mystery set 1980th in a southern town. Granny Reid (Stella) is a very cute and likable character. When a local Hispanic woman is attacked, Sheriff Gilford knows exactly where to look. This story deals with serious issues including the Holocaust and Nazi including murder.

Murder at Mabel's Motel by G. A. McKevett is an enjoyable cozy listen. I really enjoyed the characters the author wrote and found the descriptions to be vivid. This book is both a standalone listen and part of a series. Stella Reid is a Granny who is unparalleled. This listen was a great escape. Thank you #NetGalley for this great listen.

This was very different from most cozies I read. I've not read one yet that the sheriff was so willing to give all information to the sleuther. There wasn't a lot of action, but the love between the grandmother and her grandchildren made up for it.

This was such a fun cozy mystery! The characters were such a blast to read about. The town was fun.. this was just an all around fun book. If you enjoy cozies with older characters then I highly recommend checking this one out!

Murder at Mabel's Motel is the third book in the A Granny Reid Mystery series by G. A. McKevett. I hadn't read the previous books, but this worked great as a standalone novel.

Set in the 1980s in small town Georgia, we follow Steel "Granny" Reid, who is raising her 7 grandchildren. I loved the throwback to the 80s with the use of pay phones and southern manners!

This was a great cozy-mystery (& the police are actually appreciative of the help!) was great suspense. The characters were so interesting! I don't usually read cozy-mysteries with older main heroines and I truly enjoyed this one! The mystery was great and I never would have guessed who the killer was! What an incredible twist!

The narration by Mil Nicholson was absolute perfection! Each character took on a life on its own and was incredible!!!

I definitely recommend this book! I look forward to reading the other books in the series!

I just love these Granny Reid mysteries, even more than the ones that focus on her grown granddaughter. Perhaps because they are set in the 1980s, as opposed to current day. But also, I love the character of Stella (Granny) Reid, strong, feisty, and clever. While caring for her seven grandchildren, she also assists the small town sheriff in solving the case of an assaulted young woman. She and the sheriff, who both have lost their mates, are becoming closer and this adds another element to the story. The culprit in the assault is a young man who is a neo-Nazi. This brings up lots of bad feelings in the small town, since the woman assaulted was Hispanic. The plot of this story is very well constructed and leaves you wondering which of several plausible suspects killed the young man in a very unusual manner. There's also some humor, particularly in the antics of the children and with the character of the lazy deputy. I enjoyed the narration, except that for the father of the Hispanic woman. The narrator makes him sound more Irish than Hispanic.

It took me a while to get used to all of the characters and the voices the narrator (Mil Nicholson) had assigned to each person, but once I did, the book was fun.

A quick, and easy cozy mystery, that takes place in the 1980's and uses old technology to solve the murder.

The third installment in the Granny Reid cozy mystery series, Murder at Maybels’s Motel by G.A. McKevett, was a quick read and can be easily understood by those who are unfamiliar with the first two books.

Set in the 1980s in a rural southern town, the fifty-something grandmother to seven finds herself in the middle of a puzzling murder mystery tied to a hate crime. Details like Cabbage Patch Dolls, phone booths, and Cindy Lauper fans help create a believable backdrop for the storyline. In addition to the locale, the likable matriarch’s relationships add to the credibility of the narrative. Her possible romantic interest, her nosy and dependable best friend, and all of her grandchildren give depth to the slowly unfolding plot. Readers that enjoy nods to historical events will not be disappointed by this book.

Despite this title being the third book of The Granny Reid Murder Mystery Series (a spin-off of the Savannah Reid Mystery Series), Murder at Mabel’s Motel is my first experience with G.A. McKevett’s work.

I loved that the series follows a busy grandmother raising her grandchildren in small-town Georgia in the 1980s - it felt so unique. Murder at Mabel’s Motel was a fun mystery, with an enjoyable narrator, likeable/quirky characters, and I felt like it handled the more serious issues (like sexual assault and racism) very well. My personal favorite thing about it? It didn’t just jump into the murder but included other issues and crimes in the beginning for you to better get an understanding of the characters.

The drawbacks of the book (for me) were that I did feel like I was really iffy about the age range of the main character (this might have been set-up in a previous book) and even though most mysteries and cozy mysteries can be pretty lax about what would realistically happen if citizens were nosing around this much in a real investigation, this book in particular made continuously think “violation!” “chain of command!” especially in times like when the Sheriff calls out the Coroner for letting a civilian see a body…..the same body that he lets the main character see….multiple times.

Overall, I did enjoy the audio version of Murder at Mabel’s Motel and am really interested in reading more by McKevett. Thank you NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for an ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I’m sure this is many peoples idea of a sweet cozy mystery but this book started by rubbing me the wrong way. It was a perfectly fine book just not the series for me. I am grateful to NetGalley for letting me read this. I hope others enjoy it... just not for me.

When Billy Sonner is found dead. We join Stella (granny) and the sheriff ( granny’s romantic interest) on one one wild race to find out what really happened. To find out what really happened to their town leader. Only Sheriff and Stella can unmask the truth with what they witnessed.
I absolutely just loved the story from granny’s POV. There is some romance in the story which only added to the quirkness. Cannot wait for the next one!
